Dans le cadre de l’axe n° 4 du CICC consacré à l’histoire de l’Europe (resp. Pr Gérard Bossuat), nous proposons d’étudier comment, à partir du XIIe siècle, les conflits religieux sont progressivement associés à divers types d’échanges entre confessions (islam, judaïsme, christianismes). Loin de constituer des pratiques marginales n’émergeant qu’en période de paix, loin de constituer le versant pacifique de la violence religieuse, ces échanges sont paradoxalement constitutifs des oppositions, qu’il s’agisse des juifs en Espagne au XVe siècle ou des relations entre catholiques et protestants pendant les guerres de religion.
