  Etymological Theories and Practice in Ancient and Byzantine Greece

  Third Etygram Conference

  This international conference, to be held in Thessaloniki in November 2021 aims to attract researchers, mainly philologists, linguists and philosophers interested in ancient practices of etymologizing in Ancient Greek and Byzantine literature. It is promoted by the International Association ETYGRAM devoted to the study of indigenous (or “emic”) ancient Greek etymologies and follows two editions in 2016 and 2018.

  IVe Rencontre internationale des jeunes historiens du droit

  Il s’agira d’étudier l’application du droit romain dans le territoire grec, sa rencontre et son éventuelle interaction avec les institutions juridiques, mais aussi politiques, sociales et économiques grecques. Comme le suggère le titre de la Rencontre, seront préférées les propositions provenant des chercheurs (au moins docteurs ou doctorants) ayant moins de 40 ans d’âge. Les langues acceptées sont l’anglais, le français, l’allemand et l’italien.

  Droit byzantin et post-byzantin

  Troisième rencontre internationale des jeunes historiens du droit grec

  Organisée par la Société grecque d'histoire du droit (SGHD : http://greeklegalhistory.com) et soutenue par l'université Aristote de Thessalonique, cette rencontre vise à renforcer la recherche des jeunes spécialistes d'histoire du droit grec. À la suite des deux premières rencontres, concernant le droit de la Grèce ancienne, celle de l'année prochaine est consacrée au droit byzantin et post-byzantin. La troisième rencontre se déroulera à Thessalonique, au Centre des études byzantines de l'université Aristote de Thessalonique, du 29 septembre au 2 octobre 2011.

  Religions et politique dans les Orients d'Europe (XIVe-XXe siècle)

  The goal of this conference is to explore a number of aspects of the relationship between the religious phenomenon and politics through the historical framework of political developments in what progressively will become, through interaction, the Orients of Europe, i.e. Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well as the Eastern Mediterranean, an area so unorthodox and difficult to examine in terms of essentialist definitions. It is no accident that Samuel Huntington believed that what we call the ‘Orthodox East’ does not form a part of the West, but rather a sui generis encounter between Christianity and Islam at the borders of Europe. This theoretical scheme is not overturned by drawing the borders of Europe a little further to the East, as many believe, but by historicizing the issue of the relationship between religion and politics in the given geographical region through the comparative prism of what was occurring during the same period in Western Europe.
