  Climate Migrations: Past, Present, Future

  Though interest in environmental migration has grown steadily since the 1980s, the climate emergency has established climate migration as a major subject of research. This type of migration can be defined as movements by individuals or groups which are mainly caused by factors related to a sudden or progressive environmental alteration due to climate change. Both climate science on the one hand, and humanities and social sciences on the other, are now deepening our collective understanding of climate migration. And yet transdisciplinary “consilience” between those two domains of knowledge remains rare and, indeed, presents major methodological challenges

Cette revue publie des recherches inédites à caractère historique visant à développer la réflexion scientifique dans le domaine des médias, des médiations, des médiateurs. Elle entend ce champ dans une acception large qui n'exclut aucun des aspects économique, social, politique ou culturel : moyens et techniques de communication, production et circulation de l'information, histoire des industries culturelles, sociologie historique des médias, histoire des publics ou des programmes, etc. En outre, la revue couvre le temps long des pratiques médiatiques, sans aucune limite chronologique ou géographique a priori.

  PhD - Analysis of excess cardiovascular mortality in women

  The aim of this thesis is to examine, from an intersectional perspective, the factors that may help to explain the excess mortality of women in the field of cardiovascular diseases, based on the study of the French Constances cohort and the activity data of a Parisian hospital. The aim will be to uncover the social and professional logics that favour the perception of symptoms, access to care, and differentiated forms of medical care and treatment follow-up. At the interface of sociological and demographic analysis, the research will be based on quantitative analyses. A qualitative component may be included. It will have to interact with the qualitative and quantitative research conducted within the Gendhi project.

It aims to grasp the heuristic significance of gold in order to examine the processes of change, structuring, and destructuring at work at different scales of the gold production network and supply chain. It particularly welcomes studies grounded in empirics to primarily address the following issues: responsibility, (possible) sustainability, legitimation, and social justice.

  Thinking anti-gender in Africa

  Anti-gender campaigns have been developing in Africa for around twenty years. As an analytical category, anti-gender embraces a diverse collection of social and political actors who believe in the existence of “a gender theory” and have built it up into a public issue. This political task was originally taken up by the Vatican and observed in Europe, and is based on the delegitimisation of gender studies, which are accused of being ideological and non-scientific, and on the designation of gender as “an adversary bearing a denaturalised vision of the gender-related and sexual order”.  Thus, it is important to study these social phenomena. How should the rise in the power of antigender rhetoric and mobilisations be understood? What do they teach us about African societies and political spaces?

  Vulnerabilities at work

  Comparative perspectives to the social sciences in Europe

  Depuis le tournant des années 2000, les politiques européennes du travail et de l’emploi, suivies progressivement et à des degrés divers au niveau national, prônent un double mouvement de flexibilisation et de sécurisation des parcours professionnels. Face aux mutations technologiques, aux transformations des modes d’organisation des systèmes productifs et à certains de leurs effets (chômage de masse, délocalisation, automatisation, uberisation, etc.), nous serions toutes et tous devenu·e·s « vulnérables » au travail. Davantage qu’hier, nos « vulnérabilités » individuelles et collectives seraient mises en avant. En première acception, cette notion renvoie à la potentialité d’un être ou d’une chose de se trouver dégradé. Mais alors qu’elle fait l’objet de discussions critiques, après avoir été largement investi au sein du secteur médico-sociale, elle semble aujourd’hui s’être généralisée au point de faire figure de « nouvelle catégorie d’action publique ». Dans ce contexte, il est possible de s’interroger sur sa réelle contemporanéité, son application aux mondes du travail et de l’emploi, et sa portée heuristique pour les recherches en sciences sociales.

  Le dernier numéro dédié aux politiques locales de jeunesse dans la revue Agora débats/jeunesses date de 2007. Treize ans plus tard, il nous semble intéressant de revenir sur ces politiques publiques et de nous interroger sur les évolutions qui les ont concernées au cours de cette période. En effet, si un certain nombre d’interrogations demeurent, d’autres sont apparues depuis lors : la prise en compte des « nouveaux » échelons territoriaux (les régions et les intercommunalités) dans un jeu d’acteurs déjà très dense, la nécessité ou non de trouver un leader pour les politiques locales de jeunesse qui apparaissent particulièrement dispersées, le retrait sans cesse accentué de l’État (central et déconcentré), la montée en puissance des institutions européennes, le développement des politiques rurales, l’adaptation des réponses aux différentes problématiques sociales vécues par les jeunes…

  Enfants et rites (III) workshop. Subjects, actors or objects?

  L’atelier « Enfants et Rites » vise à promouvoir un champ de recherche explorant rites et faits religieux au croisement de l’anthropologie de l’enfance et des enfants et de l’anthropologie générale. Les modes de participation des enfants aux rituels y sont abordés à partir d’une question exploratoire : les enfants sont-ils les sujets, les acteurs ou les objets des rites auxquels ils prennent part ? Sa troisième édition sera consacrée aux types d’agentivité enfantines exercés dans le cadre de « rites de l’enfance » sur lesquels on pourrait penser que les enfants ont peu de prise : rites de naissance, rites d’anniversaire, rites de citoyenneté, rites de passage à l’âge adulte, etc. Les enfants font-ils toujours ce que les adultes demandent ? Quels types de rôles leur sont attribués ou s’arrogent-ils ? Quelles marges de manœuvre possèdent-ils ? Quels types d’acceptations, réinterprétations, négociations ou détournements enfantins peut-on observer ?

  Das Ziel dieses Workshops ist es, den Begriff „Körper” in Bezug auf die spezifischen Herausforderungen, mit denen das leidende Subjekt konfrontiert ist, zu thematisieren. Den Ausgangspunkt hierfür bildet die Annahme, dass sich im Leiden und der Unmöglichkeit seiner vollständigen sprachlichen Vermittlung die enge Verbindung zwischen Körper und Sprache zeigt. Sie verweist auf die Notwendigkeit, diese beide Sphären zusammen zu denken. Wir laden Vertreter*innen philosophischer, psychoanalytischer, politik- und sozialwissenschaftlicher, literaturwissenschaftlicher sowie künstlerischer Perspektiven zu einem zweitägigen Workshop an der École normale supérieure (Paris) ein, um uns gemeinsam mit diesem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. Die Veranstaltung wird am 1. und 2. Oktober 2021 stattfinden.

  Water and agriculture in the Arab world

  Le développement agricole des pays arabes est intrinsèquement lié aux problématiques de la gouvernance de l’eau, car l’agriculture présente à elle seule environ 85 % des prélèvements totaux en eau au Moyen-Orient. Compte tenu de cette situation, et prenant en considération que la région du Moyen-Orient est présentée comme l’une des plus pauvres en eau d’ici 2050 (World Resource Institute, 2019), il devient urgent de repenser le modèle agricole qui se trouve à l’origine de ce déséquilibre. Un modèle agricole moins tourné vers l’export et davantage axé sur les spécificités géographiques et hydriques de chaque pays, permettrait-il de lutter efficacement contre la « pénurie d’eau » dans la région ?

  We are looking for a PhD candidate to study the history of antibiotic regulation at the international level between circa 1980 and 2010. Located in Strasbourg, the PhD project aims to study how the post-1945 antibiotic success story has been transformed into a narrative of innovation scarcity, orchestrated at an international stage. The PhD project will aim to understand how the narrative of a decline in innovation, research and development of new antibiotics, along with a growing concern about antimicrobial resistance, has arisen internationally. How has this narrative been played out by the many actors involved in the international regulation of medicines? How did it contribute to the adoption of industry-friendly policies from the 2000s onwards, through various incentive mechanisms facilitating the discovery of new molecules and their marketing?

  Our program on non-state actors, energy transition, and climate governance — at the environment, energy and natural resources center at the University of Houston law center — is funded by the European Commission in the frame of the program H2020 and Marie Curie Actions — and we are delighted to partner with the Center for US and Mexican Law here at the University of Houston Law Center and the Center for European Studies at Jean Moulin University of Lyon 3 in France, to conduct research on diverse topics including inter alia non-state actors and climate litigation under the inspiring leadership of Professor Victor Flatt, Co-director of the EENR Center with Professor Gina Warren, but also our chair this morning.
