  Time, Space, and Power in Qualitative Research on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region and Europe

  Since the start of the 21^st century seemingly unpredictable change, in all its different guises, has fueled the preoccupations of academic and non-academic publics. The financial crisis, the “Arab Spring”, protest movements in southern Europe, the rise of Daesh and right-wing populism, as well as the environmental crisis all make it very difficult to rely on Francis Fukuyama’s theory of “end of history”, which now seems to merely reflect the euphoria of liberal elites following the collapse of the Soviet Union (1992). This workshop intends to reflect more closely on the webs of power affecting both the researcher and‚ the researched when they intend to represent change.

  Throughout the 20^th century, from URSS to the United-States, Germany, Italy and Japan, architects, planners, economists, and politicians have repeatedly proposed decentralization as a way to restructure societies and their spaces—notably in response to political, economic, environmental, social, or cultural crisis. Our purpose is to revisit the concept and projects elaborated during the 20^th Century (mainly until the 1970s) We will attempt, with the different papers, to understand the ideals that founded them, the references mobilized, the tools – conceptual as well as practical – they experimented, the influences they could have – or not – on the making of the urbanized world and on a new image of it; we will also explore the transfers from a scientific field to another, from a cultural space to another.

L’ambition de ce projet est de constituer un catalogue descriptif et analytique de ces expositions, de la fin du XIX^e siècle à la fin du XX^e siècle et d’entamer une réflexion sur leur histoire spécifique, à travers une étude de l’évolution des conditions sociales, culturelles et institutionnelles qui permirent ou rendirent nécessaire la tenue de telles expositions, une analyse des différents niveaux de médiations et d’agencements présents dans ce type d’expositions, ou encore un examen de leur fonctionnement symbolique et de leur réception critique.

En quoi la Méditerranée résonne-t-elle en nous ? Comment pouvons-nous incorporer son legs pour construire une relation au monde actuel. Plutôt que d’en faire un concept ou une marque, que la langue en fasse un verbe.

  4th conference of the network of Francophone legal clinics

  Pour la IV^e édition de son colloque annuel, le Réseau des cliniques juridiques francophones lance un appel à communications sur le thème : « Universités et accès au droit dans l'espace francophone ». Dans l’espace francophone, si nombre de sociologues, juristes et politistes ont fait de l’accès au droit leur objet d’étude, les recherches ne s’intéressent que rarement à la place des établissements d’enseignement supérieur. Conçues comme le lieu de réflexion sur le droit et de formation des ses acteurs principaux – juges et « médiateurs »  – les facultés de droit peinent à repenser leur rôle au-delà de cette posture initiale. À travers et au-delà des cliniques juridiques, ce colloque invite à penser le passage de l’accès au droit comme objet de recherche extérieur à l’université à un sujet de réflexion interne sur la place de l’université dans la communauté socio-politique.

  For its 11th issue, RITA proposes to interrogate the links between power and media in the Americas. Several areas of debate can be suggested, although they should not be considered as exclusive. Articles making a critical analysis of official media as well as opposition media, in varied historical and geographical contexts, will of course be welcome. Other articles may deal with the treatment of popular movements by the media. Critical reflections on the relationship between media and economic power are also encouraged. The Thema section can also include analysis of the current diversification of information media by focusing, for instance, on the emergence of “alternative” media on the Internet, or on the power of fake news over the construction of collective representations.
