Web of knowledge – A look into the past, embracing the future

The congress aims to bring together researchers and scientists from different backgrounds intersecting with the social sciences revealing the visible and invisible networks. By fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the study of the past, the congress expects to lay the framework for the present day science on which to map the future web of knowledge. This congress intends to meditate on science, and to understand how it is being constructed nowadays. Our focus is to approach questions such as: How do we do/communicate science, immediate science, open access, intellectual property, bioethics, cultural heritage, among others.

KISMIF conference 2018

We are pleased to announce the fourth “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” (KISMIF) Conference which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 3 July and 7 July 2018. This initiative follows the great success of the three past editions and brings together an international community of researchers focusing on underground music scenes and do-it-yourself culture. The 4^th edition of KISMIF will focus on “Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures”, directing its attention on gender issues relating to underground scenes and do it yourself (DIY) cultures, and their manifestation at local, translocal and virtual levels.

No início do terceiro milénio, e numa sociedade submetida a mudanças culturais, que decorrem a velocidades muito superiores às que o tempo de percepção, meditação, e experimentação necessitam, o interesse pela Paisagem tem ganho uma importância crescente, que transforma a disciplina numa plataforma de investigação onde se cruzam os vários ramos do conhecimento.

Old Tensions, emerging paradoxes in health

European Society for Health and Medical Sociology 17th biennial conference

The positive effect of comprehensive health systems on health outcomes, economic growth and well-being is generally acknowledged, just as of representative policies, scientific-based decisions and trust relationships on social cohesion and respect for political and civil rights in health. Not surprisingly, health policies have become more aligned with the needs of different social groups (e.g. migrants, ethnic minorities, women, LGBT) and of specific medical conditions (e.g. HIV, mental and age-related diseases). Regulators interfere more and more in professional work models and decisions to better control health systems performance and to enhance transparency, but so do empowered citizens in the defence of their rights as patients.

Amílcar Cabral: The “Anonymous Fighter” for the Mankind Fundamental Freedoms

In 1971, Amílcar Cabral presented himself in the United Nations (UN) as an “anonymous fighter” engaged in the struggle for the fundamental freedoms of the populations of Guinea and Cape Verde, as well as of all mankind. Such affirmation was not casual, since Cabral adopted the status of “anonymous fighter” in other circumstances, arguing that he was struggling for the human dignity, progress and happiness. The main goal of the conference is to bring together academics studying Cabral trajectory, institutions involved in preserving his memory and personalities which became acquainted with him.

O tema deste ano é “Punir o Inimigo: Justiça Política nas Ditaduras e Democracias do Século XX”, e a coordenação científica está a cargo de Paula Borges Santos, Irene Flunser Pimentel e Fernando Rosas. Quais foram os “inimigos” dos Estados ditatoriais e democráticos do século XX euro-americano? Que construções simbólicas dos inimigos foram feitas nessas diferentes experiências políticas históricas? Como actuaram os regimes para isolar, silenciar ou eliminar política e socialmente os seus inimigos? O chamado direito penal do inimigo é uma criação da actualidade ou pode ser observado em perspectiva histórica?

Post-soviet diaspora(s) in Western Europe (1991-2017)

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, millions of former soviet citizens crossed the national borders in search of better lives in new countries, in what was the biggest migration tide since the end of World War II. These Post-Soviet migrants were diverse in origins, strategies and expectations. They often represented a challenge to the orthodox views of migration processes, since in most cases these flows could not be easily described and analysed following commonly accepted theoretical frameworks. Everybody seemed to be on the move: labour migrants, political refugees, cross-border traders, “tourists” planning to forget their return... and in a short period, they spread all over Western Europe.

Sensibilités esclaves dans les mondes ibériques (XV-XXe siècle)

Les récits de vies d'esclaves semblent beaucoup moins courants dans les mondes ibériques que, par exemple, anglo-américains. Ils sont pourtant une source de première importance pour comprendre les subjectivités des esclaves eux-mêmes. D'autres sources (archives de l'Inquisition, actes notariés, actes de manumission, etc.) peuvent parfois permettre de traquer cette voix des sans-voix. Ce colloque, organisé en commun par l'Instituto de ciências sociais (Lisbonne) et la Casa de Velázquez / École des hautes études hispaniques et ibériques (Madrid), voudrait permettre d'avancer dans l'étude de la vision des asservis, dans le cadre ibérique.

C’est bien le cinquantenaire de cette date – 1967 – et de l’idiome de cette pensée liée au nom, à la pensée et à l’œuvre de Jacques Derrida, qu’elle date et dont elle est porteuse, que nous souhaitons très vivement saluer et remarquer avec ce colloque international tout en remarquant et la justice qui l’aimante et la riche multiplicité de ses portées et de ses enjeux – de la philosophie à la littérature, à la psychanalyse, au politique, au juridique, aux arts, aux sciences et à la théologie – en pariant de lui donner une juste survivance.

Bien plus que ressasser les circonstances historiques de 1968, il importe d’en dégager des bilans et des réinventions prospectives telles qu’elles s’expriment en langue française tant sur le plan culturel que littéraire, et en suivre les réalisations et les enjeux ; ce qui engage une réflexion à portée critique sur les échos multiples, parfois imprévus, de Mai 68 sur le présent et l’avenir.

Em 2016 decorreu a primeira edição do congresso internacional « Transformações e (in)consistências das dinâmicas educacionais », centrada no balanço das políticas públicas de educação, a propósito das efemérides de três e duas décadas que as Leis enquadradoras das políticas públicas de educação, portuguesa, brasileira e espanhola, então cumpriram. O sucesso dessa primeira edição, traduzido pela importância dos debates e das apresentações, impõe a continuação da organização deste evento, com caráter anual, assumindo-o como fórum de discussão orientado para um questionamento crítico das dinâmicas educacionais e para aduzir as ideias necessárias, que possam ajudar a pensar e a executar melhores políticas públicas de educação e formação.

Gomes Freire de Andrade: the man and his time

In 2017 we celebrate the bicentennial of three remarkable moments in the history of Portugal, Spain, Brazil and the Ibero-American world, the so-called “Revolution of 1817”, in Pernambuco; the “conspiracy” of General Gomes Freire de Andrade against the British tutelage, in Portugal; and the failed liberal pronouncement of General Luis Lacy y Gauthier, in Catalonia, in favor of the Constitution of 1812. In view of the historical and historiographic importance of these events, the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa), in collaboration with the Directorate of History and Military Culture, is organizing an international conference that aims to contribute to debate the crisis of the Iberian empires in the early nineteenth century and the emergence of liberalism and the politicization of Ibero-American societies.

Approches critiques pour de nouveaux défis / opportunités

Le concept d’immigration convoque d’autres termes comme ceux de réfugiés, migration, citoyenneté, inclusion, innovation, inégalité, exclusion, émigration en tant que capital social, assimilation, local, global, etc. L’appel à publication accueillera toute réflexion critique à partir d’une conception large du concept d’immigration. Les propositions d’articles concerneront l’immigration depuis des perspectives culturelles, artistiques et linguistiques, abordant des discours qui participent à la construction de la connaissance sur l’immigration, les expériences individuelles/collectives ou la mémoire, dans les contextes d’immigration. Les perceptions et imaginaires liés à des facteurs comme le genre, l’âge, la classe sociale, la religion ou l’ethnie seront particulièrement appréciées, ainsi que les contributions liées aux problématiques actuelles concernant les réfugiés en Européen.

Literatura funerária do Antigo Egipto

Textos das pirâmides. Textos dos sarcófagos

A produção de literatura funerária teve lugar em todos os períodos da história do antigo Egipto, sendo constituída sobretudo por textos inscritos nas paredes dos túmulos ou gravados em objectos tumulares, como sarcófagos e papiros. Estes textos, que representam o género de corpus mais amplo de todos os géneros do antigo Egipto, funcionariam como auxiliares para o morto atingir o Além na companhia dos deuses.

Manuscritos judaicos medievais na Península Ibérica

Nas últimas décadas, devido ao incentivo de várias instituições como por exemplo a Rothschild Foundation, tem-se assistido a um acréscimo do interesse pelo tema dos manuscritos judaicos medievais, inclusivamente na Península Ibérica, com assinaláveis resultados ao nível da investigação arquivística e da apresentação dos respectivos resultados. O objectivo fundamental deste encontro é dar a conhecer esta diversidade apurada na investigação dos manuscritos medievais judaicos, e partilhar conhecimentos, conclusões, metodologias de análise e perspectivas de trabalhos futuros.
