  Atelier de modélisation de données avec nodegoat

  Nodegoar est un environnement web qui permet la gestion, l'analyse et la visualisation de données, développé par Pim van Bree et Geert Kessels (LAB1100). Une base de données bien réfléchie offre aux projets d'histoire numérique la possibilité d'analyses variées, de visualisations et d'interconnexion. Toute base de données historiques nécessite une compréhension approfondie des modèles conceptuel et logique des données. De même, le développement d'une interface adaptée est aussi une question importante. L'atelier aborde trois phases distinctes dans la modélisation des données: l'élaboration du modèle conceptuel, la conception du modèle logique de données et l'utilisation d'une application de base de données.

  The three-day conference aims to investigate how television programmes in their multiplicity approached issues like medical progress and its limits, healthy behaviour or new forms of exercise by adapting them to TV formats and programming...The conference seeks to analyse how television and its evolving formats expressed and staged bodies, health and fitness from local, regional, national and international perspectives. How spectators were invited not only to be TV consuming audiences, but how shows and TV set-ups integrated and sometimes pretended to transform the viewer into a participant of the show. TV programmes spread the conviction that subjects had the ability to shape their own body.

In previous years we have discussed topics ranging from the evolution of cultural habits (Building audiences, 2016) to the development of publishing skills (Curation. A perspective on the book industry, 2017). By the Book 5 will focus on innovation in order to identify the nature and drivers of change within the industry.

Yet just as the project of political internationalism between and after the World Wars was not without its challenges, so too did musical initiatives sometimes find themselves in positions of compromise, ethical conflict or co-option into unintended agendas.This two-day symposium will focus on music institutions and initiatives that were explicitly shaped by the project of internationalism during the politically-charged twentieth century.

  Post-soviet diaspora(s) in Western Europe (1991-2017)

  Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, millions of former soviet citizens crossed the national borders in search of better lives in new countries, in what was the biggest migration tide since the end of World War II. These Post-Soviet migrants were diverse in origins, strategies and expectations. They often represented a challenge to the orthodox views of migration processes, since in most cases these flows could not be easily described and analysed following commonly accepted theoretical frameworks. Everybody seemed to be on the move: labour migrants, political refugees, cross-border traders, “tourists” planning to forget their return... and in a short period, they spread all over Western Europe.

This conference is based on the idea that, not only has this power varied among industries, countries and different periods, but also that the way in which it is wielded has evolved over time. By bringing together scholars from various backgrounds within the fields of history, sociology, and political science, we intend to provide new insights on the multiplicity, depth and limits of the forms of influence that corporations, or the organizations furthering their interests – business associations, think tanks, communication or public relations agencies, foundations, etc. –, have on public policy.

  L'atelier international  "Théories et modèles de l'urbanisation" aura lieu les jeudi 12 et vendredi 13 octobre à Paris, avec des contributions (en anglais) d'économistes et de géographes comme Michael Storper, Michael Batty et Fulong Wu, et de modélisateurs des systèmes complexes venus de la physique ou de l'informatique comme Elsa Arcaute, Marc Barthélémy et Romain Reuillon. Leurs présentations seront discutées par une pléiade de spécialistes des villes et des systèmes complexes, afin d'évaluer les résultats de l'ERC GeoDiverCity et d'enrichir par de nouvelles propositions de futurs programmes de recherche. L'atelier se terminera par une table ronde animée par Eric Denis et Denise Pumain.

  5eme rencontre international du Réseau Européen d'Histoire de l'Architecture, à Tallinn, juin 2018

  This session aims to address, from a historical perspective, the relation between, on one side, architecture and the related disciplines, and on the other side, agriculture and rurality at large. We welcome proposals specifically mapping case studies concerned with large-scale agricultural development and/or colonization schemes conceived and (but not necessarily) implemented in Europe and beyond during modern times (late 18th-20th century), strongly connected to nation- and State-building processes, and to the modernization of the countryside. We are particularly interested in those examples which aimed to “make the difference” in both scale and numbers, entailing radical reshaping of previously uninhabited or sparsely populated areas into new, planned, “total” rural landscapes.

It provides funding to invite, from four to six weeks, international professors and senior researchers with a PhD, or equivalent, working in institutions of higher education and research, from all across the globe to come in France and enables them to carry out work in France (field enquiries, library work and archives).

  Although bankruptcy is a rather exceptional situation in the life of a merchant, it has explanatory power for routines of economic stakeholders. Considering the long, non-uniform and unsteady transition from merchant capitalism to industrial and financial capitalism, we suggest to start a dialog between modernistes and contemporanéistes. The workshop focuses on the various forms of contextualizing business failure and puts forward three major research axes: Covering and uncovering/secrecy and publicity; economic space and area of jurisdiction; temporal narratives of (in)solvency.

  Recent ethical challenges in social network analysis (RECSNA17)

  The interdisciplinary workshop RECSNA17 (Paris, 5-6 December 2017) brings together academics from several fields of knowledge to further advance the ethical reflection in the face of new research challenges. Research on social networks raises formidable ethical issues that often fall outside existing regulations. New tools to collect, treat, store personal data expose both research participants and practitioners to specific risks. Issues surrounding political instrumentalization or economic takeover of scientific results transcend standard research concerns. Legal and social ramifications of studies on personal ties and human networks surface at an unprecedented pace.
