  Digital archiving in the Arab world

  Digital archiving in the Arab world acts as a major channel of knowledge transmission in the present day. As the practice grows, new archival challenges emerge and act as a catalyst for innovation and development of new technologies. The International Digital Archiving Conference in the Arab World is to be held in Abu Dhabi, October 26-27, 2019. It is the first Digital Archiving conference to be organized by the CEDEJ, Egypt (Centre d’études et de documentation économiques, juridiques et sociales) in collaboration with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and CEFAS (Centre français d’archéologie et de sciences sociales). The conference’s aim is to provide an exploratory gateway of the fast-growing interdisciplinaryfield of digital archiving in the Arab world.

  The Middle East and Europe: cross-cultural, diplomatic and economic exchanges in the early modern period (1500-1820)

  This conference is an international symposium that proposes to study the entire range of exchanges and relations established between these two areas during the Early Modern Times (1500-1820). Its main objective is to think about diplomatic, economic, religious and cultural links between Europe and the Middle East by calling upon over twenty researchers with specializations in the Arab, Persian and Muslim world. In addition, this conference will provide a comprehensive overview to date of the Arabian Gulf at a time of major political change, including the successive arrival of the European “trading empires”. It will focus on some of the methodological challenges raised by a global, connected and cross-cultural thinking approach to the History of the Middle East and Europe”.

  New Academic and Scientific Migrations in the South

  The aim of the conference is to explore new international academic patterns. During the last two decades, countries in the South (Asia and the MENA region) have developed their higher education systems and scientific capacity and have become attractors for students and scientists from both the North and the South, presenting a challenge to the traditional "brain drain". In order to better understand those new phenomena, we are looking for contributions exploring empirical case studies about those new migrations.

  French Documents on the Arabian Peninsula in 19th Century History

  The history of France-Arabian Peninsula and Arabian Gulf relations during the 19th century

  Les documents français relatifs à l'histoire de la péninsule et des pays du Golfe arabe revêtent une importance considérable dans les nouvelles orientations méthodologiques de la recherche historique. Ces documents renferment beaucoup d'informations qui reflètent une large diversité de sources d'ordre : politique, économique, scientifique, et maritime, qu'avait connu la région au cours du XIXe siècle. Le grand intérêt que nous portons à ces documents va nous permettre d'enrichir nos connaissances historiques, vues d'un autre angle, celui des français. Cette nouvelle vision permettra aux chercheurs d'entamer une nouvelle ère pour l'appropriation des traitements et des analyses des faits propres à l'histoire de la région, qui a connu une bonne période de luttes, sans merci, entre les forces européennes. Et grâce a ces concurrences, un amas de documents, de rapports, de compilations et d'essais littéraires et artistiques, sont venus à l'aide des recherches multidisciplinaires .

  Les héritages culturels dans l'urbanisme et l'architecture au XXIe siècle

  Projets urbains, architecture et identités culturelles en Europe, Afrique du Nord, au Moyen-Orient et en Asie

  Certains projets d’urbanisme intègrent les éléments de la mondialisation des échanges et des cultures. Ils se veulent, d’une certaine manière, tous des « ponts entre les civilisations ». Ils s’inspirent de formes plus ou moins abstraites, en adéquation ou en totale rupture avec les cultures nationales ou régionales traditionnelles. Comment ces projets intègrent-ils le patrimoine urbanistique et architectural ancien ? Dans quelle mesure les similitudes et les convergences entre l’Europe, l’Afrique du Nord, le Moyen-Orient et l’Asie révèlent-elles une cohérence géographique et architecturale dans la valorisation des identités passées ?
