A Dialogue Between Anthropology, Geography and History
PhD students from the XXXIV cycle of the joint PhD Programme in Historical, Geographical, Anthropological Studies (University of Padova, Ca' Foscari Venice, Verona) are happy to invite you to their conference, titled "Crises and Infrastructures: Responses to Change Between Materiality and Immateriality. A Dialogue Between Anthropology, Geography and History". We will be exploring the interactions between various examples of Crises and Infrastructural response, trying to push for an interdisciplinary dialogue. We aim to reflect not only on the role of infrastructures as means of problem-solving, but also on the varied outcomes of critical moments. This conference seeks to reflect on the relationship existing between private gun ownership and the processes of imposition (or re-imposition) of State legitimacy in peacetime as much as during or in the aftermath of armed conflicts. It intends to do so specifically by addressing how the process of modernization and its ensuing tendency to codification and the world wars and their long shadows have had an impact on three aspects of these processes: institutional regulations on civilian possession of firearms from above; juridical debate on limits and rights of State control; practices and culture of gun ownership on the ground.

Children on the move from the 20th to the 21st century
A biopolitics perspective
Migrant children are often at the crossroads of conflicting priorities related to local and global issues (conflict, displacement, poverty, (under)development). Throughout history, states, organisations, institutions, and communities have tried to manage and control migrants and migratory processes. While the latter topic has been the subject of extensive research, the study of child migration lags behind. This workshop aims to address this gap by adopting Foucault’s theoretical framework of biopolitics – a control apparatus exerted over a population – to the case of children.

Italy Facing Terrorism: Political Parties, Institutions, Society, and Public Opinion (1969-1988)
Italian Political Parties Facing Terrorism (1969-1988)
Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions vis-à-vis stragismo, subversive plots, right-wing and left-wing terrorism will be under scrutiny, together with their impact on society and institutions. The Organizing Committee encourages studies that also examine minor political parties.The Organizing Committee invites scholars of different disciplines interested in the topic topropose papers on Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions in front of:- stragismo and subversive plots against Italian Republic; origin, development, and social consensus of left-wing armed struggle; the main political changes of the period (e.g., the crisis of center-left governments, the 1974 referendum, the 1975 and 1976 elections, the governments of national solidarity, the end of the Christian-democratic centrality); the dangers of right-wing terrorism; the emergency legislation; the exit strategies from terrorism.

Seventy years of movement of persons in Europe, from Europe, to Europe (1945-2015)
Movement of persons has been a key feature in the whole history of European integration, and the time has come for historians to discuss and draw some conclusions on its evolving conceptions and practical applications, placing both of them inthe wider context of the social and demographic transformationof Europe and the political and economic narrative of continental integration.

Université d'été Padova 2014
L’université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne et l’Università degli Studi di Padova s’associent pour organiser une université d’été. La thématique retenue pour cette manifestation scientifique est : Inventio / Transmissio : la dialectique du neuf et de l'ancien dans la création littéraire (du Moyen Âge aux romantismes). Volontairement large, elle permettra de faire se rencontrer des spécialistes de périodes différentes et d’aires linguistiques et culturelles variées. Il s’agit d'en interroger les actualisations (textuelle, générique, historique, critique), selon des configurations propres, à différentes époques et dans différentes littératures. L’université d’été aura lieu à Padoue du 7 au 11 juillet 2014, dans les locaux de l’université. Elle est ouverte à 14 jeunes chercheurs (doctorants et post-doctorants) qui seront encadrés par une dizaine d’enseignants-chercheurs confirmés.

At the origins of the Euro-Med Partnership
Europe, the Mediterranean and Italy from the Second Oil Shock to the Barcelona Conference
The Conference will investigate how the 1980-1995 period, often considered a sort of lost time in Euro-Mediterranean relations, prepared this move. In particular, it will focus on major political, socio-economic and human-cultural trends in the Mediterranean region, the main aim being to properly contextualize the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, to overcome the separation between political-strategic, economic and human-cultural dimensions of regional dynamics and to evaluate the impact that migration flows and policies made on the complex of bilateral and multilateral relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Les zones humides méditerranéennes hier et aujourd’hui
Le groupe d'histoire des zones humides organise les 20, 21 et 22 septembre son quatrième colloque international. Le thème retenue cette année est « Les zones humides méditerranéennes hier et aujourd’hui ». Des échanges anciens avec l'Université de Padoue ont permis de faire émerger un partenariat durable qui explique que cette année, le groupe d'histoire des zones humides ait fait le choix de tenir son colloque en Italie. -

Les zones humides méditerranéennes hier et aujourd’hui
Le groupe d'Histoire des zones humides et l'Université de Padoue organise à Padoue le quatrième colloque international du groupe. Le colloque qui se veut pluridisciplinaire, sera organisé autour des thématiques suivantes : 1. vivre avec ou dans des zones humides méditerranéennes hier et aujourd’hui. 2. Sauvegarde de l’environnement et fluctuations spatiales et paysagères en zones humides. 3. Les enjeux actuels de la gestion et du développement des zones humides méditerranéennes. 4. Zones humides et santé en contexte méditerranéen. -

Les Nations unies et la construction européenne dans une perspective historique
Le processus d’intégration européenne s’est déroulé dans un contexte international caractérisé par la présence d’un réseau d’organisations de coopération multilatérale, avec lesquelles les Communautés européenne ont interagi depuis les années cinquante, en concluant de nombreux accords de collaboration. Or, si l’interaction avec des organismes régionaux tels que l’OECE/OCDE, le Conseil d’Europe ou l’OTAN, a été étudiée de façon relativement approfondie, les relations avec le système des Nations Unies avec son ensemble d’agences spécialisées, de Fonds, programmes et instituts, sont beaucoup moins connues. -

L’objectif de ce colloque est de placer les crises de la Méditerranée dans un contexte plus vaste qui prenne en compte les changements globaux des dernières décennies du XX siècle. Si les années 1980 ont été la dernière décennie de ce « court XXe siècle » dominé par le conflit est-ouest, mais aussi le début d’une nouvelle ère, les années 1970 ont représenté un moment crucial à plusieurs points de vue : c’est à cette époque que les pays du Sud cherchent à modifier les règles des rapports économiques les liant au Nord industrialisé, c’est alors que les pays membres de la CEE s’engagent dans un parcours visant à affirmer leur identité et leur rôle sur le plan international, et c’est finalement le moment où se redéfinissent les relations entre l’Occident et les pays arabes afin de faire face à de nouveaux défis. Il est donc désormais possible de lancer de nouvelles pistes de recherche visant à explorer l’évolution économique, politique et militaire des années 1970. -

Methodological and interpretative issues
One of the main characteristics of Roman settlement consists in the implementation of a series of interventions aiming at preparing specific areas for cultivation and making land divisions and distributions. The most important and characteristic feature of these operations is the realization of centuriation systems, that have often radically modified the landscape and agrarian morphology of the countryside. The aim of this conference is to define a methodological protocol of common lines of research on this subject, in order to assign specific roles to the different sources and research tools. The conference will also provide opportunities to deepen a number of themes concerning historical aspects of this phenomenon, particularly that of the continuity or discontinuity of the centuriation systems.
