IAMCR 2015
The Gender and Communication Section invites submissions for its open session at next year’s IAMCR, held in Montreal, Canada, from 12-16 July 2015. The section seeks research that balances theory and practice, and explores the relationship between gender, media and communication. In recent years sessions have included papers on the Internet, television, film, journalism, magazines, violence, queer theory, media production, reception, advertising, representation, the Global Media Monitoring Project, human rights, discrimination, elections, the body, HIV/AIDS, development, pop culture, virtual identity, social change, and consumption. In keeping with our philosophy of inclusivity, we welcome contributions without regard to empirical, theoretical, disciplinary or philosophical perspectives. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 9 February 2015.

Ce colloque permettra de dresser un bilan de la Convention dix ans après son adoption et d'identifier les défis qui devront être pris en compte par les États Parties au cours des prochaines années, en particulier face aux enjeux actuels et aux référentiels pluriels qui remettent en cause les politiques culturelles en vigueur. L'événement impliquera des intervenants nationaux et internationaux, favorisera la rencontre d'universitaires établis et en émergence, de décideurs publics et d'acteurs de la société civile qui, depuis 15 ans, collaborent à la mise en œuvre de cet instrument juridique international.

Interrroger le religieux : regards alter/natifs
Colloque jeunes chercheurs AECSSR-UQÀM
Depuis la fondation du département de sciences des religions de l’UQÀM, l’approche religiologique s’affaire à jeter un regard non-confessionnel sur le religieux et ses manifestations au sein des cultures et des sociétés. La recherche résultant de cette approche tend à dépasser le statu quo académique pour s’intéresser autant à l’objet religieux qu’à la posture qui le sous-tend. De ce fait, une attention grandissante est portée, d’année en année, sur les enjeux de la proximité et de la distance entre chercheur et objet d’étude. Cette volonté d’avant-garde encourage les chercheur.e.s, toutes disciplines confondues, à concilier différentes approches et méthodologies qui questionnent cette barrière souvent invisible entre leur subjectivité et leur objectivité.

The Crisis Communication Working Group aims to provide a forum for scholars researching the mediation of political and economic crisis, wars and terrorism, disasters, catastrophes and risks, combining global and local perspectives. We adopt a broad understanding of crisis communication with theoretical contributions from different perspectives and disciplines and hope to stimulate fruitful discussions about threat-image constructions and the consequences for democracy and civil rights.

The Comic Art Working Group, founded in 1984 by John A. Lent, is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. As part of that occasion, the group hopes to have a full program of papers for the 2015 IAMCR conference in Montreal. Papers on any aspect of comic art are requested, such as political, advertising, or gag cartoons, newspaper strips, comic books, graphic novels, humor /cartoon periodicals, animation, and caricature.

Les métiers et les formations à l’information et de la communication ont pris une expansion considérable ces dernières années et il semble que la communication soit aujourd’hui une activité incontestée et reconnue, tant dans les milieux professionnels qu’à l’université. Cet état de fait pose question. Comment le communicateur peut-il faire valoir son professionnalisme ? Comment les communicateurs peuvent-ils développer une identité de métier ? Autant de questions qu’entend aborder ce colloque international (Sherbrooke, 28 et 29 mai 2015) en interrogeant de front la notion de professionnalisation.

Le pouvoir se situe au cœur des relations humaines. Sans restreindre le(s) pouvoir(s) à un champ particulier de son exercice, en ce qu’il s’impose dans la quotidienneté et la pluralité des contextes dans lesquels évoluent les individus, ce sont les rapports ou les mécanismes de ces derniers agissant comme définition ou recomposition de l’ordre social qui sont le fil conducteur de cette manifestation. Réfléchir sur les rapports de pouvoirs invite à mettre au jour la manière dont ces derniers se construisent et se mettent en œuvre, intentionnellement ou involontairement, et légitimement ou non. Ce thème est donc l’occasion de réfléchir à toutes les formes de pouvoirs, diffuses, douces et invisibles, mais aussi celles plus contraignantes et cœrcitives.

Congrès 2015 de la société québécoise de science politique
Les pays du BRICS (Brésil, Russie, Inde, Chine, Afrique du Sud) affichent aujourd’hui une présence accrue sur le continent africain, multipliant leurs relations diplomatiques, économiques et commerciales avec un nombre croissant de pays d’Afrique. Depuis le début des années 2000, les ressources dont regorge ce continent sont de plus en plus convoitées par la Chine et ses partenaires des BRICS qui en ont besoin pour assurer leur propre développement national. Cette quête de sécurisation pour leur approvisionnement en matières premières – produits pétroliers, miniers ou agricoles – sur un terrain de jeu longtemps monopolisé par les puissances occidentales peut-elle constituer une nouvelle marge de manœuvre pour les pays africains ?
