  From Republican exile to democratic transition: a historical appraisal

  Les universités, les laboratoires de recherche et les enseignants-chercheurs réalisent depuis plusieurs années un travail d’histoire sur l’exil républicain. Un exil qui a marqué un tournant dans l’histoire de l’Espagne mais aussi des pays ayant accueilli des réfugiés politiques en 1939. Cette année de commémoration est l’occasion pour la recherche de faire le point sur l’enrichissement des connaissances ainsi que sur notre compréhension de l’événement et de ses implications sur le long terme, en Espagne comme ailleurs. L’exil républicain espagnol a été abordé et étudié par diverses disciplines et avec une intensité peu commune, depuis vingt ans, par l’histoire. Cette historiographie a un caractère international lié à la nature de l’événement qui est à la source de l’exil : la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939).

  Bilan historiographique

  L’année 2019 sera marquée par les commémorations du 80^e anniversaire de l’exil républicain espagnol. Cette année de commémoration est l’occasion pour la recherche de faire le point sur l’enrichissement des connaissances ainsi que sur notre compréhension de l’événement et de ses implications sur le long terme, en Espagne comme ailleurs. Cette historiographie a un caractère international lié à la nature de l’événement qui est à la source de l’exil : la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939). Nous proposons donc de réunir un colloque de bilan historiographique les 8, 9 et 10 octobre prochains, à Albi et Toulouse, dans ce cœur géographique de l’exil espagnol en France.

  Spanish syndicalism within the framework of international relations

  The case of the General Workers Unions (1888-1986)

  The emergence of a labour movement, of socialist obedience, more specifically, in Spain, goes hand in hand with internationalism. From its creation, in 1888, the General Union of Workers (UGT) has tried to incorporate the international labour movement. Thus, through time, UGT joined the main organizations such as the International Federation of Trade Unions, the World Federation of Trade Unions, the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and the European Trade Union Confederation. The UGT also takes part in the work by the International Labour Organization and fosters relations with other foreign organisations. Finally, the UTG is involved with international solidarity groups and organisations dealing with social security like the Democratic Solidary organisation in Spain. To this day, few studies have been conducted on the importance of those links on the growth of the UGT, notably at some crucial moments of its existence such as the Francoist dictatorship and the transition towards democracy. These relations played a decisive part in the survival of  socialist trade unions.
