Growing learning collectives in residential subdivision town
Within the framework of the research program CAPA.CITY, the winterschool is organized around the question of how to establish learning collectives around citizens, professionals and authorities that are concerned by spatial transformations taking place in their daily environment. Through a location–based experimental learning approach the participants of the winterschool are invited to work on the residential subdivision town of Viby, Denmark.

APAD conference panel 2018 (Euro-African association for the anthropology of social change and development)
Ce panel se propose d’analyser la contribution des migrations internationales dans la reconfiguration des dynamiques de citoyenneté dans les Afriques méditerranéenne et subsaharienne notamment en : interrogeant la transformation des initiatives citoyennes des migrants, au niveau individuel et collectif ; interrogeant les pratiques au niveau local des migrants en articulation et/ou en opposition avec les attentes des acteurs politiques.

Diasporas, solidarity and the welcome of exiles
APAD conference panel 2018 (Euro-African association for the anthropology of social change and development)
Ce panel interroge la nature méconnue de l’engagement des associations de migrants dans l’accueil d’exilé·e·s, et ses conséquences en matière d’appartenances communautaires, citoyennes ou militantes. Les propositions de communication peuvent explorer les multiples facettes de la notion d’accueil selon trois axes principaux : logiques d’engagement des associations de migrants dans l’accueil des exilé·e·s ; recompositions des solidarités collectives ethnico-nationales ; crises et diaspora : les migrants face à de nouvelles injonctions.

APAD conference panel 2018 (Euro-African association for the anthropology of social change and development)
Ce panel du colloque APAD se centre sur l’étude empirique et « par le bas » (Bayard 1981, 2008) des personnes confrontées, sur le continent africain, aux politiques occidentales de gestion des migrations et aux institutions qui les mettent en œuvre. En s’ancrant dans les vécus et les pratiques des personnes africaines en migration, leurs stratégies d’action, leurs ruses, leurs capacité de résilience et de résistances, leurs activismes, les communication attendues pour ce panel s’inscriront dans une approche anthropologique permettant de comprendre les effets et contres-effets de ces politiques migratoires promues par l’Occident et de l’évolution de la figure du migrant en Occident sur les pratiques sociales africaines. Les communications permettront également d’éclairer d’autres enjeux liés aux réalités africaines notamment géopolitiques (situations de « crise », guerres d’usure, guerres sales,…) qui permettent d’expliquer pourquoi et comment les personnes se positionnent face à ces politiques et programmes de gestion des migrations. Ce panel s’inscrit donc dans une anthropologie non-normative à vocation empirique, dans une anthropologie politique dynamiste (Balandier, 2007).

Dans ce panel, nous essayerons d'articuler deux grandes thématiques. La première examine le lien entre pratiques de développement et migrations. La deuxième étudiera la modalité de négociation des droits des migrants en fonction de leur appartenance.

Return migration, social remittances and transnational citizenship practices
Si les problématiques de « l’assimilation », du « multiculturalisme » ou de « l’intégration » des migrants dans la société d’installation ont occupé, jusqu’à la fin des années 1980, la recherche en sciences sociales sur le fait migratoire, les transnational studies se sont présentées comme une « nouvelle » approche analytique, capable de désigner la capacité des migrants à tisser et à maintenir des relations économiques, politiques et socioculturelles liant leurs sociétés d’installation et d’origine. Ainsi, le migrant conceptualisé comme « transmigrant » (Glick Schiller et. al., 1995) permet de percevoir d’autres dynamiques engendrées par les migrations en portant l’attention également sur les transferts sociaux (Levitt, 1998) et politiques (Ostergaard-Nielsen, 2003; Collyer, 2014). Au travers de l’étude des pratiques transnationales des migrants ce sont aussi les implications pour les individus et communautés non migrants qui ont fait l’objet d’un intérêt croissant (Levitt and Lamba-Nieves, 2013).

West African migration and development in the light of the current European refugee crisis
Focusing on West African migration to Europe, there are new developments that are not discussed yet and have to be reflected on. European migration policy and the situation of West African migrants in Europe are shaped by the refugee crisis of 2015/16. More than ever the European discourse on migration focuses on migration management and restriction. The discourse emphasizes on fighting the root causes of migration, which should prevent migrants from leaving their West African home countries. Many questions are unanswered yet: How does the refugee crisis from 2015/2016 affect West African migration? How does European migration policy towards West Africa change in light of the refugee crisis? Are there any effects on the development of West Africa.

Conférence APAD
L'émergence de la dernière « crise migratoire » invite à engager et à repenser de manière critique le nexus entre migrations, développement et citoyennetés. Partout et de tout temps, la mobilité humaine et les migrations ont façonné les sociétés. La conférence pose comme point de départ la relation complexe entre migrations et développement pour élargir notre compréhension des migrations contemporaines et de leurs liens à la fois avec les processus et pratiques de développement, de la citoyenneté, du changement social, d'aide et d'intervention humanitaire. Notre objectif est de comprendre comment ces migrations produisent de nouvelles conceptions et de nouvelles pratiques de la citoyenneté et leurs implications, pour les groupes de migrants, pour les communautés d'accueil ainsi que pour les politiques publiques, dans les pays d’origine, d’accueil et de transit.

This issue aims to attract further attention to the challenging task of social sustainability in suburban areas. Rethinking suburbia entails both an analysis of possible improvement measures oriented towards the existing stock of buildings and the creation of new models of settlements in suburban locations. Such initiatives usually assume that, by means of a high quality urban design and planning, it is possible to assure the existence of both place-making and liveability in a specific context. However, it is the social response of residents that is the most significant proof of the success of a renewal initiative. This thematic issue calls for a critical reflection on both brand-new and pre-existing developments. Is it possible to promote liveability in a suburban environment?

The ‘Island Cities and Urban Archipelagos’ conference explores the culture, economy, and politics of towns and cities based on islands worldwide. It considers common attributes of island cities, the influence of island status on urban development, and how and why different island cities have developed in different ways. Throughout history, islands have been sites of urban development. Physical separation from the mainland, spatial limitations, and maritime tradition facilitate transport of products and ideas, defence infrastructure, construction of social capital, consolidation of power, formation of cultures, and concentration of population.

Call for papers: Gender in the European Town, Medieval to Modern
As places which fostered and disseminated key social, economic, political and cultural developments, historically towns have been central to the creation of gendered identities and the transmission of ideas across local, national and transnational boundaries. The Conference will be organised in three main strands. We encourage papers that address one of the strands, or proposals that cross the theme boundaries. They should also explore what influence gender has on the shape of towns themselves, as a force for change. We welcome local studies as well as more comparative approaches and encourage historiographical, theoretical and empirical considerations. -

Depuis le 13 mars 1911, l’administration pénitentiaire est rattachée au ministère de la Justice. La commémoration du centenaire de ce rattachement offre l’occasion de questionner les relations qu’entretient l’administration pénitentiaire (AP) avec les autres institutions du ministère de la Justice, avec les acteurs de l’État avec qui elle a un important lien structurel (ministères de la santé et de l’intérieur), et avec les collectivités territoriales. Au-delà de l’éclairage historique, ce colloque se propose d’examiner le positionnement actuel de l’administration pénitentiaire ainsi que ses perspectives d’évolution au regard notamment des expériences étrangères. -

The aims of the Roskilde International Summer School are threefold: 1. to help students grasp and critically engage with the notions of identity and interculturality and see how they are related; 2. to get to know various research methods that can help students to work within cultural and social complexity; 3. to discuss their own research topics and to get to test various research tools that can help them to move on in/improve their research. The Summer School is meant to be transdisciplinary, and the target group is PhD students from all disciplinary backgrounds who are especially interested in methodologies related to this field of study. -

Et pourtant, ce sont bien des hommes qui font d'une prison ce qu'elle est, à travers leurs idées ou leurs rêves, leurs contraintes et leurs stratégies, leur travail ou leur résistance. C'est pourquoi un établissement pénitentiaire, comme tout bâtiment, ne correspond jamais à ce que l'on en attendait, il n'est jamais la simple réalisation d'une idée. Comprendre ce qu'est une prison suppose donc de suivre le processus complexe de son émergence. Il faut, en particulier, saisir comment s’articulent les différentes logiques en jeu à toutes les étapes de sa conception et les décalages qui s’introduisent, à chaque fois, entre le souhait et la réalité et, plus précisément, entre l’utopie et le projet (la prison idéale), entre le projet et la construction (la prison réelle) et entre la construction et les usages (la prison habitée). -
