  The International Week of Medieval Studies of Estella tackles for the first time Jewish communities in the Western Middle Ages. Studies on this issue has generated a large historiographical output relating to social, cultural, economic and political life across Europe. This edition puts the focus on the profiles, the light and shade, the countenances of these communities. Starting with the history of the Jewish culture, its physical and mental integration into the medieval worlds, its presence in the lifestyle of the period and the images that were produced and still remain in the collective cultural heritage. An exercise of history and memory on the narrative of the Sephardic exile will open the sessions consecrated to the forms of integration and of exclusion of these communities and their material and cultural manifestations.

  Royal archives

  Family archives or archives of the kingdom?

  Parmi les différents thèmes développés dans le programme « Archives de famille », cette rencontre s’intéresse à des archives à première vue inattendues : les archives royales. Si, à la fin du Moyen Âge, leur condition d’archives du « royaume » semble évidente, c’est seulement après avoir subi un long processus d’évolution intimement lié à la définition du pouvoir royal. Sans être explicite, complet ou linéaire, le passage d’une catégorie d’archive à l’autre retiendra l’attention de ces journées. Seront ainsi analysés cinq modèles différents pris dans le paysage occidental européen. La perspective comparative est ici revendiquée, de même que la valorisation du point de vue des historiens, archivistes et philologues.
