Sentiments, sensibilities and communities of emotion in early modernity
En dépit de l’histoire des émotions qui constitue aujourd’hui l’un des chantiers les plus prolifiques de l’histoire médiévale, et de l’histoire des sensibilités qui permet d’explorer les différentes traces et discours des cultures sensorielles des XIXe et XXe siècles, la recherche sur l’époque moderne demeure toujours méfiante à l’égard des « émotions ». Depuis le déclin de l’histoire des mentalités, les chercheurs explorent les pratiques et les représentations, mais hésitent toujours à penser en termes d’affects, de sentiments ou d’émotions.

Meetings, Conflicts, Exchanges: Mediterranean Space in the Middle Ages
Fernand Braudel writes in his The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II: “The Mediterrenean has no unity but that created by the movements of men, the relationships they imply, and the routes they follow” [1972: 276]. The position of the Mediterranean, at the intersection of three continents, has made it a vital location in these movements of men, women and children. These movements continue, sometimes with tragic consequences, to this day. In the Middle Ages, the meeting of peoples and cultures enabled the exchange of ideas, traditions, texts, languages, and things.

9th Forum mondial de médiation conference
L'évènement consiste à réunir pour la première fois des chercheurs et des praticiens investis dans deux champs de la médiation ordinairement séparés, celui des médiations interpersonnelles (sphère de gestion des conflits inter-‐individuels) et celui des médiations internationales (sphère de gestion des conflits socio-politiques intra ou inter-étatiques) dans un congrès scientifique au Canada. Ce congrès, co-organisé par le Centre de recherche en droit public de l'université de Montréal et par l'université du Luxembourg sous l'égide du Forum mondial de médiation (FMM) a pour thème : Regards croisés sur les médiations interpersonnelles et les médiations internationales.

Europe and North America from the 1960s to the present day
Après les premières vagues de revendications identitaires du tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles, puis de l’entre-deux-guerres, les années 1960 voient la renaissance et la multiplication des mouvements d’affirmation particulariste en Europe comme en Amérique du Nord. Nous nous limiterons ici aux espaces de la francophonie, qui offrent un vaste champ d’études cohérent, mais cela n’empêchera pas – elle sera bien au contraire encouragée – une mise en perspective grâce à l’étude succincte d’autres aires géographiques et civilisationnelles.

What kind of development for “the post-crisis city”?
Des grandes villes dans le monde ont connu des épisodes traumatiques de fortesampleurs, marquant durablement ces espaces et leurs populations. Ces événements, parfois sources de transformations majeures des zones touchées, peuvent également révéler ou se faire le relais de mécanismes de crise plus profonds. À travers quatre axes de discussion (morphologie et composition des nouveaux tissus urbains, fabrication de marges sociospatiales, moteurs et pratiques du développement économique, citadinité et pratiques urabines), le colloque propose d'aborder les conséquences de ces périodes traumatiques sur les dynamiques urbaines, en interrogeant le rôle de la crise et son importance entant que facteur de causalité des évolutions récentes qui marquent ces villes.

La présence européenne francophone a profondément modelé le visage des francophonies de l’Ouest ainsi que les représentations qu’elles se sont données d’elles-mêmes.

Maritime Ivories in Western Europe, 900-1500
In the history of carved ivories, maritime mammals have often been eclipsed by the elephant, considered as a nobler ivory to which walrus or whale ivory would only be a poor man's substitute. But this historiographical view is not without its shortcomings, as not only did walrus hunting play a significant role in the first European explorations toward the west, but the trade for those ivories went as far as the Islamic world and even the Far East. This session at the 52nd International Congress on Medieval Studies, sponsored by the National Museum of Scotland, aims to address the variety of questions posed by the maritime ivories: how the raw material was collected, how it was traded, the workshops that carved them and their specific symbolic value in medieval treasuries

Practices, Politics, and Policy in Premodern Societies (6th-17th Centuries)
Money is at once elusive and concrete. As a mode of economic exchange it exists within a relatively fixed playing field, with clearly delineated boundaries of benefits and costs. However, poor handling, bad advice, or even a bad turn at a game of chance can swallow money up in one fell swoop. The workshop will investigate this wide array of pre-capitalist, western and non-western contexts from the English Isles, Flanders, France, Germany, Italy, and China between the Middle Ages and Early Modern times.

Intitulé Essor de la vie culturelle au XXIe siècle : politiques, interventions et initiatives, ce colloque franco-québécois est né de constats dressés au sujet des effets et des retombées générées par les politiques culturelles qui ont été adoptées depuis les vingt-cinq dernières années, tant en France qu’au Québec ; constats qui sont parfois contradictoires sur la portée de celles-ci et qui traduisent les tensions sociales, ainsi que des mutations socioculturelles, politiques, économiques qui traversent la société.

African and Gypsy categorizations in France
The process of ethnicization in ordinary discourse
In France, Bulgarian and Romanian migrants identified as “Roma” and usually living in slums are regularly the targets of categorizations, of rejection and of xenophobic violence. Even though other immigrated populations, such as Africans, have been subject to this type of ostracism for some time, the spectre of racism and xenophobia has spread under the effect of the diffusion of a number of political and media discourses. Whether coming from the right or the left of the political spectrum, these differentialist discourses stem from the highest level of the State, and have been regularly relayed by the media, thus legitimizing their presence within the French public space.
