  Visibility Matters: Rendering Human Origins and Diversity in Space and Time

  The conference aims at bringing together scholars from various disciplines who work on the visualization of human origins and diversity. A particular focus will be on the diagrammatic forms of representation. Strategies of diagrammatic representation typically employ a series of textual, symbolic, and pictorial elements. Such strategies may include, among others, specific ways of subjectification; the serialization, spatialization, and temporalization of data; the storage of standardized data sets; and staging techniques of protagonists, events, and processes, notably in the architecture of exhibitions, parks and museums, and through the medium of film and animation.

  Rwanda: Genocide and Reconstruction

  A journey through the Genocide of Tutsi

  Organized in Rwanda by the Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center. The Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center based in Kigali, Rwanda continues their two/three-week US/Rwanda exchange program in order to deepen students’, researchers’, and artists’ knowledge of the Rwandan genocide. In the last years, the program started in 2004 has enabled teachers and students from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Singapore, Mexico, UK, France, Belgium, Spain, and the USA to develop narratives that engage questions of social justice, conflict resolution, and peace building. The program has involved theater artists, filmmakers, academicians, researches, and students from various disciplines and countries, whose practice engages questions of peace building.

  Vernacular Bible and Religious Reforms

  International Colloquium

  Dans les développements religieux en Europe du nord-ouest, la Bible était souvent instrumentalisée, comme étalon, source de conflit ou tout simplement pour son intérêt propre. Ce fut le cas avec la Devotio Moderna, l’humanisme biblique, la Réformation et la Contre-Réforme catholique. La mise à disposition des Écritures Saintes en langue vernaculaire représente le trait d’union entre ces mouvements de réforme dans leurs rapports respectifs avec la Bible. Bien que la Bible ait influencé de plus en plus en profondeur tous les aspects de la culture et de la société en Europe du nord-ouest, son étude scientifique a mené à la désacralisation du livre dès les dernières décennies du seizième siècle, et s’est ensuite inscrite en Europe dans les tendances de sécularisation. Au moyen des pamphlets notamment, la discussion s’est disséminée sur une plus grande échelle. L'objet de ce colloque est de dégager la signification et l’influence mutuelle des traductions de la Bible en langue vernaculaire et des réformes religieuses.

  Special issue of Méditerranée (2014)

  This special issue will look at the climatic, environmental and social dimensions of the Little Ice Age (LIA) in the Mediterranean, between the second half of the 13th to 19th centuries. Contributions should derive from the Meditterranean area, including its mountainous borders, and can include sedimentary and palaeoecological records, in addition to written and iconographic sources. The editors particularly encourage multidisciplinary studies.

  Local vocabularies of “heritage”: Variations, Negotiations, Transformations

  First congress of the Network of the Researchers on Heritagisations and the Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades da Universidade de Évora. The central idea of this symposium is to carry out an international comparison of vocabulary variants and local linguistic uses of "heritage", both in the context of contact with international institutions and in the limited one of indigenous and customary uses. The symposium therefore proposes to take seriously the emic definitions and redefinitions of "indigenous terms" and to draw up a critical inventory of them, by going beyond the fiction of a continuous and globalized homogeneous "heritage" field. A comparative analysis and the confrontation of related concepts in the different local vocabularies would also make it possible to get the measure of the transactions, mutations, misunderstandings and transfers that may arise from the global contact initiated in cultural exchanges over the last two centuries.

  عرف البحث الأثري المغربي حول الفترة الإسلامية طفرة متميزة خلال العقدين الأخيرين، ساهم فيها إحداث المعهد الوطني لعلوم الآثار والتراث كمؤسسة وطنية مختصة، وبفتح وحدات بحث ببعض الجامعات المغربية صبت اهتمامها على عدد من المواضيع الأكاديمية المتعلقة بالعمارة والفنون والمواقع الإسلامية، من بينها دراسات معمارية وفنية همت معالم ذات وظائف مختلفة حضرية وقروية، وأبحاث ميدانية تمحورت حول إشكاليات تهم مدنا مندرسة ومواقع محصنة واستغلاليات وورشات إنتاجية، منها ما يرتبط بالمجال الزراعي (السقي وتوزيع المياه)، ومنها ما يرتبط بالصناعة والتجارة والحرف، ومنها ما يرتبط بهما معا (زراعة قصب السكر وإنتاجه). كما انكبت أبحاث ميدانية أخرى على دراسة مجالات شاسعة، معتمدة في ذلك على تقنيات المسح الأثري، بقصد فهم آليات الاستقرار البشري خلال الفترة الإسلامية، والاستغلال المجالي وتنظيمه بمناطق عديدة من المغرب الوسيطي والحديث، وكذا محاولة التوصل إلى معطيات علمية تساعد على فهم التطور العمراني أو تراجعه خلال مختلف الحقب التي مر بها المغرب

Elle aborde spécifiquement les contextes sociaux et institutionnels où se développent les entreprises créées par des immigrés. Le livre sera édité par l’Éditorial Comares et coordonné par Fernando López Castellano, Fernando García-Quero et Mourad Aboussi, chercheurs à l’Université de Grenade (Espagne). L'appel à contributions est ouvert jusqu’au 23 décembre 2011. La langue de publication est l’espagnol. Cependant, il est possible d’envoyer des contributions en français et en anglais aux seules fins d’évaluation. En cas d’acceptation, la traduction à l’espagnol devra être remise au comité de coordination dans les délais indiqués ci-dessous.
