Comparative analyses of nineteenth-century sketches
A new wave of scholarship has emerged in recent years, which examines nineteenth-century sketches (sometimes referred to as “panoramic literature”) from a transnational perspective. The present international conference seeks to continue this comparative reflection by placing the spotlight on the comparative analysis of texts and images of specific types and by tracing how these representations vary across sketches from different places, media and editorial contexts.

With this in mind, of particular interest for us in the Fourth International Conference of the Transfopress network if the global circulation of media culture at a time when print communication was becoming a mass phenomenon in the 19th and 20th century.

After the success of the first initiative in Dijon (2014), The Progect is organizing its second international conference on the 25th, 26th and 27th May 2016 in Edinburgh, UK. For this second event we encourage researchers to present papers that develop an interdisciplinary approach to progressive rock across three fields: musicology, sociology and media studies. The Comic Art Working Group, founded in 1984 by John A. Lent, is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. As part of that occasion, the group hopes to have a full program of papers for the 2015 IAMCR conference in Montreal. Papers on any aspect of comic art are requested, such as political, advertising, or gag cartoons, newspaper strips, comic books, graphic novels, humor /cartoon periodicals, animation, and caricature.

Military Journalism in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
Journal of Power Institutions in Post-Soviet Societies, Issue 16 - Spring 2014
In the sociology of media, the question of military journalism occupies a special place as one carrying significant political and institutional-specific implications. This is particularly obvious in the case of the USSR, where censorship, ideological challenges related to conflicts, and inaccessibility of the army have hindered attempts to gain knowledge of the production process regarding news and information surrounding the military. Since the fall of the USSR, Russian media space has experienced an opening and a liberalization applicable to military journalism. The old Soviet army newspapers have continued to exist (Krasnaia Zvezda, for example) while civil titles dedicated to military topics have appeared (for instance, the military supplement Nezavisimoe Voennoe Obozrenie of the daily newspaper Nezavisimaia Gazeta). At the same time, new independent media have gravitated toward military topics, fed by specialized civil correspondents. This issue of The Journal of Power Institutions in Post-Soviet Societies will be devoted to military journalism in the USSR, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) from concurrent historical, sociological and political points of view. It will examine the faces of tension and compromise between freedom of the press and constraints suitable for military journalism.

In the wake of the London Olympics, which opened with a popular and populist ceremony depicting the Britain of yesteryear while celebrating the vibrancy of a modern multicultural society, it is timely to consider this deployment of soft power against the backdrop of contemporary Britain. More specifically, the aim of the conference is to explore and draw together common threads and themes – individual expression and freedom, an inherent consciousness of the past and a continuing national identity and iconoclasm – and to consider their influence in the context of broader political and social developments, including Britain’s faltering relationship with the EU, the response to the financial crisis and to Scottish devolution.

La création littéraire contemporaine dans la péninsule Arabique
Depuis la fin du XXe siècle, la production littérature de la Péninsule s’est affirmée sur la scène littéraire arabe comme un acteur incontournable du devenir de la littérature arabe, à la fois par ses écrivains, ses structures de légitimation et l’évolution du lectorat présent dans cette région. La contribution de certains pays comme l’Arabie saoudite et le Yémen est notable. Elle a parfois fait oublier l’activité littéraire d’autres pays de la Péninsule et les publications prévues porteront sur l'ensemble de la production des pays de la péninsule Arabique.
