Le thème de ce colloque international est la contribution de la dendrochronologie aux sciences humaines, dans une vision plus large que la seule datation du bois (détermination de l’origine du bois, écologie forestière, histoire du climat…). Il comprend des interventions non seulement de dendrochronologues mais aussi des utilisateurs des données dendrochronologiques, que sont les archéologues, les historiens, les historiens de l’art et les restaurateurs.

  Religions and Politics in Europe's Orients (14th-20th c.)

  The goal of this conference is to explore a number of aspects of the relationship between the religious phenomenon and politics through the historical framework of political developments in what progressively will become, through interaction, the Orients of Europe, i.e. Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well as the Eastern Mediterranean, an area so unorthodox and difficult to examine in terms of essentialist definitions. It is no accident that Samuel Huntington believed that what we call the ‘Orthodox East’ does not form a part of the West, but rather a sui generis encounter between Christianity and Islam at the borders of Europe. This theoretical scheme is not overturned by drawing the borders of Europe a little further to the East, as many believe, but by historicizing the issue of the relationship between religion and politics in the given geographical region through the comparative prism of what was occurring during the same period in Western Europe.

  Les sciences humaines et sociales en Grèce et en Turquie. Outils, enjeux et orientations

  En cette deuxième année de ce séminaire consacré à la construction des savoirs en sciences humaines et sociales en Grèce et en Turquie, l’histoire reste au cœur de la réflexion. Nous nous intéresserons aux thématiques privilégiées de la recherche historique actuelle dans les universités grecques et turques. Nous ferons également une place aux travaux portant sur « l’histoire de l’histoire », en présentant diverses approches critiques de la construction des sciences historiques. Dans un objectif de croisement disciplinaire, des sondages dans des domaines voisins tels que l’anthropologie, la sociologie ou les sciences religieuses seront poursuivis. En 2009-2010, deux ou trois séances seront consacrées à l’introduction de la psychanalyse dans les pays mis en étude.

  Living Landscape : The European Landscape Convention in Research Perspective

  In view of the 10th anniversary of the European Landscape Convention, that will be celebrated in Florence (Italy) on 20 October 2010, UNISCAPE and LANDSCAPE EUROPE are organising a scientific conference to discuss in depth the merits of landscape science at the forefront of integrated research in a rapidly changing spatial environment. The conference will be held on 18-19 October 2010 in Florence. The aim is to initiate a well prepared debate in order to define clear recommendations and guidelines from the scientific community to be presented to the audience of the official meeting on 20 October 2010. The conference is supported by the authors of the text of the European Landscape Convention, and will be realised in close consultation with the Commission on Cultural Heritage and Landscape (CDPATEP) of the Council of Europe.

The main purpose of this interdisciplinary workshop will be a theoretical and empirical examination of over-indebtedness from the perspective of southern countries, with the following underlying hypothesis: to define and analyze the process of indebtedness requires first an understanding of the complexity and diversity of debt relationships. The following questions might be addressed: 1) The social meaning of debt, creditworthiness and over-indebtedness. 2) Financial ‘markets’ and financial providers. 3) Financial culture. 4) Impoverishment and accumulation. 5) Over-indebtedness.

  Congo Basin Hunter-Gatherers

  The international conference is being held to share and evaluate recent research on Congo Basin hunter-gatherers. It has been almost ten years since international researchers have convened to discuss research and development issues facing Congo Basin hunter-gatherers. We are especially interested in field-based research reports from any discipline, but encourage participants to consider their data and conclusions within the scope of development, global change and the fate of Congo Basin peoples. Extensive cultural diversity exists and not all Congo Basis huntergatherers actively hunt and gather (e.g., they may have cash crops or live near cities). We are interested in understanding cultural diversity and processes of culture change, but the focus is on peoples and groups with a long history of living in and strong identity with the tropical forest. Papers on Congo Basin farmers and fishermen are encouraged if they include a history of or relationships between hunter-gatherers and farmers or fishermen. Papers that compare Congo Basin hunter-gatherer with farmers/fisherman or Congo Basin hunter-gatherers with hunter-gatherers in other parts of the world are also welcome.
