  Journée de l’histoire contemporaine 2026

  The 2026 edition of the Dag van de Nieuwste Geschiedenis – Journée de l’Histoire Contemporaine, organised by the Belgische Vereniging voor Nieuwste Geschiedenis – Association belge d’Histoire contemporaine BVNG-ABHC and the University of Antwerp, aims to focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence in (Belgian) historical research, heritage management, and education, and to provide a forum for exploring the opportunities, risks, and challenges of AI within the Belgian historical landscape by inviting contributions that approach these developments critically, empirically, and/or pedagogically.

  Chercheur pour le projet FEDTWIN "La collection photographique des Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire"

  Consisting of about 120,000 items, the vast collection of photographs of the Brussels Royal Museums of Art and History has never been studied thoroughly. This project aims at the assessment, study and disclosure of this collection. This function is part of the FED-tWIN programme of the Federal Science Policy, which aims to promote sustainable cooperation between the ten Federal Scientific Institutions and the 11 Belgian universities through the funding of joint research profiles. In this case, its is a joint initiative of the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels and Ghent University. The position consists of a part-time position at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels combined with a part-time position at Ghent University. It combines research tasks, educational tasks, organization of exhibitions, project leading tasks.

  Minorities in/at war

  Between Violence and Legal Protection 1912-1923

  Le colloque international « Minorities in/at War », organisé en partenariat avec le CegeSoma, traitera de la question de la violence perpétrée envers les minorités et de leur protection légale dans la période entre 1912 et 1923. L’événement s’articulera en deux journées d’étude comprenant des présentations d’historiens et des discussions. Étant donné la pertinence du thème pour l’actualité contemporaine, le présent aura aussi une place de choix dans le colloque. Ce colloque se tiendra au Royal Library Meeting Center, à la Bibliothèque Royale, les 9 et 10 mars 2017.

  Renovatio, inventio, absentia imperii

  De l’Empire romain à l’impérialisme contemporain

  At the heart of the present conference will be the ‘reception’, ‘Nachleben’ or ‘permanence’ of the Roman Empire, of an idea and a historical paradigm which since Classical Antiquity has supported the most widespread claims to obtain and consolidate power. The focus will be on ‘culture’, this latter concept intended in a broad sense, i.e. including not only the arts, architecture, literature etc., but also philosophy, religion and, most importantly, discourse. As such, a wide array of themes will be subjected to academic scrutiny. Whereas the main focus will be on Europe and North America, this conference will also reach out towards non-Western contexts, whether or not directly related to the Roman example.

  Marchand, collectionneur, critique, éditeur… : L’ « animateur d’art » et ses multiples rôles

  Etude pluridisciplinaire de ces intermédiaires culturels méconnus des XIXe et XXe siècles

  L’objectif de ce colloque est de révéler l’impact du rôle de l’animateur d’art dans le développement des arts. Nous espérons que ces journées d’études nous permettront de préciser la première description de cet acteur, formulée ainsi : « L’animateur d’art participe activement à la défense des arts et à la stimulation de la création artistique d’une époque. Il mobilise ses nombreux réseaux afin de diffuser des idéologies et des esthétiques Il est une figure clé qui se positionne comme intermédiaire entre les différents mondes de l’art ainsi qu’entre les divers agents du milieu culturel. Son travail consiste à construire des ponts entre les artistes et son propre milieu social afin de faciliter la réception des oeuvres et promouvoir une esthétique particulière ».
