For the 55^th Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Historians (ACH), the overall theme will be “Migration and space.” We invite paper, poster, and panel proposals on any aspects of the above theme in Caribbean history.

Du cottagecore au solarpunk : les nouveaux visages de la pastorale entre littérature et politique

Entre la perte inconsolable d’un Éden terrestre que nous détruisons et l’évocation utopique de ce qu’il nous faudra retrouver, les enjeux liés à la pastorale sont portés à un degré d’intensité maximale par les conséquences de l’action humaine sur la planète. Nous avons constaté cette évolution dans notre laboratoire et partout dans le champ universitaire, en observant la multiplication des publications et des manifestations scientifiques qui sont consacrées à la pastorale. C’est pourquoi il est apparu opportun d’organiser une journée d’étude dédiée à la pastorale contemporaine en s’appuyant sur la spécificité de nos approches multidisciplinaires.

The Allied Withdrawal from Berlin

Conditions – Process – Consequences

En 2024 on commémorera le trentième anniversaire du départ des « Alliés » de Berlin. 49 ans durant leur présence aura marqué la ville dans son histoire, sa structure urbaine et tous les secteurs d’activité. La ville a été le lieu d’échanges multidirectionnels entre les diverses « communautés » alliées et berlinoises. La chute du Mur marque le début de la sortie de la Guerre froide en Europe. Après un bilan sur la présence des quatre occupants / alliés à Berlin, ce colloque analysera les conditions et la mise en œuvre du départ des militaires alliés ainsi que ses répercussions sur la ville de Berlin dans des perspectives multiples : qu’il s’agisse de l’arrivée de la Bundeswehr d’un point de vue militaire, ou bien de l’impact sur le paysage urbain, sur les évolutions démographiques, sociales, culturelles, ou économiques. Enfin, on s’interrogera sur les traces et la mémoire de la présence militaire alliée à Berlin depuis 1994.

Neoliberalization of education and the making of territories

The theme of this issue pursues questions that the journal Espaces et Sociétés has previously raised about the relationship between educational and territorial dynamics. Its originality will therefore consist in documenting the way in which neoliberal dynamics, which run through the education sector from primary to higher education, are contributing to the creation of contemporary spaces, both in peripheral areas and in central urban ones – as well as in spaces created specifically for education, such as campuses or emerging educational hubs, for example in Asia and the Middle East. It will also look at how educational models are internationalized and circulate in this process, between primary, secondary and higher education, between public and private, between North and South, without presupposing that this circulation is unidirectional.

Cinétismes, as a multidisciplinary and international scientific journal that promotes a transversal look at the phenomena of language (sign, text, language, memory), aims to serve as a focus and cluster for scientific research and reflection between language experts, such as they are taught, used and valued in Africa, with sharing of experiences in this area. One of the particularities of this issue is therefore to examine and review the didactic-pedagogical practices of national and official languages with a view to improving these practices, reporting experiences and opening up economic prospects towards the language market.

Political space in ancient times: representation, description, transformation

This conference aims to develop a reflection on the links between space and politics in ancient times, using an interdisciplinary approach. While archaeologists and historians have been interested in the ways in which space can be a political object, what is missing is a general reflection that would show the contribution of a spatial approach to politics in Classics. To renew our thinking on political space, we will compare the practices of archaeology, whose field of study is resolutely linked to space, and history, whose approach is often more political, with those of literature and philology, which have also seized on space as a methodological tool.

The term jurimetrics brings together many scientific works already existing or in gestation using mathematical and statistical methods to better understand legal phenomena. Its applications can be very varied, in terms of the field of application (branch of law or litigation studied), the “process” involved (legistics, legal or administrative practice outside litigation, pre-litigation phase, litigation, enforcement of decisions) or the material considered (court decisions, contracts, transactions, justice management software). Jurimetrics, Journal of the measurement of legal phenomena (in French Jurimétrie, Revue de la mesure des phénomènes juridiques), publishes articles related to jurimetrics, whether they propose results or develop a reflection.

This collective work project addresses the question of the encounter between contemporary African art, new media and intermediality from a creative point of view. It attempts to rethink this encounter in the light of media ondines. The contributions invited in this call for papers require a multidisciplinary approach, in order to better question the mutations that characterise contemporary African artistic creation. We are particularly interested in articles that broaden the aesthetic and temporal categories through which contemporary art, new media and intermediality are traditionally understood.

Since the 1970s, environmental issues have continued to grow. Indeed, we have moved from a localized perception of environmental damage to a global understanding of the risks associated with climate change and their impacts on socio-ecosystems. In order to better respond to the challenges and stakes of the environmental crisis that is impacting us, it seems appropriate to share and make known the experiences and theories developed from different continents, cultures and geographies in order to enrich our object of study. In this regard, this Congress, which will be held from October 23 to 27, 2023 in Costa Rica, proposes to offer perspectives on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies on environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity, resilience, global health, payments for environmental services, etc.

Technologies of Ubiquity in the Visual Arts, 19th-21st centuries

The international symposium Télé—Visions brings together a body of recent work on the influence of emission, transmission and reception technologies in the visual arts and visual culture, from the 19^th century to the present. Beyond the medium of television itself, the plural “tele-visions” refers to the variety of remote viewing and image transmission techniques which, from semaphores to wireless telegraphy and up to fiber optics and contemporary networks, have configured new models for the circulation and transmission of images. Dialoguing with the history of science and technology as well as with media archaeology, the contributors to the conference will explore broad topics such as the joint evolution of perceptual regimes and remote transmission techniques, the modalities of “prosthetic vision,” the material effects of image transmission and the spatio-temporal issues inherent to network dynamics.

To respond to the IMC Leed 2024 theme, Crisis, we propose to study urban crisis in the Middle Ages as a lived experience, which was made through specific sensations, emotions and actions. In a multi-sessions panel, we propose to examine what is needed to build an experience of crisis, and what makes it so powerful. Importantly, this seminar aims to go beyond the denunciation-celebration axis that has so far tinged many a study on polygamy in cultural representations from the continent to explore polygamy in all its forms, including unofficial extra-marital relations implying tacit acceptance of polygamy (Boni, 139), and modes of expression.
