Digital Humanities – Opportunities and Risks. Connecting Libraries and Research
Digital Humanities is widely understood to mean the use of computer-aided and data-driven research methods and techniques in both the arts and humanities. Some examples of this are critical editions, lexicographical projects, as well as the historical reception of large-scale collections, whether of visual objects or literary textual corpora. But intrinsic to the digitally-enabled arts and humanities are the holdings and collections offered up to researchers by libraries and other cultural heritage and memory institutions. In addition academic libraries also have an integrating role to play between the researcher, the interested public and the collections not only of libraries, but also of museums and archives especially, where strong regional cooperation or collaborations across borders have been established. Essential to this for this role are services that present appropriately curated digitized materials and provide access to them.

Périodisations et temporalités dans un contexte global
Le forum Transregionale Studien et la Max Weber Stiftung lancent un appel à communications pour participer à un colloque international de trois jours à Berlin sur le thème de des périodisations historiques envisagées dans une perspective transrégionale. Cette rencontre est co-organisée et conçue par Thomas Maissen (IHA), Barbara Mittler (Centrum für Transkulturelle Studien de l’université de Heidelberg) et Pierre Monnet (Institut franco-allemand de sciences historiques et sociales de Francfort). Elle débutera par une conférence inaugurale le 7 décembre et durera jusqu’au 9 décembre au fil de plusieurs sections thématiques.

Quel que soit le système universitaire dans lequel on a fait sa thèse, les jeunes chercheurs.es partagent de part et d’autre du Rhin un certain nombre de questions, de doutes et d’angoisses, qui portent tant sur les aspects institutionnels que sur les choix très concrets à faire : doit-on privilégier la carte de l’internationalisation de son parcours ? Comment arriver à construire un nouveau sujet de recherche ? Quelles sont les possibilités structurelles qui s’offrent en France, en Allemagne ou ailleurs ?

DramaNet Conference V
Rereading Aristotle, Dionysius of Halicarnassus, and Demetrius through the lens of contemporary narratology provides scholarship with a potentially fruitful perspective for investigating the relationship between historical narrative and other forms of literature. In particular, the reflections of Dionysius and Demetrius on narrative style at the micro-level, as well as those of Aristotle on history and tragedy as ways of representing knowledge at the macro-level, might enable historians and comparatists to focus on the question of how pan-European historical narratives are related to the drama of their times.

Un siècle et demi de présence diplomatique : la France en Allemagne depuis 1871
Cette journée d'étude sera l'occasion de retracer un siècle et demi de présence diplomatique française en Allemagne depuis l'unification du Reich. Les lieux de cette présence – Berlin tout d'abord mais aussi Bonn et Munich –, les acteurs et les évolutions des pratiques diplomatiques seront au cœur de la réflexion. Mettant l'accent sur le quotidien des émissaires français, l'expérience de l'immersion en terre allemande et le travail interculturel qu'induit le travail diplomatique, cette journée s'incrit dans le renouveau contemporain de l'histoire de la diplomatie. Elle se déroulera dans un cadre permettant un dialogue, ouvert au public, entre chercheurs et praticiens de la diplomatie.

CLARe 3 – Corpora for language and aging research
The conference is dedicated to discussing major issues in language and aging research. The focus is on projects and research questions taking their point of departure in empirical approaches and the use of innovative methods to gather and analyze authentic material and samples of language data from older adults. Also, the subject of language in later life is deeply embedded in interdisciplinary contexts.

The development of art history as a discipline during the 19th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19th century.

Un lieu de mémoire de la guerre froide
Ce colloque se propose notamment d’interroger l’écho de ce discours : « Le monde entier » a-t-il vraiment porté le regard vers Berlin ? Partant de Berlin « ville du front », nous entendons élargir le champ d’observation à l’Allemagne de l’Ouest et à tous les pays voisins de Berlin-Ouest : il s’agit d’une part de saisir le pont aérien en tant que lieu de mémoire transnational de la guerre froide ; d’autre part, par le regard porté de l’extérieur, de tenter de répondre à la question de la centralité de Berlin dans le conflit Est-Ouest, que la presse et la recherche présupposent généralement comme acquise.

Sociétés en évolution : Le monde dans lequel nous vivons
Le forum de recherche vise à favoriser l'échange interdisciplinaire et la collaboration entre des chercheurs français et allemands. Des chercheurs œuvrant dans différents domaines incluant l'histoire, la sociologie, l'économie, la science politique, le droit, la philosophie, les mathématiques, les statistiques, l'anthropologie et la littérature sont invités à analyser et à évaluer conjointement différents aspects des changements culturels, écologiques, économiques et sociaux. Il considérera divers sujets et questions tels que : Quels sont les changements fondamentaux qui affectent nos sociétés aujourd’hui ? Comment pouvons-nous décrire, mesurer et comparer de manière adéquate les changements sociaux, économiques et environnementaux ?

Form und Leben. Morphologie als Paradigma zwischen Philosophie und Wissenschaft
Tagung des DFG-Netzwerks “Morphologie als Paradigma” in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZfL Berlin
Die Tagung eröffnet die Forschung zum Begriff der Morphologie im Rahmen des DFG-Netzwerks »Morphologie als Paradigma«. Im Horizont der namensgebenden These werden hier zur ersten Orientierung kultur- und naturphilosophische sowie poetologische und lebenswissenschaftliche Verwendungen von morphologischen Modellen ins Gespräch gebracht. Dabei soll zum einen der Modellfunktion der Morphologie bei Ernst Cassirer, zum anderen der Frage nach Parallelen bis in die moderne funktionsbiologische Disziplin Raum gegeben werden. Letztlich steht damit in kritischer Auseinandersetzung auch zur Debatte, ob hier möglicherweise ein Ansatzpunkt zur Redefinition der Aufgaben und Methoden der Kulturphilosophie liegt.

Mai 2016 oder nach Vereinbarungeine/n wissenschaftliche/n Mitarbeiter/inin einer regelmäßigen Arbeitszeit von voraussichtlich 39 Stunden pro Woche,(zunächst befristet für 2 Jahre).Die Stelle kann auch in zwei Stellen mit der Hälfte der tariflichen Arbeitszeit geteilt werden, gegebenenfalls mit der Möglichkeit zur Promotion.

The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. This conference aspires to explore yet another, less studied dimension: the extent to which the historical study of art was also rooted in an intention to inform contemporary artistic production.

All the Beauty of the World. The European Market for non-European Artefacts (18th-20th century)
In the wake of the Western expansion, a fast growing number of non-European artefacts entered the European market. They initially made their way into princely cabinets of curiosities. Enabled by the forced opening and exploitation of more and more parts of the world and pushed by social and technological changes of the time, the 18th century brought a boom of the market of non-European artefacts in Europe. This came along with the emergence of a broader collecting culture and the development of a rich museumscape. This market and its development in terms of methods and places of exchange and monetary and ideological value of the objects are in the focus of an international symposium that will take place in October 2016 in Berlin.
