    Radicalism(s) and Social Resilience

    Youth Confronted with Uncertainty

    Risk at work

    Literary paradigms and research perspectives

Negociating images. Dialogical photography practices in anthropology

    Civilisations journal (vol. 75, 2026)

This special issue will explore dialogical photographic practices in which the image becomes a space for exchange. Photographers, like ethnologists, play a role of mediator who stimulates collective understanding. More than a mere document, photographs here are perceived as a relationship and a site for the co-construction of meaning. This approach invites us to think differently about methodologies and the restition of ethnographic works. At the heart of our reflection is the question of what methods are put into place, and the issue of power and control overs images, alongside the ethical and economic implications of collaborative approachs used by visual anthropology. We invite potential contributors to explore innovative forms of visual narration, for example those that make use of dialogical presentations, multimedia practices, pratical use of archives, or even digital tools, in particular open-source ones.

Praise for the historian’s craft: What's new?

Or historical experience and its epistemological sublimation

Taking the example of Marc Bloch as its starting point, this workshop is not intended as a tribute to the man he was, nor as an exegesis of his work. Rather, it invites us to engage in a kind of role-playing, in which we take up Marc Bloch's question: are we in a position to propose new appraisals for the historian’s craft? This workshop is organized around two major themes: the epistemology of history today, and the experience lived by the professional researcher in troubled times.

    Situated-design : issues and perspectives

Situated-design can be defined as a new approach to design that is part of a contextual dynamic in which creation and design take full account of: materials, know-how, social practices, and the uses of territory, landscapes and environments, as active elements in the design process. In opposition to the dominant productivist model of industrial design, situated design is particularly distinguished by its commitment to preserving and enriching environments.

African Arts during the Second World War: Spoliations, Destructions, Displacements

The contemporary focus on African cultural property looted during the colonial period has served to shift the focus back to African artefacts as central to the historical issues of the twentieth century. However, the question remains as to whether this assertion extends to the Second World War period. In the context of contemporary research into objects from colonial contexts and those looted between 1933 and 1945, the fate of African works during this period remains an unresearched subject. This study day will shed light for the first time on the multiple consequences of the war on African art, including its commercialisation, movement and disappearance, both in Africa itself and in Europe.
