  Terra Foundation Collection Research Fellowship in American Art at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza

  This two-year fellowship in Madrid, administered by the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, is devoted to original research on nineteenth-century American paintings in the museum's permanent collection. The fellow’s research will contribute to a new display of the American collection, a scholarly publication, and an international symposium.

  Body, culture and identity in Lavapies, Madrid

  From the individual to the collective

  The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

  Migravit a seculo. Muerte y poder de príncipes en la Europa Medieval

  El objetivo del coloquio es el análisis de la muerte como instrumento de poder por parte de las élites (los “príncipes”) medievales, desde los miembros de la realeza o la jerarquía eclesiástica hasta la aristocracia militar o el patriciado urbano. Dado el carácter multidisciplinar escogido, el acercamiento que ofrezcan los ponentes pueden ser de muy diverso tipo, y por tanto también los enfoques de acercamiento; desde perspectivas generales hasta casos particulares, que permitan la comparación en el tiempo y el espacio, pero también establecer la necesaria interrelación desde los diferentes campos de análisis. Por la misma razón, el elenco de ponentes contempla, junto a los miembros del equipo de investigación de MIGRAVIT-SEPULTUS que organiza el coloquio, la presencia de otras relevantes figuras del panorama científico europeo en sus respectivos campos, desde la historia general a la historia del arte, la musicología o la biología, para poder poner en común con ellos los resultados más relevantes de las investigaciones realizadas a lo largo de los tres último años.

  Sainteté et politique à l'époque moderne

  Atelier doctoral, Casa de Velázquez, 19–22 novembre 2014

  Depuis une quinzaine d'années, les problématiques de l’histoire politique et de l’histoire religieuse de l’époque moderne se sont entrecroisées. Cet atelier doctoral sera ainsi centré sur le réexamen des sources religieuses (textes et images) à la lumière des sources politiques. Il s’agira de montrer que le croisement des analyses à l’échelle des États en train de se construire aussi bien que des communautés locales a permis de redynamiser en profondeur les études sur la sainteté, d’en modifier les approches et les grilles de lecture. L’Europe et les territoires européens et américains de la Monarchie hispanique seront au cœur de ces réflexions. Le nombre des participants est limité à vingt. Un appel à candidatures (qui se clôt le 15 octobre 2014 à minuit) est organisé.

  Les émotions

  Un tournant en histoire et dans les sciences humaines ?

  Après le tournant linguistique et culturel qu’a connu l’historiographie dans les dernières décennies du XX^e siècle, une nouvelle frontière s’est ouverte aux chercheur, celle des sensibilités et des émotions, à tel point que certains auteurs parlent d’un « tournant émotionnel » (emotional turn) ou « affectif » (affective turn). Là, comme dans des élans de rénovation antérieur, les historiens n’avancent pas seuls mais de conserve avec d’autres disciplines des sciences sociales et humaines, et même des sciences épistémologiquement distantes comme la médecine. L’étude des émotions se constitue depuis quelques années comme un nouveau champ de recherche, ou plus exactement une nouvelle perspective applicable à des champs déjà connus.
