Regards et réflexions sur les concepts de bifurcations et « doing transitions »

The aim of this Franco-German study day is to bring together different international research traditions. The aim is to compare research angles, concepts, frameworks and methods relating to life-course transitions. The widespread approach to the concept of 'bifurcation' in French-language research offers many possibilities for convergence with the 'Doing transitions' approach developed in recent years by the 'Doing transitions Graduiertenkolleg' research group. This comparative exercise will be considered not only between two countries, but also between two concepts that become fertile methodological tools for the emergence of new lines of thought, allowing both possible exchanges between the two traditions to generate a common field, but also the contribution of new epistemological avenues to fuel the debate on each side of the Rhine.

When science fiction changes the world...

    12th Symposium Stella Incognita

Since no one knows the future, no one can claim to be an expert on it. Nevertheless, as we all project ourselves into the future, a narrative is inevitably constructed and even a number of multiple ones, in which all possible questions are intertwined. This call for papers therefore draws on a wide range of disciplines to intuitively envisage probable, plausible or possible futures (Voros, 2006) or those being significant in terms of what we are provided with to consider and live vicariously through. While other literatures of the imaginary (Fantasy, Fantastique) are based on a leap out of reality, In this call, we'd like to take a look at our relationship to changes in the world, which is more akin to science fiction, even though there are several definitions of the “science fiction” genre.

Provence at the Crossroads of Artistic Trajectories during the 17th century

    Production, Markets, Circulation

Through its geographic location, Provence, taken here to be the region between Nice, Montpellier and the Comtat Venaissin, is an ideal location to reflect on the plurality of artistic movements. Open to the Mediterranean and boasting active maritime trade, it was also the last stop in France on the way to Italy, at a time when a visit to Rome was an essential part of any artist's training. The conference, which will be international and multidisciplinary, intends to examine the circulation of artists and works in Provence during the 17th century.

    Ageing in the Mountains

    Communicating in wartime

Transatlantic letters in the 18th century

Letters has been the subject of numerous studies, but until now the influence of conflict on it has been little explored. The aim of this study day is to compare approaches to this theme, looking at both the material aspects and the specific communication strategies and changes in content in the face of this exceptional situation.Today we are fortunate enough to be able to access these intimate sources through various archives such as the Admiralty Archives at the National Archives in London. They shed new light, through intimate and personal accounts, on the adaptation of information exchanges between families and those involved in the colonial trade. The different facets of this adaptation will be explored over the course of the conference.

Consent, Refuse, Surrender: Shadows of Conquest during the English Restoration 1660-1714

This conference opens a conversation between literary, cultural, historical, philosophical, legal, medical, and artistic perspectives to analyse and historicise the mechanisms that structure the notions of consent, refusal and surrender, and to study their evolutions across the breadth of the period. The goal of this conference is both to analyse the specific expression of these notions during the Restoration period, and to see how they enable us to rethink it. Finally, this project is launched with the aim of establishing an interdisciplinary research group on the Restoration.

Comment expliquer les ressorts et les enjeux sociaux, économiques, technologiques de ce succès et de ses ambivalences ?

Faith communities: living together or living side by side? Which role for public authorities?

Today, a debate on the relevance and legitimacy of public funding for religious communities has been sparked by the broadcast on Flemish public television of the Godvergeten documentary series about the victims of paedophilia committed by members of the Catholic clergy. More than ever, the question of the contribution made by faith communities to "living together" is being raised. At a time when calls are being made for the outright abolition of public funding of religious institutions, it is also worth looking at the situation in neighbouring countries. The aim of this workshop, organised as part of the triennial conference of the Belgian French-speaking Political Science Association, is to bring together people to reflect on faith-based communities in Belgium, and to look more broadly at the relationship between politics and religion, using examples from other countries.

    Changing Scale

Since the middle of the last century, efforts have been made to better exploit the potential of earth as a building material. All over the world, interest in earthen architecture is growing, and research centres are multiplying, as are training efforts. However, the major projects carried out in the 1970s did not become widespread. Their appropriation has often remained at the prototype or demonstrator stage. A situation which is not always easy to decipher. Is it lack of support from public authorities? Lack of interest from professionals? Lack of standards? Inadequacy for widespread use?

Sustainable urban dynamics and real estate

Sustainability has been a key issue in contemporary urban planning for several decades. This concept, which encompasses economic, social and territorial dimensions, may seem overused and even misused. However, it still represents a key area of scientific research. Many scientific studies in the field of geography have demonstrated the link between climate change, human activities and land use. This session aims to deepen territorial sustainability through the prism of real estate activities. Indeed, while the real estate sector generates a high level of pollution, it also induces several innovations (technological, territorial, health-related, etc.) that redesign the sustainable city beyond its purely ecological dimension.
