  Administrative and Legal Documentation in Pre-colonial Africa and Beyond

  Fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5)

  Historians, anthropologists as well as specialists of various scholarly traditions are invited to reflect on the question of production, transmission and preservation of administrative and legal documentation in pre-colonial Africa. The aim of this panel is to foster dialogue between scholars working on non-narrative sources, whether land charters, weddings contracts, deeds, funerary inscriptions or other archival materials. Presentations of methodological issues rather than case-studies would facilitate a comparative approach leading to a renewed understanding of the social organizations that produced these documents.

  Este Coloquio Internacional pretende reunir en México, lugar emblemático de encuentros de ideas y situado en el cruce de las Américas, a investigadores de todas las disciplinas y los invita a que presenten trabajos sobre la circulación internacional de saberes entre los países del norte (industrializados) y los del sur (en desarrollo). Con esos propósitos, busca abrir un espacio de diálogo para dar cuenta de cómo se tejen las colaboraciones internacionales entre lugares distantes y distintos, por su posición geográfica, su lengua, su historia y sus ubicaciones en un universo de producción científica globalizado. Entre las temáticas atendidas, sobresaldrá en particular la manera en que estas relaciones se inscriben en las tradiciones de cooperación disciplinaria, algunas consolidadas desde hace más de un siglo, o rompen con ellas. Asimismo, nos interesará establecer las formas en que las prioridades de la cooperación internacional en investigación han sido influenciadas por los procedimientos de garantía de calidad, aplicados desde hace casi dos décadas, y por la homogeneización creciente de los valores y parametros científicos, auspiciada desde hace unos quince años, por los organismos rectores en los campos científicos nacionales. En esta perspectiva, analizaremos las continuidades y las fracturas que en diversas disciplinas han caracterizado las cooperaciones intelectuales, cuyas modalidades de ejercicio oscilan entre la reciprocidad y la dependencia.

  The Network of Researchers on Policy and Programme Evaluation of the French Evaluation Society is pleased to invite you to a free research seminar on: Methods for Synthesizing Knowledge, to beheld on December 10th 2012 at Paris-Dauphine University, Amphitheater 11. The promotion of evidence-based policy by an increasing number of national governments and international organisations has triggered the issues of gathering available evidence on the impact of public interventions, assessing its credibility, and providing policy-makers with knowledge syntheses. Two state-of-art methods have emerged up to date. The first approach builds on the tools of evidence based medicine: systematic review and meta-analysis. The second approach, called realist synthesis, is rooted in social sciences methodologies. This research seminar will present and discuss the available methods (see programme below).   Special issue of Méditerranée (2014)

  This special issue will look at the climatic, environmental and social dimensions of the Little Ice Age (LIA) in the Mediterranean, between the second half of the 13th to 19th centuries. Contributions should derive from the Meditterranean area, including its mountainous borders, and can include sedimentary and palaeoecological records, in addition to written and iconographic sources. The editors particularly encourage multidisciplinary studies.

  عرف البحث الأثري المغربي حول الفترة الإسلامية طفرة متميزة خلال العقدين الأخيرين، ساهم فيها إحداث المعهد الوطني لعلوم الآثار والتراث كمؤسسة وطنية مختصة، وبفتح وحدات بحث ببعض الجامعات المغربية صبت اهتمامها على عدد من المواضيع الأكاديمية المتعلقة بالعمارة والفنون والمواقع الإسلامية، من بينها دراسات معمارية وفنية همت معالم ذات وظائف مختلفة حضرية وقروية، وأبحاث ميدانية تمحورت حول إشكاليات تهم مدنا مندرسة ومواقع محصنة واستغلاليات وورشات إنتاجية، منها ما يرتبط بالمجال الزراعي (السقي وتوزيع المياه)، ومنها ما يرتبط بالصناعة والتجارة والحرف، ومنها ما يرتبط بهما معا (زراعة قصب السكر وإنتاجه). كما انكبت أبحاث ميدانية أخرى على دراسة مجالات شاسعة، معتمدة في ذلك على تقنيات المسح الأثري، بقصد فهم آليات الاستقرار البشري خلال الفترة الإسلامية، والاستغلال المجالي وتنظيمه بمناطق عديدة من المغرب الوسيطي والحديث، وكذا محاولة التوصل إلى معطيات علمية تساعد على فهم التطور العمراني أو تراجعه خلال مختلف الحقب التي مر بها المغرب

  Monuments, Documents: Interpretation and Overinterpretation

  Une opinion courante aujourd’hui veut qu’il n’y ait pas un instant où l’on ne cesse d’interpréter. Toute expérience d’une chose pourvue de sens nous placerait devant un cas d’interprétation et un produit de celle-ci. La question urgente pour la constitution d’un savoir « scientifique » est donc : y a-t-il une frontière entre interprétation et surinterprétation ? Autant l’interprétation semble légitime, autant la surinterprétation est-elle rejetée comme illégitime. Est-ce parce qu’elle apparaît comme une violence faite à l’objet que l’on cherche à comprendre ? Comme une brusquerie contre le consensus sur lequel la discipline en question est fondée ? Par ailleurs, si tout n’est qu’interprétation, y a-t-il encore place dans nos disciplines pour un réel progrès scientifique, et de quelle nature est-il ? (meilleure compréhension de l’objet, affinement des méthodes ?

  La figure d’Émile Durkheim, figure incontournable et classique de la sociologie française mais aussi de la sociologie allemande et anglo-américaine méritai d’être réinterrogée. Aujourd’hui on souhaite ouvrir de nouveau la réflexion et le débat en nous penchant sur la figure de Durkheim comme théoricien et sur son héritage théorique dans les deux disciplines qui nous occupent – sociologie & ethnologie – et dans les différentes écoles et courants. L’accent sera mis sur la manière dont les différentes écoles sociologiques (française, allemande, américaine) ont inscrit le travail de Durkheim entre sociologie et anthropologie le confrontant à d’autres auteurs : Marcel Mauss, Robert Hertz, Henri Hubert, Georg Simmel, Maurice Halbwachs mais aussi Bergson et Tarde.

  On 18 March 2010 the University of Antwerp hosts three keynote lectures by Dagmar Herzog (City University of New York), Dan Healey (Swansea University) and Rudi Bleys (Independent scholar) on the problem of modernity in the history and historiography of (homo)sexuality in Europe.   16th International Cave Bear Symposium

  Partout en Europe les recherches sur l'ours des cavernes connaissent maintenant un développement considérable grâce au Symposium international de l'ours des cavernes (ICBS). Depuis sa création en 1993 par le Professeur Docteur Rabeder de l'Institut de Paléontologie de Vienne (Autriche), il a lieu chaque année dans une ville différente d'Europe. Cette année, en 2010, il se tiendra à Azé (Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France) du 22 au 26 septembre. Ce sera l'occasion de faire le point sur des sites importants de Bourgogne, les grottes d'Azé, les grottes de Blanot et la Brèche de Château. Nous avons décidé d'ajouter une deuxième journée de communications centrées sur le lion des cavernes et plus largement sur les félidés, avec l'espoir de faire évoluer de la même façon les recherches dans un domaine bien souvent délaissé.
