  Disability and geography: spatialities of disability and social and professional integration

  8th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe

  The disability rights movement laid the foundation for the current development of disability studies.  A number of geography-based studies have been part of this stream of research since the 1990s. From different theoretical perspectives, they aim to study the links between disability and spatial injustice or to explore the sensitive dimension of the spatial relationships of people with disabilities. This EUGEO 2021 session wishes to highlight all the work that considers disability and its issues through a spatial approach. Whether the study of the mobility of people with disabilities or the analysis of their objective and subjective links with space, work that analyzes the spatialities of disability in their multiplicity and diversity will be particularly appreciated. With the aim of understanding to what extent space can be an asset or a hindrance for people with disabilities, this session also encourages work that questions the different logics of social and professional integration and in particular the influence of the living environment in these logics.

  The Bible and Migration

  Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

  Proximity and mediation

  The role of mediation in relations of proximity

  La notion de proximité implique une idée de distance immédiate et rapprochée qui peut être de différentes natures : spatiale, temporelle, sociale, numérique. Cependant, la présence d’un intermédiaire, d’un médiateur, implique un éloignement par rapport à « l’objet de proximité ». La question se pose alors : ce processus de mise à distance conserve-t-il intacte la situation/la chose telle qu’elle est dans son existence de proximité ? Cette médiation lui apporte-t-elle ou lui retire-t-elle son authenticité ? La dénaturerait-elle ? Comment la dialectique entre les deux notions façonne-t-elle notre société et/ou l’individu ? Afin de mieux cerner la relation entre proximité et médiation, nous sollicitons des propositions de communication de différents domaines scientifiques. Cette approche pluridisciplinaire sera l’occasion de revisiter les effets de la médiation dans son rapport à la proximité et ce à la lumière de différentes théories et méthodologies.

  9th Sino-European tourism conference

  La géographie s’est encore peu emparée du concept d’interculturation, pourtant intrinsèquement lié à la mobilité et aux rencontres spatio-culturelles qu’elle génère. L’approche géographique du tourisme apparaît dans ce contexte particulièrement éclairante, pour reposer sur l’analyse des effets d’une mise en relation de sociétés endogènes et exogènes. Mais cette approche qui permet d’appréhender dans toute sa complexité la résilience des cultures confrontées au tourisme mérite d’être approfondie en mobilisant toutes les échelles du social et du spatial. Ce colloque entend aborder cette réflexion en mettant l’accent sur les valorisations du patrimoine immatériel. Les rapports interculturels entre individus, groupes et acteurs, dans les logiques de co-constitutions entre tourisme et patrimoine immatériel, seront donc au cœur des problématiques abordées par le colloque.

  How to investigate the private space?

  La famille est un objet difficile à appréhender par le chercheur ou la chercheuse en sciences sociales, dans la mesure où ce qu’il s’y passe et les relations entre ses membres restent de l’ordre de l’intime, dissimulés derrière les murs du foyer. L’ordinaire de la vie familiale ne laisse que peu de traces et de documents. Recueillir des matériaux d’enquête consiste alors souvent à collecter la parole des intéressé·es, par le biais d’entretiens, de sources écrites personnelles ou institutionnelles. Cependant, d’autres méthodes peuvent être mobilisées par les chercheur·ses pour « voir » la famille plutôt que pour l’entendre se raconter. L’objectif de cette journée d’étude est de discuter des difficultés méthodologiques inhérentes aux enquêtes sur l’objet « famille », d’entrer dans « les cuisines de la recherche » afin de découvrir certaines des méthodes originales mobilisées par des enquêteur·ices pour percer les secrets des familles.

  Witchcraft and moral harassment : forms of insidious violence

  A comparative study of witchcraft and bullying has never been attempted, although these two forms of insidious violence seem comparable. This workshop aims to show, by mobilizing the tools of clinical psychology and social sciences, how insidious violence develops as a system with real agents in certain contemporary societies (in Europe and outside Europe), but also in the form of a collective belief in the existence of essentially harmful characters (the “narcissistic pervert”). Witchcraft and harassment thus seem to be organized around a distribution of roles that could be compared: the culprit (sorcerers / stalkers), the experts (counter-sorcerers / psychological or legal experts), witnesses / accusers and the victims. Basically, there are many proven attempts at bewitchment and harassment, but also situations of suspicion of bewitchment or harassment, fueled by socially constructed representations. In other words, we start from the idea that insidious violence can be both a practice of actual aggression and a system of interpreting signs supported by a community.

  Silence has sometimes been described as something that is not here (a word that is absent, a noise that dissolves, a void, a "hole" or a "blank" in communication), and sometimes as something that is already here, the basis of any speech act relying on it. This issue of Ethnologie française proposes to question silence while being made, by exploring its pragmatic dimension and the practical problems that this exploration implies in terms of methodology and even of research ethics. Hence the need to reinvest, in a reflexive and committed way, this notion beyond the real difficulties of grasping what it is, to explore the ineffable, the elusive, the unspeakable and the indescribable, which are precisely its modes of existence. What can be said about the experience of silence in itself, as a specific modality of action and interaction, with its specific qualities, constraints and possibilities?

  Du linguiste à son objet : la distance en question(s)

  XXIVes rencontres jeunes chercheurs (RJC 2021)

  Si la recherche en linguistique relève d’un régime de scientificité qui vise à objectiver les données, la distance théorique censée détacher le linguiste de son objet d’étude n’est, dans les faits, pas toujours opérative. Cette distance devient potentiellement un terrain où s’inscrivent différentes représentations de la langue, de la société, ou de l’individu, localement et historiquement situées. Nous entendons la notion de représentation au sens d’image d’un objet du monde, telle qu’elle a été théorisée notamment dans le domaine de la psychologie sociale. La présence de ces représentations peut échapper au linguiste, dans la mesure où il aurait parfaitement intégré la pensée d’une époque ou d’un groupe social au point de ne plus s’en dissocier dans son activité scientifique. Dans cette perspective, nous proposons aux participants d’interroger les traces de ces représentations dans le discours linguistique (entendu comme la totalité de la production du savoir sur la langue, toutes époques ou traditions grammaticales confondues).

  La sociologie des religions française s’est structurée dans les années 1960 autour de concepts – la sécularisation, la pluralisation religieuse, l’individualisation des pratiques et croyances – qui accordent une place centrale à la notion de changement, en y associant des connotations positives (la « modernité » religieuse) ou négatives (le registre de la perte) et analysée à différents échelles (individuelle, organisationnelle etc.). Tout en tenant compte des apports de ces paradigmes, l’objectif du réseau thématique sera de s’éloigner des approches théoriques qui seraient spécifiques aux religieux en s’interrogeant sur le travail de sélection et de catégorisation à l’œuvre : comment définir ce qui est « religieux » ? Comment appréhender objectivement ou subjectivement le changement ?
