Whether they refer to people, places or businesses, names do things : they index belonging and difference, tell stories, record histories of mobility and settlement, and mediate social interaction. This topical collection uses names and naming practices to trace the reconfigurations that accompany migration.

What are the dynamics and vulnerabilities?
In L’économie du XXe siècle (The Economy of the 20th Century), François Perroux stated that “we do not have a comprehensive, coherent and usable theory of what I propose to call the ’domination effect’” Why talk about relations of domination when we are dealing with the circulation of knowledge, imaginaries, and skills in relation to linguistic diversity? When there is circulation, movement, transfer, there are differences in level, which means that knowledge, imaginations and skills do not emerge everywhere at the same time and in the same way, giving rise to differences, imbalances and potential conflicts.

The 1st Archipelagic Studies Symposium ‘The Island and the Archipelagic Dimension’ aims to reflect on issues of insularity and archipelagos in the conception of today's world, marked by environmental crises, new trends in human development and reinterpretations of place and its dynamics. Thinking about islands and archipelagos, in all their trans- and inter-material dimensions, equivalences and disparities, influences the conception not only of these discontinued worlds from their continental matrix (in some cases), but also of territories which are assumed to be outside the continent, with ontic possibilities of a truly archipelagic context.

D’après Natalie Depraz, la surprise est un système dynamique qui ne peut se limiter à son seul objet puisqu’il met en œuvre un processus qui commence par un horizon d’attente, culmine dans un moment de décalage pendant lequel s’ouvre une brèche, puis laisse place aux conséquences de cette irruption. La surprise est ainsi indissociable de l’attente, qu’elle « déçoit », déborde, trompe. D’une certaine façon, la surprise est l’échec de notre anticipation. Elle est alors liée à la notion de hasard ; elle est ce moment, de « bon-heur » ou de « mal-heur », un seuil inattendu. Il s'agit d'explorer ce processus dans les divers champs culturels des mondes hispaniques : en histoire, en littérature, en langue, en arts visuels.

L’espagnol américain et les « américanismes » : leur place dans le monde hispanique
Dès sa création en 1713 et jusqu’au XXe siècle, la Real Academia Española, dans sa fonction unificatrice et standardisante de la langue, a fixé la norme en privilégiant l’espagnol cultivé du nord et du centre de la péninsule ibérique, au détriment des modalités de l’Espagne méridionale et de l’Amérique hispanique. Cette politique linguistique a subi un tournant à partir de 1999, lorsque la RAE s’associe à l’ASALE (fondée en 1951 au Mexique) pour produire des travaux conjoints dans une perspective « panhispanique ». On peut se demander si la construction d’une norme pluricentrique se manifeste concrètement dans les faits ou s’il s’agit d’une simple déclaration d’intention.

“Imago Mundi”. An Overview of Metaphor: Creativity, Phraseology and Discourse
The guiding question of the conference will therefore be to try to specify the linguistic and conceptual functioning of the metaphor. More generally, the conference will welcome any contribution aimed at bringing out the relationships between metaphor and the three concepts in question: creativity, lexicalization and discourse. The analysis of metaphor can proceed from both a diachronic and synchronic perspective and address different types of corpora and texts. The conference will pay particular attention to the analysis of different types of discourse, in particular scientific, technological, media, tourism, advertising, political, legal, philosophical, historical, literary, artistic and educational/didactic discourse.

Transmodernity in Caribbean Literature and Arts
“Archipélies” n° 18
This issue of Archipélies takes a cross-disciplinary look at Caribbean identity and its new forms of expression. The impact of philosopher Edouard Glissant's theories has given unprecedented visibility to the Caribbean as a “New World Region” whose mixed-race and digenetic populations are constructing an unprecedented phenomenology of Relation. According to Fernando Ortiz, the various manifestations of the process of cultural interweaving that is taking place within the territories of the Caribbean presuppose a “transculturation”, that is to say, a “trans-” formation of the subject as part of the transcultural dialogue between the Same and the Other. This phenomenon, inherent in the Pan-American space, had already been highlighted by the Brazilian anthropophagic modernist movement led by Oswald de Andrade.

It is a specialized publication that places special emphasis on didactic, linguistic and cultural issues and perspectives, and accepts articles on research, reflection and pedagogical intervention in five languages: Spanish, English, German, French and Italian. Contributions submitted in other languages are also taken into account.

L’objectif est d’interroger la question migratoire dans toute sa complexité, ainsi que la vulnérabilité de la personne migrante, eu égard à sa stigmatisation et aux différentes visions dévalorisantes et/ou valorisantes à son sujet, des discours et des images qui demeurent polémiques et pourraient engendrer des dérapages et des glissements sémantiques, constituant ainsi l’objet d’étude de chercheurs appartenant à différents champs disciplinaires.

Reflecting the broad themes of this third conference, the three interconnected and complementary verbs of the title reflect an expanded sphere of investigation into language didactics and the construction of plurilingual identities, mostly linked to institutionalized places of learning such as schools or universities but also to other fields and approaches, to other professions and profiles involved in the exercise of interculturality and in the planning or management of plurilingual spaces. This international conference will bring together contributions from specialists in language didactics, didactics of plurilingualism, and language policies, grouped into three main sections for the purposes of fruitful exchange.
