Academic entrepreneurship in History
An international survey of current research
The Departments of History of Universiteit Gent, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Université Lille 3 and Università di Bologna are jointly organizing the international conference “Academic entrepreneurship in history” on 12-13 March 2015 at the STAM city museum in Ghent, Belgium. The aim of the meeting is to bring together an international group of scholars engaged in research on the notion and practice of academic entrepreneurship from the mid-nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth century. The focus will be on the range of actions, behaviors and qualities of academic scientists and their employing institutions which can be seen as entrepreneurial in at least one of the many senses in which the entrepreneurship term has been used in the economics and business history literatures.

Images environnementales globales : nouvelles perspectives

Medicine and Environment: What kind of interdisciplinary collaborations for synthetic biology?
The international conference "Medicine and Environment: What kind of interdisciplinary collaborations for synthetic biology?" will explore how synthetic biology, a rapidly emerging scientific field, is constructed as an interdisciplinary assemblage involving diverse fields such as molecular biology, engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, sociology, computer science, etc. What roles are the scientific disciplines involved supposed to play? How is synthetic biology structured around interdisciplinary conceptions of research? What are the planned collaborations between the natural sciences and the social sciences?

Transformations without Revolutions? How Feminist and Lgbtqi Movements Changed the World
A special issue of Zapruder World: Transnational Journal for the History of Social Conflicts
A special issue of Zapruder World: "Transnational Journal for the History of Social Conflicts" edited by Sabrina Marchetti, Vincenza Perilli and Elena Petricola. The journal focuses on social conflict paying particular attention to conflicts as movements rather than focusing on their resolutions, so as to better connect the history of social conflicts with current transnational cycles of protest. It therefore uses “social conflict” as an interpretative category rather than simply an object of analysis, exploring it through concepts and methodologies that address the complex interaction between the “local” and the “global”. Zapruder World is animated by an aspiration towards “global history” but intentionally leaves its actual definition, contents, and methods open for discussion.

Quatrième congrès international sur le carré des opposés
The Square : a Central Object for Thought
The square of opposition is a very famous theme coming from Aristotelian logic dealing with the notions of opposition, negation, quantification and proposition. It has been continuously studied by people interested in logic, philosophy and Aristotle during two thousand years. Even Frege, one of the main founders of modern mathematical logic, used it. This congress is an interdisciplinary event gathering logicians, philosophers, mathematicians, semioticians, artists, cognitivists, and computer scientists.
