Changes in media law in Africa in the digital age and artificial intelligence

Towards a history of the economies of sub-Saharan Africa, from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century

Revue « Afriques. Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire »

In this issue, we wish to focus on historical approaches - in the broadest sense of the term - which aim to understand economic mechanisms in relation to political, cultural and social phenomena within African societies and in the context of their times, without necessarily addressing their potential links with the present. We wish authors to focus on economic processes that were internal to societies, including interactions with external institutions (and especially imperial institutions), provided that these interactions shed light on the workings of African societies. Our goal is also to consider the documentary challenges facing historians.

    Eid: The geopolitics of sheep

The sheep trade, in and around the Muslim world, is spectacular in terms of its scale, its impact on people's daily lives and its territorial impact. The Eid-al-Adha is its most important periodic event. The livestock trade and the festival of sacrifice are undergoing multifactorial and multiscalar reconfigurations that are the result of several major congruent movements. We need to look at these social phenomena in their global dimension, as a little-known embodiment of globalisation that requires a comparative international and multi-sited approach, revealing deepening social and spatial polarisations at the local level and a complex ‘geopolitics of sheep’ at the international level.

Borders in all their states: A Multidisciplinary Perspective

Revue Passerelles SHS - 4e numéro

Borders were initially studied by the humanities and social sciences as geographical and physical phenomena. More recently, due to “the evolution of transport and communication technologies, the dynamics and scale of economic exchanges and also the political recognition of a greater interdependence of the world system”, revisiting the concept has become necessary. Now regarded as a multifaceted object of study and subject to constant evolution, the concept of the border can be as much spatial as it is symbolic or social, objectively delineated or a subjective metaphor for social space.

    The Archaeology of Conflicts

This issue of Bellica journal aims to bring together articles dealing with the archaeology of conflicts in a broad chronological perspective ranging from the earliest periods of time to the 20th century. The goal of the collection is to reflect upon and to trace the development of a trend that began three decades ago in the field of archeology and which has witness unprecedented growth since then. The increase in the number of archaeological sites corresponds to a strong institutional and social demands. This is particularly the case when it comes to the conflicts of the twentieth century, but in fact the entire chronological spectrum is concerned by this new trend. The archaeology of conflicts has also greatly contributed to the development of war studies in the broadest sense of the term.

    Circus Arts without Borders

For a world history of the circus from Antiquity to the present day

For the past twenty years or so, the history of the circus has benefited from an undeniable scientific dynamism. While the circus is essentially an international art form, until now its history has mainly been written from a national perspective. The aim of this conference is to decompartmentalise these historiographies by inviting researchers in history and, more broadly, in the arts and the social sciences (performing arts, art history, sociology, anthropology, etc.), as well as those involved in the artistic and cultural world, to combine their approaches.

    Egology: what “I” means

    Revue « Itinéraires »

The aim of this publication of the journal Itinéraires is to extend the reflections of the multidisciplinary seminar entitled ‘‘I: from the Middle Ages to the 21st century”, which was held in 2023-2024. This publication highlight the different possible approaches to the expression of the first person, in order to emphasise that there is a vast field of study, which could be called ‘‘egology’’, transcending disciplines and methodologies in order to shed light on the uses of the pronoun I. We combine the perspectives of the Lyon research seminar with those of the journal Itinéraires. We propose to orientate our exploration around four main axes that retain the generalist, transdisciplinary and transhistorical approach of the initial project.

The social mechanisms as seen through the lens of social networks

    Volume 76 / 2026 - Issue 1

L’Année sociologique is inviting contributions for an issue on the theme of social mechanisms as seen through the lens of social networks, to be published in the Spring of 2026. The aim of this call for papers is to take stock of the use of social network analysis in understanding various social mechanisms in all their diversity, particularly collective ones, and their consequences, whether intentional or not, by bringing into dialogue and articulating the micro, meso and macro levels. It thus focuses on the impact of relational infrastructures on social mechanisms in the broadest sense, and aims to give visibility to research that sheds new light on the subject.

    Desires in the Art Worlds

    Tensions, Dynamics, and Reconfigurations

This conference explores the multiple dimensions of desire in contemporary art worlds, examining its forms, tensions, and implications. It aims to rethink the role of desire as a driving force of creation, the artist’s condition in the face of inequalities and violence, the place of desire in artistic work, the norms that shape desired or excluded bodies, and the practices that seek to frame or regulate these dynamics. By engaging with these perspectives, the conference invites participants to reflect on the relevance of desire as an interpretative key and to envision new representations for art and its actors.
