Cette publication portera une attention particulière à la création documentaire insulaire télévisée et/ou cinématographique de l'océan Indien, sans pour autant négliger la production de fictions. Le but de ce numéro est ainsi d’étudier les enjeux du cinéma documentaire et ses liens avec les autres médias (webs documentaires, télévision) : impact des formats, financements, nouvelles écritures, jeunes auteurs dans le contexte spécifique de l’insularité.

  The evolution of funerary practices from the Neolithic period to the beginning of the first Iron Age in France and in Western Europe

  Le XXIX^e congrès préhistorique de France se tiendra à Toulouse du 31 mai au 04 juin 2021 sur le thème : « Hiatus, lacunes et absences : identifier et interpréter les vides archéologiques ». Il est organisé conjointement par la Société préhistorique française et l'UMR 5608 TRACES. Au sein de la thématique F : « La mort évanescente : quelles pratiques funéraires pour les aires et périodes pauvres en sépultures ? » nous organisons la session suivante « Des vivants sans tombes et des morts sans habitats : évolution des pratiques funéraires du Néolithique au début du premier âge du Fer en France et en Europe occidentale » (session F1) pendant laquelle nous proposons de discuter des vides archéologiques dans le contexte funéraire, qu'ils soient chronologiques, géographiques, matériels ou démographiques.

  Censorship and blind spots: the BBC’s silences

  The BBC's reputation for impartiality and independence is one of the cornerstones of its value system, which also underpins its self-declared mission to "inform, educate, and entertain". However, these values have constantly been redefined as several forms of censorship and self-censorship have been applied in the context of conflict with political or economic powers. This means that the role and independence of the BBC as a public service needs to be questioned and the grey areas and silences of the BBC from its creation in 1922 to the beginning of its digital era in 1995 need to be the objects of inquiry.

  Narrating violence: Making race, making difference

  In collaboration with The George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights, and Conflict Prevention at the American University of Paris, University of Turku invites scholars, students, practitioners, and activists from all fields to take part in the Winter symposium of the Nordic Summer University Study Circle Narrative and Violence. This symposium will explore questions on the production, practice, and instrumentalization of violent narratives about racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual, and political minorities and groups. While multiple theoretical perspectives will be included in both locations, the symposium will have a broader international focus at the American University of Paris and will facilitate discussions primarily pertaining to the Nordic and Baltic sphere at the University of Turku.

  Domestic accumulation, decluttering, and the stuff of kinship in anthropological perspective

  We invite submissions of abstracts considering the following sorts of questions: What is the relationship between storage and the labor of kinship? What kinds of possessions are sources of obligation? Which are experienced as social or animate beings? What social practices and spatial processes surround waste, excess, and the riddance of objects from the home? How might local ethnographic concepts like hau orbrol inform the anthropological understanding of attachment to possessions, recycling, or the circulation of second-hand objects? When is accumulation a valued social practice, and when is it morally suspect? How is the space of storage constructed in relationship to the social space of the home, and how might this reflect on the local category of stored things? We invite authors to consider how practices such as storage, stockpiling, and purging of belongings can be approached anthropologically in order to provide both nuanced ethnographic depth and broader cross-cultural and historical perspective. Interdisciplinary perspectives are also welcome.

  Depuis 2001 et les attentats du 11 septembre, l'humanité est entrée de manière violente dans un nouveau siècle. En effet, en moins de vingt ans, le monde a subi de nombreux bouleversements : guerres, attentats, crises écologiques, économiques, idéologiques et sanitaires, etc. Au point de le transformer ? Probablement. Or, que nous inspire l'incertitude inhérente à tous ces changements, sinon de la peur ? Dans le cadre d'une approche pluridisciplinaire qui pourra faire appel autant aux réflexes et compétences de sociologue que d'anthropologue, d'historien, d'ethnologue, de philosophe, de civilisationiste, d'économiste, de politique, de juriste, de psychologue, de psychiatre ou encore d'artiste, cet ouvrage collectif se propose d'étudier en profondeur les multiples formes que peut revêtir ce sentiment de peur, sans omettre, bien sûr, de s'intéresser à ses conséquences sociétales au présent et, par conséquent, au futur que nous bâtissons en commun.

  Graphics of territories / Territories of graphics

  Le dessin contemporain s’émancipe du point, de la ligne, du plan pour prendre corps dans une nouvelle écologie de l’image. Du tracé de contour à l’intention - dans le sillage des acceptions du disegno de la Renaissance - il entraîne avec lui des représentations inédites du monde, de son exploitation et de ses possibles. En se désolidarisant du papier, il s’envisage sur de nouveaux territoires. De l’esquisse préparatoire aux installations graphiques, le terreau du dessin, son ancrage ne se réduisent plus à un support plat. Le tracé s’émancipe de la bidimensionnalité du subjectile qui lui est communément associée, pour se déployer dans de nouvelles dimensions, sur de nouveaux supports, par de nouvelles gestualités. Le dessin de l’espace et l’espace du dessin ouvrent ainsi à une réflexion sur les territoires physiques comme les territoires sensibles. Il engage de même une pensée du faire directement liée aux innovations technologiques, techniques, numériques, comme au déterminisme imposé à la ligne par une grammaire propre aux territoires et à la cartographie.

  Disguise, dressing-up and transformations

  Alors que notre travail en tant que chercheur·se·s est de classer, il s’agira ici d’étudier des cas de l’entre-deux au Moyen Âge : on se penchera sur la porosité entre différents groupes établis et les transformations, extérieures et intérieures, que cela implique. Il pourra s'agir de la transition d'une espèce à l'autre, d'un genre à l'autre, d'une espèce ou encore d'une ethnie à l'autre. Cette transformation de l'extérieur pourra notamment (mais pas seulement) passer par le déguisement ; quand la transformation est un passage d'un genre à l'autre, on parle souvent de « travestissement ». On prendra garde à ne pas considérer les trois termes « déguisements, « travestissements », « transformations » comme des équivalents : loin de les envisager comme synonymes, nous invitons à penser la relation extérieur/intérieur d'un·e individu·e de manière dynamique. Car modifier son aspect extérieur peut aussi permettre de révéler son intériorité réelle au monde, d'attester d'une transformation intime, ou d'accompagner cette transformation identitaire.
