On the crossroads of modernity - new perspectives on religion, culture and society since 1750

The Research Network on Christian Churches, Culture and Society (www.ccsce.eu) is a network of individual researchers that focuses on historical research on the interaction of religion, culture and society in Europe from the second half of the 18th century until the present. CCSCE ambitions a renewed approach to religious history, implementing a broad and genuinely transnational perspective, across the whole of Europe. It aims to develop a durable and multidisciplinary research community on the subject, involving both senior and promising young scholars.

Kulturgutschutz in Europa und im Rheinland

Franziskus Graf Wolff Metternich und der Kunstschutz während des Zweiten Weltkriegs

Ce colloque traitera de la protection du patrimoine culturel en Europe et en Rhénanie. Franziskus comte Wolff Metternich (1893-1978), conservateur provincial et du Land de Rhénanie entre 1928 et 1950, et directeur du Kunstschutz dans les territoires occupés pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, joue par son activité un rôle important dans la réflexion sur la protection des biens culturels au XX^e siècle. Le colloque se propose de présenter les résultats rassemblés par un projet de recherche de trois ans sur les sources du Kunstschutz et sur le réseau de Wolff Metternich, projet implanté au sein du LVR -AFZ (Archivberatungs- und Fortbildungszentrum du Landschaftsverband Rheinland / Centre de conseil et de formation en archives des autorités régionales de Rhénanie).

Nouvelles façons de créer des liens au Japon

Au Japon, un nombre croissant d’interfaces issues des technologies de l’information et de la communication (TC) sont spécifiquement conçues pour favoriser l'attachement : les robots de compagnie, les épouses holographiques, les petits amis à télécharger et les partenaires en réalité augmentée sont commercialisés à des prix toujours plus attractifs. L’attrait qu’ils exercent est tel qu’une frange non-négligeable de consommateurs affirme préférer ces formes de vie artificielles aux humains de chair et d’os. Ce colloque international et interdisciplinaire s’intéressera à la manière dont l’être humain établit des relations intimes avec des « entités numériques émotionnellement intelligentes » et aux raisons pour lesquelles il s’engage dans une histoire avec elles. L’impact de ces technologies sur les structures traditionnelles de la famille et de la société sera également exploré.

Innovation und mittelalterliche Gemeinschaften in Nordwesteuropa (1200-1500)

Auf welche Weise trägt Innovation zur Neudefinition sozialer Gruppen zwischen dem 13. und 16. Jahrhundert bei? Eingebettet in ein größeres Forschungsvorhaben, das sich der Erforschung von Innovationen im Kontext des späten Mittelalters widmet, ist das Ziel dieses ersten Kolloquiums, das eine kontinuierliche Zusammenarbeit zu diesem Forschungsthema initiieren soll, ein dreifaches: die Rezeption von Innovationen in den jeweiligen Gemeinschaften zu beobachten; die Verbreitungs- oder Ablehnungsstrategien in den verschiedenen ausgewählten Gemeinschaften zu identifizieren. Schließlich die komplexen Wechselbeziehungen von Novation und Transformation in diesen vormodernen Gesellschaften zu verstehen, die einerseits "Neuheit" ablehnen und andererseits auf die Erfordernisse des Wandels

Voyage d’études « Aperçu de la recherche allemande en histoire médiévale »

Munich pour les médiévistes 2019

L’Institut historique allemand (IHA) offre aux étudiantes et étudiants, doctorantes et doctorants français et allemands, en 2019, une excursion à Munich dont le thème sera : aperçu de la recherche allemande en histoire médiévale. L’excursion aura lieu du 25 au 29 août 2019 à Munich. Le voyage d’études offre, à des étudiantes et étudiants, doctorantes et doctorants allemands et français en histoire du Moyen Âge disposant des connaissances de base de l’autre langue, l’occasion de se familiariser avec la pratique de la recherche et du paysage scientifique en Allemagne.

Solidarity at Work

The term “solidarity” seems to have fallen out of theoretical fashion despite the fact that it has a long history of describing the shared struggles of those oppressed by economic or political power structures. This conference aims to explore the past, present and future of “solidarity at work” on both the conceptual and empirical level. Its focus is on the world of work, which it wants to investigate from a transnational perspective. How have the concepts, conceptions and categories of solidarity shaped labor and the labor movements of different countries? What about the divergent conceptual meanings and practices in these assorted contexts? How have power relations as well as people’s everyday life been changed by the various practices related to solidarity? How do technological and managerial changes help to shift ideas and practices of solidarity? Do we see new forms emerging? Who are the agents of “solidarity at work” and what are the concrete mechanisms involved? More broadly, what are the levers and brakes of solidarity in the workplace today?

Die geplante Trier Tagung möchte diesen Prozess der Verbreitung und Transformation zoologischen Wissens in der Spätantike und in byzantinischer Zeit anhand ausgewählter Phänomene näher analysieren. In den Blick genommen werden sollen hierzu einzelne Autoren und Texte in lateinischer, griechischer oder arabischer Sprache, ausgewählte Bildzeugnisse und Monumente oder – in weiterer Perspektive –Textgattungen, verschiedene mediale Formen der Künste oder auch bestimmte kulturelle Kontexte in ihrem Einfluss auf Literatur und Kunst.

L'examen comparé des situations allemande et française débutera par une analyse de l'utilisation que font les juges des droits fondamentaux. Trois thèmes seront ensuite examinés, en partant de situations pratiques, afin de mettre en exergue les difficultés juridiques qu'elles ont fait naître ainsi que les enjeux sociaux ou humains qu'elles soulèvent : l'aménagement du travail pour raison religieuse ; le port de signes religieux au travail ; critique et dénonciation. Ces thèmes seront présenté par un binôme franco-allemand et sera suivi d'échanges avec les participants.

Schalten und walten. Towards Operative Ontologies

IKKM Biennial Conference 2019

The conference will conclude the IKKM six-year research program on ‘Operative Ontologies’. A term seeming contradictory at first, it assumes that everything that exists is not simply present or given but has been called into being through media and their operations in the most general sense: The ruling (das Walten) of nature as well as the ruling of the social reside under the command of technology, which as increasingly digitized technology is based on switching operations (das Schalten) — e.g. the achievements of bioengineering or the computational models of planet Earth. When embodied operations establish ontological orders and the difference between the ontic and the ontological thus re-enters the ontic, this demands a radical remodeling of ontology. The IKKM Biennial Conference 2019 therefore investigates the given with regard to the procedures through which it has been made possible, produced, set up, brought into the world and called into being — “switched on” — in the first place.

Politik der Nichtidentität

In Frankreich wie in Deutschland erfährt das Denken Adornos gegenwärtig eine erneute Rezeption. Sein Begriff der Nichtidentität, dessen Bedeutung noch lange nicht ausgeschöpft ist, steht im Zentrum des Interesses an seiner kritischen Theorie. Er kann als kritischer Begriff angesichts der Zunahme von „identitären“ Tendenzen in ganz Europa und allgemein gegenüber der inflationären Semantik von Identität im gesamten politischen Spektrum herangezogen werden. Von dieser politischen Diagnose aus geht das Junge Forum den Bedeutungen des Konzepts der Nichtidentität nach ebenso wie möglichen Verwendungen in verschiedenen interdisziplinären Zusammenhängen.

Das Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte sucht zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt (spätestens zum 01.04.2019) zwei Doktorandinnen/Doktoranden im Rahmen der Max-Planck-Forschungsgruppe III „Die Regierung der Universalkirche nach dem Konzil von Trient:päpstliche Verwaltungskonzeptionen und -praktiken am Beispiel der Konzilskongregation zwischen früher Neuzeit und Zeitgeschichte“. Die Max-Planck-Forschungsgruppe III will die Entstehung und Entwicklung des Systems der posttridentinischen globalen Regierung der katholischen Kirche aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive über einen langen Zeitraum hinaus gründlich untersuchen. Und zwar mittels der Analyse der Aktivität der Konzilskongregation, dass für die adäquate Umsetzung der Konzilsbeschlüsse in der gesamten katholischen Welt verantwortlich war.

In the premodern world, geographical knowledge was heavily influenced by religious ideas and beliefs. The conference seeks to analyse, how the religious character of geographic knowledge in the period from ca. 1150 to 1550 lingered on in classical as well as new forms of (re)presenting geography.
