Cycle of conferences on post-colonial studies from Latin America
This first edition of the Conference Series on Postcolonial Studies from Latin America — conducted in collaboration with the Department of Languages — arose from a particular concern: what does it mean to engage with Latin American thought from France? In an article that also serves as a statement of position, historian Serge Gruzinski attempts to answer this question: France is a place where it is possible to seek a new conception of the relationship between Europe and America, far from the reductions that certain intellectual traditions—notably American postcolonial studies—have made of Latin America.

Democracy at University: Voicing Choices
In France, as abroad, questions of democracy span multiple social fields. The University appears as a privileged place for observation and reflection. As a space for academic and civic education, for the transmission of knowledge and collective experimentation, it also constitutes a laboratory for democratic practices.

Speculative narratives from the margins
Social alternatives, decolonial ecologies, and critical knowledge
Choosing the margins as the main focus of this conference will help to examine how speculative fiction disrupts hegemonic narratives, bringing to light subaltern or minoritised modes of knowledge, temporality, and resistance; how it operates somewhere between the end of the world and the possibility of a new beginning to allow us to imagine other ways of inhabiting the Earth and of projecting ourselves collectively into the future. Proposals exploring these issues through the study of narrative processes, cultural appropriations, andintertextual circulations, will be welcome.

Precarious housing in the Global South
Public interventions and residents' expériences
This call for abstracts aims to highlight the growth and complexity of precarious housing in a context of increasing urban inequality. Far from being reduced to marginality or poverty, these spaces represent a third of the world's population and play an active role in urban dynamics, combining vulnerability, inventiveness and collective capacities. In the face of often repressive or insufficiently coordinated policies, it calls for recognition of their diversity, their essential function in the urban fabric, and the importance of interdisciplinary reflection based on field surveys, via the following thematic areas: theme 1 - Ambivalent effects of urban public action, theme 2 - Residents' practices, mobilisation and daily resistance, theme 3 - Institutional, symbolic and criminal violence: forms, effects and social responses.

Conference, symposium - History

The aim of this conference is to examine the modalities and consequences of terrorist action, as well as the interweaving of anti-terrorist practices (public policies, legal frameworks, prevention) and counter-terrorist practices (operational, military or police actions) aimed at containing terrorism in societies which are not engaged in international warfare. The aim of this conference is to analyse the ways in which anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism have mutually redefined each other, while constantly reconfiguring the boundaries of political, military, police and legal interventions across the European continent from the second half of the 20th century onwards. In addition to this political and institutional approach, the conference will also look into the representations, as well as the social and media effects of these phenomena.

Indigenous Peoples in Global Politics
Monções: Revista de Relações Internacionais da UFGD
This special issue aims to gather contributions from researchers studying indigenous peoples in international politics. We particularly – though not exclusively – encourage submissions on topics such as: How does the political action of indigenous peoples yield pressure on traditional concepts such as politics, sovereignty, international cooperation, and global governance? To what extent and through what mechanisms do these practices subvert or are co-opted by the hegemonic structures of the international system? In what ways do indigenous philosophies and worldviews challenge the colonial logics of the Anthropocene, extractivism, and the geopolitics of knowledge?

Geographies of Vulnerability. Assessing Protection in the Screening and Resettlement of Refugees
Central to policy discourses on refugee protection and resettlement is the imperative to include those with the greatest needs. International protection mechanisms for refugees increasingly aim to categorize and identify target populations according to their vulnerability. This topical collection recognizes vulnerability as fluid and contested, shaped by evolving policy landscapes and international cooperation dynamics and explores the impact of different understandings of vulnerability on access to protection and the aim of burden-sharing.

Territory(ies) and Gender(s) in the Americas
This international colloquium explores the links between gender(s) and territory(ies) in the geographical space of the Americas — or Abya Yala — from pre-Hispanic times to the present day. The plurality of the Americas, whether linguistic, political, or cultural, requires intersecting perspectives and approaches. This colloquium offers a multi- and interdisciplinary dialogue drawing from anthropology, sociology, literature, history, geography, political science, archaeology, and arts. It analyzes the dynamics of gender and territory from decolonial and intersectional perspectives.

The word crisis, derived from the Greek word krisis, means judgment, decision. Conceptually speaking, “a crisis is an illness” (a conceptual metaphor justified diachronically by its etymological meaning of “the decisive phase of an illness”), or “it is a war”, if we focus on the meaning of “an outbreak with violent manifestations”. It is, therefore, a moment of major change. Our societies are plagued by successive and often overlapping crises, enabling them - if not forcing them - to evolve and transform themselves. The conference will focus on two parallel and complementary themes: “The economic crisis / The economy of the crisis” and “Discourse in a time of crisis”.

Colonising and decolonising: Europe-Africa relations in the 19th and 20th centuries
“Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal” issue 24
This issue of Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal aims to reflect on European colonialism in Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries, trying to explain, through current historical knowledge, the colonial fact —one, similar, transversal in its ideas and practices— structured in different territorial and national strands, and highlighting the deconstruction of myths, ideas and theories that have succeeded each other and metamorphosed to legitimise and justify colonial violence. It is also about giving a voice to Africans, so silenced by the colonial system, by listening to their interpretations of a reality from the near past that left significant marks on their daily lives.

The electoral process in Cameroon as a political dynamic: Actors and Factors
Collective work
The electoral process in Cameroon is a complex political dynamic, characterized by challenges and controversies, but also by important issues in terms of legitimacy, legitimation and political legality and democracy. Objectifying this issue requires an in-depth analysis of electoral institutions (norms and organs), citizen participation, the challenges encountered and the political implications. The Cameroonian political-electoral process as a political dynamic therefore involves a multitude of factors and actors.

Backlash politics and sustainable development in Latin America
Special issue of the “Revue internationale des études du développement”
This special issue of the Revue internationale des études du développement aims to bring together articles dealing with the politics of backlash in sustainable development in Latin America. The terms “backlash” and “backlash politics” are essential elements of the contemporary political landscape. They can be used in various contexts to refer to conservative mobilization, to movements in favor of local autonomy, to radical right populism, etc. We seek to stimulate in-depth reflection on conservative mobilization and the varied responses it has elicited in Latin America, across different political areas and at different scales. We call for innovative contributions and invite authors to focus on three lines of inquiry centered on ideas, institutions, and interests: 1/ Conservative agendas: reconfigurations and contestations of SD discourses and frameworks; 2/ Institutionalizing the backlash: changes in norms and politics; 3/ The strategies and interests of backlash actors.

Despite their numerical preponderance among the missionary workforce exercising a Christian apotolate at the end of the Ottoman Empire, women have long attracted less work than men. A rebalancing is in progress, spurred on by the gender studies and extended to the whole Muslim world. We will focus on real encounter and conflict situations, avoiding an essentialist approach to Islam and considering the extreme diversity of the field strategies and practices. This approach will be carried out in equal parts, in a decentering and critical way, far from denominational approaches.
