Forms of cultural and social resistance in Algeria. From Antiquity to Independence

The Changing City in Roman and Late Antique Africa: Actors and Scales of Transformation

Development Seen from Africa: Perceptions, Management, and the Challenge of “Better Living”

African Journal of Social Responsibility and Sustainable Management - volume 3, issue 2, 2026

Urban Metamorphoses: Socio-Spatial Dynamics in Arab Cities
Revue « EchoGéo »
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Arab world has undergone rapid urbanization. Today, global cities in the region such as Doha and Dubai have themselves become exporters of new urban paradigms to the wider Arab world and beyond. This issue of EchoGéo aims to explore these urban metamorphoses through a multidisciplinary and comparative approach, connecting dynamics across North Africa and the Middle East, and to bridge three elements: understanding the forces that deeply transform Arab cities, examining how they unfold in concrete places, and giving full attention to the resistances, detours, and inventions that redraw urban life.

Islamophobia(s): North African Perspectives
The concept of Islamophobia is widely used in studies on racism, discrimination, and security policies in Europe, it remains more prevalent in Anglophone scholarship than in Francophone academic debates. the concept has received little attention in the Maghreb (North Africa), despite the region’s close and multifaceted historical, political, and social connections to the phenomenon. We invite researchers to engage with the concept of Islamophobia, as well as with related notions (such as hatred, hostility, discrimination, or racism directed against Muslims, Islam, Arabs, or North Africans), from one or more Maghrebi perspectives, in order to discuss the term’s scholarly relevance.

Feeding urban territories in North Africa
Crossed perspectives from Algeria and Egypt
This collective volume explores urban food supply systems in North Africa, with a particular focus on Algeria and Egypt, where rapid processes of metropolization and megalopolization intensify pressures on food resources. Through a territorially grounded approach, the book aims to examine the challenges of food security in cities facing urban sprawl, loss of agricultural land, rising food demand, and increasing dependence on imports. The objective is to provide a cross-cutting analysis of territorial dynamics, supply chains, urban–rural reconfigurations, and the limitations of public policies in addressing urban food systems. Contributions are expected to adopt empirical, comparative, or modelling approaches, addressing themes such as urban planning, multi-level governance, food justice, short supply chains, and the regulation of informal economies, all within a broader perspective of strengthening the resilience of urban food systems.

Changes in media law in Africa in the digital age and artificial intelligence

Sung poetry in Amazigh and Arabic languages
Revue « Poésies toutes ! »
This inaugural issue of Poésies toutes ! aims to deal with sung poetry in Amazigh and Arabic languages, based on the observation that in these two linguistic domains, poetry and song are important components of culture, if not the most important. This cultural affinity extends to the age-old relationship between these two arts. They are, in a way, two sides of the same coin. This publication will be divided into two parts. Each of them will bring together contributions that explore sung poetry in the three idioms : Amazigh and Arabic, taking into account the diversity and linguistic particularities specific to each of them.

Call for papers - Political studies
The populations of Western Sahara and Palestine share the same denial: that of recognition, by third-party states, of a political subjectivity granting them the right to decide their own destinies. How can comparison and historical perspective on these two issues help us better understand their political, legal, and social dimensions? The aim of our proposal is, in fact, to highlight them, while at the same time trying not to overlook the differences, starting with the social structure of the two populations and their identity construction.

Religious Conversions. Believing and Doing on the Move in the Mediterranean Area
This issue looks at religion in terms of its ability to mobilise institutions, groups and individuals around plural dynamics that contribute to the redefinition of the religious field itself. It looks at religious conversion through the prism of multidirectional and communicating trajectories, ’bifurcations’ in which movements of diversions, decentering and return to the self come together. Religious conversion is understood here beyond the dualistic categorisation of rupture and continuity. This leads us to think of it not simply as an opaque process of religious disaffiliation and affiliation, but as a movement from self to self, involving a constant tension of negotiation between reconfiguration of the ways in which people believe and do religion, and the significance of the identities and sensibilities of individuals in a given social environment.

The Problem of Urban Extensions & Informal Housing
Studies on informal housing are often fragmented, limiting the overall understanding of the issue. Beyond housing precariousness, informal housing encompasses a complexity of aspects influenced by various economic, social, and political factors, with a perspective often focused on Southern countries. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to fully grasp these dynamics and formulate inclusive urban policies adapted to all societies.
