European Association for Urban History (EAUH) conference 2026
La session 70 “Sheltering the Displaced. Housing the ‘Other’ and the Making of the Post-war City”, organisée dans le cadre de la conférence de l’European Association for Urban History – City Networks in Europe and Beyond (Barcelone, du 2 au 5 septembre 2026) propose d’explorer comment les mouvements de population de l’après-guerre ont façonné les villes européennes à travers des politiques de logement destinées aux nouveaux migrants. Elle invite à réfléchir aux effets sociaux, politiques et spatiaux de ces politiques, ainsi qu’aux dynamiques d’intégration, de ségrégation et de transformation urbaine qui en ont découlé.

L’appel à contribution invite à analyser les questions liées à l’autochtonie et la colonialité dans les Amériques dans une perspective transaméricaine et transdisciplinaire. The evolution of market gardening and fruit trees is a rapidly expanding field of research, hence the need for in-depth studies to identify and maximize their positive impacts in disparate urban contexts (geographical and climatic) marked by often difficult conditions and particularly strong competition between different possible uses of resources. They play an essential socio-cultural role by reflecting important heritage, symbolic, and identity values. Finally, they bring local communities together around participatory and innovative projects involving citizens, public decision-makers, associations, and researchers.

African perspectives on the return of “things”
À l’ordre du jour des agendas politiques et médiatiques internationaux depuis quelques années, la question de la restitution des biens culturels africains spoliés pendant les siècles précédents continue d’être appréhendée majoritairement sous un prisme occidentalo-centré. Au cœur des échanges et discussions qui alimentent ce processus s’invitent des thématiques axées sur les cadres juridiques des pays détenteurs, leurs définitions de l’« objet d’art » ou de l’« artefact », de même que sur l’universalité du musée de type occidental. Les entités disputées se trouvent être aussi au centre de réalités complexes, de motivations et de dynamiques se déployant au sein des sociétés africaines, et qui sont méconnues dans leurs lieux d’exil.

The joy of teaching languages and through languages
A tribute to Michèle Valentin
This special issue of Les Langues Modernes pays tribute to Michèle Valentin by celebrating the joy of teaching languages and through languages. At a time when teaching is often associated with difficulty, the aim is to highlight its positive dimension as a source of passion, creativity and fulfilment. Language teaching—whether of widely spoken, lesser-taught or regional languages—elicits deep emotions and often involves strong personal commitment. Teaching throughlanguages (CLIL/EMILE, DNL, ETLV…) likewise fosters creativity and wonder through intercultural and disciplinary mediation. Contributions may explore positive emotions in relation to learning, teacher-student relationships, peer collaboration or pedagogical innovation. The issue will welcome both research articles and practice-based accounts, from early childhood to higher education.

Actors and representations of the safeguard of nature in mountain areas: a global perspective (late 18th – early 21st century)
The aim of this international scientific conference is to examine the progressive integration of the environmental protection theme into the several mountain ranges of the Earth, between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 21st century, concluding in 2022, the International Year of Mountains. By selecting a global perspective, it encourages a decentring of observation points, which in turn brings to light not only the diversity of trajectories but also the possible (direct or indirect) circulation of knowledge, materials, practices and individuals in the different mountain ranges.

Social margins, statistical margins and spatial margins in the Indian Ocean
In the second half of 2027, Tsingy plans to publish an issue on social margins and marginal practices in the Indian Ocean. This issue will address the question of measurement as well as the mutual influences between norms and margins, questioning in particular the role of margins (social, spatial, or statistical) in the transformation of social norms.

The painting of Eugène Delacroix: materials, practices and restorations

Recent publications and exhibitions have all contributed to deepening our understanding of Eugène Delacroix’s practices. At the same time, the last decade has witnessed numerous restorations of his large-scale canvases and decors kept in museums, churches, and national institutions. These interventions, highlighting a solid coordination between the different actors involved in the preservation of Delacroix heritage, have produced a multitude of observations and much material knowledge. Number 62 of Technè will offer the opportunity to take into consideration the new information gathered from this activity, to identify research prospects and cross-reference these discoveries with the artist's immense written legacy (journal, correspondence, articles) as well as with other publications dealing with the history of collectors, and the art and restoration market in Paris in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Post-truth, fake news, infodemic, virality, soft power, hybrid warfare, political technology, influencer... New expressions intermingle with old ones – suggestion, propaganda, disinformation, manipulation, censorship – to describe the alarming evolution of various manipulative practices. These new terms and warnings often obscure the continuity of older practices and their shared origins. By adopting an integrative and multidisciplinary approach, this conference brings together researchers studying practices of influence across different times and places, with a shared commitment to historicising these phenomena.

L’histoire des rapports franco-autochtones entre 1534 et 1763 est marquée par une dynamique complexe d’échanges culturels, de transferts de savoirs et de reconfigurations identitaires. Sous le Régime Français, les pratiques d’imitation, d’adaptation et d’appropriation ont joué un rôle central dans les interactions entre Autochtones et Européens, mais aussi dans les relations intra-européennes et entre les différentes communautés des Premières Nations. Urban temporalities and rythms in Northwestern Europe (14th-17th centuries)
This conference will allow us to grasp the measure of time in medieval and premodern urban societies, as well as the perception of its passage. The aim of the colloquium is to observe city dwellers caught in the interplay of multiple temporalities that shape their sense of belonging or exclusion from various social groups, such as merchant and artistic circles, as well as family and intimate networks. Crisis and the sense of acceleration that can arise from a situation of unrest or a sudden event are other factors that influence individuals’ perception of time. In short, the question will be how the inhabitants of cities (as well as those who pass through them) inhabit the present moment, a question that allows us to reconsider the notion of “presentism” developed by François Hartog, originally conceived for the contemporary period.

1995: a “Black Box” for Reflections on Contemporary Japan

The year 1995 is often regarded as a turning point in the history of contemporary Japan. The country suffered two traumatic shocks in rapid succession: the Kobe earthquake in January and the Tokyo subway sarin attacks carried out by the Aum Shinrikyō cult in March. It was also struck by an economic crisis following the collapse of the speculative bubble in the early 1990. Thirty years later, this issue brings together transdisciplinary perspectives—from case and comparative studies to longue durée analysis—to present a renewed understanding of 1995, reassess its importance and singularity, and confirm or challenge previous work.

Temporary Migration (20th –21st Centuries): Spaces, Regulation, and Imaginaries
Recent migration research has recently adopted intersectional approaches by disputing age categories, Gender, and class, which have long been pivotal to the study of migrant populations. Despite being the focus of sustained scholarly inquiry, these domains continue to exhibit notable limitations particularly in areas where migrants navigate conditions of “illegality” and where state authorities frequently respond with various forms of repression, including violence, detention, stop-and-search practices, and police surveillance. This symposium will thus serve as a platform for scholars and practitioners to exchange methodological insights into short-range mobility and to explore innovative approaches to researching migration contexts. Furthermore, it will provide a critical space to examine how funding agencies shape, influence, and/or potentially limit migration research agendas.

À l’ère du numérique et de l’intelligence artificielle, le dialogue entre droit et littérature se renouvelle, ouvrant de nouvelles pistes de réflexion sur la justice, la normativité et la créativité. Ce colloque se veut un espace interdisciplinaire réunissant juristes, littéraires, philosophes, sociologues et chercheurs intéressés par ces enjeux.
