Economic Regulation and Informal Economies in the Medieval and Early Modern Periods

In response to the global environmental crisis and the aporias of sustainable development, the concept of transition has spread as a central paradigm of public policy, despite –or perhaps because of– its vagueness and its instability depending on how it is used by a wide variety of actors. While transitions are often thought of in a sectoral and segmented manner, the territory has emerged as an integrative framework that promises to synchronise sectoral dynamics, stakeholder interactions and highly diverse scalar logics, enabling THE transition to take shape from multiple transitions.

    Art, mediation or intercultural counter-mediation

Essays presented to Professor Ngetcham of the University of Dschang

Art is a form of cultural expression and a mode of mass communication. Through their works and their strong transcultural audience, artists have the ability to build bridges between different cultural communities, where ignorance and political or economic power struggles tend to build barriers. Unfortunately, artists also have the ability to reinforce existing barriers when they lack the intercultural skills needed to step outside their own perspective and immerse themselves in the conceptual frameworks of others. It is this view of art as an activity that straddles intercultural mediation and counter-mediation that should be highlighted here, in a global context marked by a strong resurgence of nationalism and intercultural or inter-ethnic conflicts.

Artificial Intelligence: From Militarization to Peacebuilding

    “Communications” Journal (2028)

The journal Communications is launching a call for papers for a special issue on alternative approaches to artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on peacebuilding and breaking away from the militarization and surveillance logics associated with AI, robotics, and automation. As a dual-use technology with both civilian and military applications, AI is shaped by the military-industrial complex. Contributions will seek to analyze geopolitical, epistemic, and economic power relations, while advancing social justice and sustainability. The call encourages an interdisciplinary approach, including philosophy, sociology, history, STS, anthropology, political science, political economy, and humanities.

Environmental Economics and Dynamics of Fair and Sustainable Development

    Challenges, Instruments and Perspectives

Countries such as Morocco and Senegal have embarked on ambitious transitions through their national sustainable development strategies, but they face a funding gap that limits their adaptive capacity. At the same time, the traditional ecological knowledge of indigenous communities—rooted in centuries of experience in ecosystem management—represents a valuable heritage for developing resilience models tailored to local contexts. It is within this framework that an international congress will bring together researchers, experts, and local stakeholders to identify economic and financial tools capable of supporting a just and balanced transition for Africa.

    Lecture series - America

Cycle of conferences on post-colonial studies from Latin America

This first edition of the Conference Series on Postcolonial Studies from Latin America — conducted in collaboration with the Department of Languages — arose from a particular concern: what does it mean to engage with Latin American thought from France? In an article that also serves as a statement of position, historian Serge Gruzinski attempts to answer this question: France is a place where it is possible to seek a new conception of the relationship between Europe and America, far from the reductions that certain intellectual traditions—notably American postcolonial studies—have made of Latin America.

    Linguistic insecurity

Revue « Études en didactique des langues EDL »

The concept of linguistic insecurity emerged in the 1960s with the work of William Labov who believed that language reflects social stratification. This notion is used mainly by sociolinguists and language teachers and researchers. What links may exist between linguistic competence and insecurity? The subject remains relatively taboo in the teaching of foreign languages, be it for the language taught or the language of the country where it is taught. How can this phenomenon be defined and what are its contours? How can it bebe measured? How do feelings shift depending on context, experience, language, or other factors? What possible remedies or strategies are available to language teachers?

Uses, practices and experiences of digital sports

Special issue International Journal of Sport Science and Physical Education

The digitisation of sport involves the use of connected self-tracking devices and/or mobile training apps (such as Strava), which enable users to collect, store, view, process and, in some cases, share physical activity data such as time taken, distance covered, speed, heart rate, calories burned and GPS tracking. The widespread phenomenon of early distancing from digital sports devices seems to temper the promises made in the rhetoric of digital sport. This special issue aims to document the plurality and ambivalence of everyday uses of digitalisation (self-quantification and use of mobile applications) in sporting contexts.

    Sharing Strangeness

The study day Sharing Strangeness seeks to explore imaginary languages created within works of fiction (film, literature, television series, video games, etc.). Still relatively under-researched, these languages constitute linguistic, aesthetic, and cultural objects in their own right. Used to build fictional worlds, represent otherness, support narrative development, or foster audience engagement, they deserve closer scholarly attention. The event will welcome a wide range of contributions, from linguistic and semiotic analyses to reflections on the creation, reception, and social use of these languages.

Textual Bodies: Incarnation, Corporeality, and Affective Materialities through Literature

6th Meeting of Young Researchers of the SELGyC

In the contemporary context, marked by technological, cultural, and epistemological transformations that reconfigure our relationship with sensory experience, the body, and materiality, literature continues to function as a privileged space for critical reflection. In the face of discourses that tend to split, mediate, or dematerialize human experience, literary texts insist on the centrality of the body as a site of vulnerability, affect, and meaning-making.

Crossed perspectives between youth and old age in sources of Greek and Latin languages

At a time when debates are intensifying on the reversal of the age curve in Europe and, more broadly, in the Western world, the notions of “youth” and “old age”, considered as social categories, strongly resurface. However, these categories—for which consensual definitions may be lacking—are far from neutral.

Body awareness: therapy - practice - pedagogy

The theme of body awareness has been chosen for this conference, given the marked resurgence of interest in "reconnecting" with the body and sensations in our contemporary societies. We will concentrate on the different areas where body awareness offers new perspectives of practice and research, from healthcare to education, including the arts and sports. However, the increased visibility of this concept has also led to a proliferation of discourses and practices lacking any real conceptual or methodological foundation. These are often driven by the growing popularity of alternative or New Age approaches. The aim of this conference is to clarify the current situation by distinguishing between knowledge and practices that are supported by research and those that are not.

Reflecting on the richness of poor cinemas around the world in the 21st century

This symposium aims to put into global perspective the aesthetic and economic issues as well as the analysis of the creative and distribution processes that were at the heart of the study days devoted to low-budget cinema in France, which took place in 2024. Without romanticising the lack of resources, how can we define the theoretical, practical, political, economic and aesthetic contours of these ‘poor cinemas’ in a contemporary international context? What specific filmmaking processes ensure its existence? What original film forms emerge from it? What parallel distribution channels do these films require to be created and defended?

Les questions rurales en Afrique : défis et perspectives

Rural Issues in Africa: Challenges and Prospects
