Experiencing Contact in Native North America (17th-19th centuries)

Far from being limited to specific places and times, contacts between Native Americans and Euro-American settlers should be studied as long-term phenomena. These encounters took various forms: they could be contentious, diplomatic, cultural, religious, or economic in nature. Our goal is to study the nature of these encounters, their different occurrences, their spatial dimensions, as well as their consequences, for both Indigenous peoples and Euro-Americans.  By stressing the role played by long-standing Indigenous traditions in these encounters, we seek to testify to the ways in which Native Americans were able to control their interactions with Euro-Americans while situating these encounters in relationship to well-established Indigenous practices. To do so, we are looking for proposals which rely on Indigenous archives, both material and immaterial, and/or use new methods to analyze colonial records.

Education and pedagogy in Bayle's work

    Online Bayle Seminar 2026

    Jacques Feyder: Creator, Master, Patron

The exceptional recognition that Jacques Feyder (1885–1948) enjoyed in his lifetime contrasts with the paucity of studies devoted to him. In light of the historiographical renewal that cinema has undergone, thanks to new or previously under-exploited archives, as well as the restoration of several films in recent years, this conference aims to examine a unique body of work that invites us to revisit a significant part of the history of French and international cinema.

Cultural Diversity and Inclusive Education: Otherness, Othering and Transformative Practices

The international conference in March 2026 at the Université libre de Bruxelles focuses on cultural diversity and inclusive education within the context of superdiversity. It highlights school tensions related to social, cultural, and linguistic inequalities as well as conflicts over justice and recognition. Since the 1990s, inclusive education promoted by UNESCO has expanded beyond integrating special needs students to embrace all forms of diversity. However, a gap remains between the ideal of inclusion and exclusionary practices tied to othering. The call for papers encourages an interdisciplinary approach involving sociology, anthropology, education sciences, philosophy, linguistics, and digital studies. Researchers and practitioners are invited to share their experiences and reflections, incorporating African and American perspectives to enrich the discussion. The goal is to rethink inclusive education beyond conventional views through comparative and postcolonial lenses.

    Speculative narratives from the margins

Social alternatives, decolonial ecologies, and critical knowledge

Choosing the margins as the main focus of this conference will help to examine how speculative fiction disrupts hegemonic narratives, bringing to light subaltern or minoritised modes of knowledge, temporality, and resistance; how it operates somewhere between the end of the world and the possibility of a new beginning to allow us to imagine other ways of inhabiting the Earth and of projecting ourselves collectively into the future. Proposals exploring these issues through the study of narrative processes, cultural appropriations, andintertextual circulations, will be welcome.

What forests do to energy counter-mobilizations

    Modes of action, politicization, alliances
