The journal aims to improve understanding of the issues, conditions and impact of mobility in order to encourage its consideration by the researchers and political decision-makers who have the authority to support it. ReThinking Europe in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea Region

The 11th annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies

Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union? Time and Migration

Journal Temporalités No. 32 (2020/2)

From a multidisciplinary perspective, we wish to bring together in this special issue contributions that deal explicitly with the times and temporalities of migration. Although "time" is often used in the titles of articles or books on migration, it must be noted that this concept of time often remains in a state of illustration. The last book on migration that used the term "temporalities" stated that "temporalities are a common entry point in the approach to international migration, but often remain only an implicit or even unthought dimension of it" (Baby-Collin et al. 2017b). Yet, with this stimulating work, the authors attempt to broaden the diachronic and sequential thinking on migration to include a multiplicity of social times (Gurvitch), questions relating to circulation, generations, representations and memory.

Internationalism(s) and education during the Cold War

Actors, rivalries and circulations

Not much research has been focused on educational internationalism, as it developed during the Cold War. Yet, this period provides an exceptional framework for understanding the evolution and metamorphosis of the processes of internationalization of knowledge and educational practices, whether in the school sphere or in the extra-curricular environment. Driven by a multitude of national, international, and imperial actors, these are articulated through the ideological confrontation between the blocs of the East and the West, but also through the challenges posed by European integration, decolonization, the emergence of "third worldism" and the attempts to regulate international relations (maintenance of peace and security, etc.). Therefore, the aim of this conference is to lay the foundations for a global history of educational internationalism, tracing its forms, its trajectories (North-South, East-West, South-South), as well as its impact on the political framework and the balance of power determined by the “global Cold War”.

Dans ce contexte, ce séminaire entend établir un état des lieux de l’historiographie abondante – et souvent polarisée – sur le pontificat du pape Pacelli, mais aussi identifier les thématiques innovantes et susceptibles de fédérer les recherches à venir en histoire et en sciences sociales.

Le témoignage est un acte d’éveil de la mémoire pour dire sa/la vérité ou ses/les vérités sur le(s) vécu(s) individuel(s) et/ou collectif(s) plus ou moins lointain(s). C’est une entreprise de rétrospection et d’introspection, voire de sublimation qui a la particularité, en littérature (appréhendée ici dans son sens le plus large), de se présenter sous plusieurs formes génériques. L’écriture testimoniale est une initiative qui est (profondément/psychiquement) motivée et a une intention(nalité), du moins des enjeux tant au niveau individuel (de l’auteur.e-témoin/enquêteur ou reporteur) qu’au niveau transindividuel (tribal, ethnique, social ou inter/national). Diplomatic departures: negotiating Britain’s international outreach in the contemporary world

In recent years, the expansion of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office network into new countries has generated increasing interest in the role of the places and spaces where diplomacy is made, in the international outreach of the United Kingdom and in the interactions between state and non-state actors and initiatives in delivering foreign policy objectives. What has received perhaps less sustained attention is the impact of diplomatic departures in Britain and in the British diplomatic network on the rethinking of Britain’s influence and power (hard, soft and smart). These departures - from the more dramatic to the more mundane - will be the focus of this conference, which will reflect on the adaptability and resilience of Britain’s international networks, and on what characterises both British diplomacy and Britain as a diplomatic space.

Le CHSP organise plusieurs séminaires de recherche en liaison étroite avec les études doctorales en Histoire de Sciences Po dirigées par Emmanuelle Loyer. L’intégration des doctorants de l’école doctorale de Sciences Po dans les activités scientifiques du centre est primordiale. Outre leur participation à l’organisation des séminaires des enseignants-chercheurs de la faculté permanente, certains sujets spécifiques font l’objet d’autres séminaires animés par les doctorants eux-mêmes au sein du Centre. Tous les séminaires de recherche sont ouverts aux doctorants et aux étudiants de master, et plus largement à la communauté savante.
