The Fate of Post-Mortem Personal Data
Profiles compiled from scattered digital footprints left by the user on the Internet shape the outline of digital identities. While the Internet user is alive, he remains in charge of managing these identities, with the help of digital privacy law. Yet as civil rights befall the living, these data protection rights, as such, fall as his death occurs. This international workshop, organised in the frame of the ENEID research project on post-mortem digital identities, will bring together scholars from the field of Information and Communication sciences and from Legal studies, as well as experts working as Data Protection Officers or working for Data Protection Authorities, in order to take a closer look at the fate of personal data after death.

Ce colloque se propose de tenter une théorisation de la notion de spirituel afin d'en faire une catégorie scientifique utilisable dans le champ des sciences humaines. Depuis le poststructuralisme, la théorie, notamment littéraire, est devenue experte en matière d'analyse et de remise en question du soubassement idéologique de tout discours. Toutefois, cette « herméneutique du soupçon » (Ricoeur, 1975) se trouve démunie lorsqu'il s'agit d'élaborer une herméneutique « instauratrice de sens » (Ricoeur, 1965) permettant de penser l'humain au-delà de sa matérialité.

Archives from apostolic penitentiaries - their current condition and perspectives for the future
À l'occasion du cinquième anniversaire de l'ouverture aux chercheurs des séries consultables à l'Archivio della Penitenzieria Apostolica, une journée d'étude se tiendra le mardi 22 novembre 2016 au Palais de la Chancellerie, avec le patronage de l’École française de Rome et du Deutsches Historisches Institut in Rom. Trajectories of October 1917: Origins, reverberations and models of revolution
Around the overarching theme of October 1917, we are seeking to foster dialogue between historians of 1917 who can make new contributions to the interpretation and analysis of that revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire, and scholars working on other areas and on later periods who also deal with 1917 in their analysis and interpretation of revolutionary movements. To bring all of this research together, we are holding a conference, from 19 to 21 October 2017, in which scholars from various disciplines and specialists of different areas are invited to participate.

Radical Americas Symposium 2016
The theme of this year’s Radical Americas symposium is “Decolonizing Americas”, acknowledging the long arc of struggle for freedom since the period of European colonization of the Western Hemisphere in the 15th century. Our collaborative effort will be to consider how histories within the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean converge and depart in relation to the experience of anti-colonial and decolonizing social movements, many of which continue today. We will also consider the ways that cultural efforts, collectives, art, and intellectual projects shape radical imaginaries of freedom.

A journey between the categories of the pure and impure in the imagination of the ancient world
Le colloque international « Hagnos, Miasma, Katharsis. Voyage entre les catégories du pur et de l’impur dans l’imaginaire du monde ancien » (Cagliari, 4-6 mai 2016) propose une mise au point sur les études consacrées aux phénomènes du pur et de l’impur et à leur exégèse antique. La réflexion autour de ce thème privilégiera une approche interdisciplinaire, tenant compte des perspectives iconographique, littéraire, anthropologique et historico-religieuse, afin d’encourager une confrontation et un dialogue élargis entre les spécialistes de cette question cruciale pour comprendre les mentalités antiques.

The Centre Walras-Pareto is organizing a workshop on the history of wages. The workshop will take place at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), 29-30 September 2016. Much has been written on wages within economics. In his classical account of the history ofwage theory, Dunlop (1957) refers to three time-periods: the wage-fund theory domination,the rise of marginal productivity distribution theory, and the “contemporary setting”, startingin the 1930s and characterized by a diversity of theoretical arguments; but much has changed.

New contribution to Geoarchaeology

Geoarchaeology, defined as the application of geosciences and geographical methods to prehistory, archaeology, and history, is now widely applied to study key subjects such as occupation patterns, territory and site exploitation, palaeoclimatic, palaeoenvironemental, and palaeogeographical changes, as well as anthropogenic impacts and system responses. The multidisciplinary and multiscalar dimensions of geoarchaeological approaches have encouraged continuous development and innovation of methods and approaches that have opened new possibilities for explorations in geographical sectors previously inaccessible, the development of large-scale data acquisitions and treatment, and also the development of microscopic scale analysis precision. This session will highlight global research in geoarchaeology with particular emphasis on innovative methods or cutting edge research using established approaches.

The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. L'objectif de ce séminaire consiste à articuler transformations urbaines, migration et mondialisation pour mieux comprendre la fabrication des villes-mondes plurielles, marquées par de très forts taux d’immigration et de part de population étrangère. Partant des pratiques et des représentations des différents acteurs sociaux, économiques et politiques qui produisent et vivent dans ces villes, il s’intéresse aux modalités d’incarnation socio-spatiales de la diversité, ainsi qu’à sa gestion. En pensant simultanément les connexions et les ancrages, en jouant systématiquement sur l’articulation des échelles, l’enjeu du séminaire est d’élaborer un cadre analytique théorique comparatif afin de réfléchir aux modes de transformation des métropoles plurielles, engagées dans des dynamiques de mondialisation, en fonction de leur insertion dans les réseaux globalisés, de leur taille démographique et de leurs héritages et contextes politiques.

Musical narratives, performances, and reconstructions of the past (20th-21st centuries)
The quest to reconstruct thestyles and histories of musical genres of the past is an old preoccupation. Since the 19th century, the orientalist imaginary contributed considerably to the notion of the existence of "origin-musics". Whether "Pharaonic", "Arab", or "Hindu", a common reference to the past, seen as prestigious and immutable, contributed to the rationalization of musical knowledge on the basis of constructed connections. The orientalist period being relatively well documented, this workshop is more focused on ways of speaking of and describing the past over the course of the 20th century and into the 21st.

South-South Axes of Global Art
The decentered internationalism espoused by the Havana, Dakar, and Gwangju biennials invites art historians to depart from an exclusively North Atlantic focus. Such a shift in purview seriously considers cities and regions that have been marginalized by previous academic emphases, more so than by their historical circulations of art and culture with the rest of the world. Historicizing and measuring the circulation of art on the former margins is now a decisive task if we want to evidence, nuance, or contest the “provincialization” of Europe and North America in recent art history. Artl@s’ upcoming conference aims to gather an international and transdisciplinary group of researchers to collectively investigate the formation and impediments of what we call “South-South” axes from decolonization to the present day.

Engaging Society in Innovation and Creativity
Perspectives from Social Sciences and Humanities
The trend of change from science and technology policy to science, technology and innovation (STI) policy becomes remarkable in Japan but also in Europe. Policymakers intend to break down the sense of economic and social stagnation by creating innovation driven by science and technology. In order to solve complex social issues, innovation is definitely essential. However, it is also obvious that creating “real” innovation needs some other elements than just the development of hard science and technology. Innovation needs integration of knowledge beyond disciplines. Recently the role of social science and humanities (SSH) in the innovation process is being highlighted and science, technology and innovation policy of many countries now expects SSH to play important role in conceiving, realizing and adjusting the policy.
