  Les phénomènes artistiques ont suscité l’intérêt de chercheur·se·s de différents champs disciplinaires, « de la philosophie, à la sociologie, à la poétique, à l’esthétique ou à l’histoire » (Aron, Viala, 2006). Ce champ de recherche ne cesse d’approfondir les liens entre l’art et la vie sociale, entre créations individuelles et faits collectifs, mobilisant des approches socio-historique et sémiologique (Lahire, 2016 ; Martin 2016). La figure de l’artiste bohème libre de toute entrave persiste pourtant, et le mythe de l’autonomie de l’art reste largement répandu. Cette journée d’étude souhaite ainsi interroger les rapports des œuvres aux institutions.

  The power of corporate business has been a subject of intense debate and many social science studies since the 19th century. This conference is based on the idea that, not only has this power varied among industries, countries and different periods, but also that the way in which it is wielded has evolved over time. By bringing together scholars from various backgrounds within the fields of history, sociology, and political science, we intend to provide new insights on the multiplicity, depth and limits of the forms of influence that corporations, or the organizations furthering their interests – business associations, think tanks, communication or public relations agencies, foundations, etc. –, have on public policy.

  Global Justice and New international Ordrer: The Case of Sino-african Relationships

  The reconfiguration of the current world order within the contemporary international society constitutes the general framework of our reflection. Emerging countries such as Brazil, Russia, India and China aim to weigh on the course of history and to re-shape a balance of powers dating back to the end of the twentieth century. These countries intensify their external policies towards strategic areas rich in raw materials, especially in Africa, where Western nations also have interests. The persistence of global poverty, according to Pogge, refers to global justice, since this phenomenon results from a world order that structurally endorse an injustice which, furthermore, is not in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

  Examining the connections between rural land and violent conflict in Africa

  The goal of the issue is the foster dialogue between two fields of research whose topics overlap, but whose specialization limits their reciprocal enrichment research into wars in the social sciences on the one hand, and into land tenure dynamics and land related conflicts on the other hand. The issue will seek to combine contibutions from these two thematic fields, including both empirical knowledge about the complex ties between violent internal conflicts and the land issues affecting rural territories, and methodological ant theoretical approaches to better describe and analyse the dynamics behind the unstable or "hybrid" social changes produced by such conflicts in Africa.

  Global '68 - Solidarity in Alliance and Global History

  1968 was a year of offensives, uprisings, and demonstrations against capitalism and imperialism, for liberation and emancipation and the war in Vietnam was its epicenter. The events claimed many victories for democracy, equality, and emancipation, but also provoked deep, abiding repression. A counterfeit history has subsequently erased police violence and the deaths of participants, removed workers, women, students, and indigenous peoples from the picture, and eliminated anti-Americanism, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, as well as the profound influences of the wars and interventions in Algeria, Latin America, and Vietnam. “Global 68” will retrieve the aspirations, energies, memories, and histories of this worldwide movement and offer hope to a new generation of activists.

  On the outskirts of art, intervention and social justice

  Nouvelles pratiques sociales journal vol. 30, no. 2 (spring 2019)

  Quels liens existe-il entre art, intervention et justice sociale ? Que signifient les expressions : intervention, pratique, intervention individuelle, communautaire, engagement social, changement social ? Tout d’abord, comment définir « intervention » et « art » ? Une simple recherche Google recense au moins 29 synonymes d’intervention. Ici, nous explorerons les interventions visant le changement social. Donc, comment ceci s’articule-t-il ? Comment l’art intervient-il sur le social ? Comment le social peut-il être appréhendé par l’art ? Comment l’art et la culture conjugués à une approche de changement social peuvent-ils transformer des institutions, des pratiques ou à tout le moins en atténuer les conséquences difficiles ? Comment éviter l’instrumentalisation de l’art ? Comment parler de résistances et de résiliences ? Que veut dire Art, avec un grand A ?

  Sharing meals. Social aspects of eating and cooking together

  Eating involves many other dimensions than just ingesting food. It is especially a social act, as it involves the social position and relationships of the individual in all of the included practices: supplying, cooking, dressing, ordering, ingesting, clearing, washing-up, managing left-overs, etc.  This symposium offers to explore, with a social science approach, the different dimensions associated with sharing meals (non exhaustive): Cultural differences in the manners of sharing meals; Specificity of the sharing of cooking times regarding the sharing of meal times; Use of commensality as a social action mean; Symbolic representation of the benefits of sharing meals (psychological, physiological, social); Comparison of meals regarding other eating times (snacking); Political/Diplomatic use of meals; Organization, perception and role of meals in institutions (school canteens, hospital, nursing homes, prisons…).

  School policy, schools and school users in Sub-Saharan Africa (mid 19th century-1970s)

  Ce séminaire Politiques scolaires, écoles et publics scolaires (milieu XIXe siècle - début des années 1970) sera consacré à l’histoire de l’institution scolaire, de ses acteurs et de ses publics, à la réception de l’idée de scolarisation ou au « désir d’école » dans l'Afrique coloniale et immédiatement post-coloniale pour les ex-territoires britanniques, français et belges, entre autres, entre le milieu XIXe siècle et les années 1970 qui marquent un tournant par exemple au Sénégal, à Madagascar ou au Nigeria. A partir d'exemples ancrés dans une période, un contexte, un événement ou un pays particuliers, le séminaire permettra de comprendre dans quelles mesures les politiques et pratiques scolaires, les lieux de formation, l’investissement individuel ou collectif des multiples acteurs de la vie de l’école et leur vécu sont indissociables de la construction des sociétés en situations coloniales mais aussi des jeunes nations indépendantes.

  Insularities and enclaves in colonial and post-colonial circumstances

  Crossings, conflicts and identitarian constructions (15th - 21st centuries)

  Historically, archipelagos were considered as rehearsal spaces for new social constructions. Since colonization and, afterwards, colonialism and imperialism, many of them evolved in association with the strengthening of international networks, while others did not escape isolation and forced unequal integration in different spaces. On the other hand, enclaves were the outcome of historical circumstances, often externally decided, which prompted some degree of insularity regarding the immediate geographical surroundings. When those territories did not become independent, there were demands for autonomy or, at least, some underlying emancipatory and anti-colonialist feelings. Even when these feelings did not mobilize relevant segments of the population, they disclose the alterity – above all cultural – in regard to sovereignty.

  Gendering Humanitarian Knowledge

  Global Histories of Compassion from the Mid-Nineteenth Century to the Present

  The conference invites scholars to think about the notion of "humanitarian knowledge" in a multidisciplinary way, by combining perspectives such as gender history, the histories ofemotions and the body, literary and visual culture studies, global health history, as well as the history of institutions and their agents. All of them are useful to explore the transnational networks through which humanitarian practices and ideas have been promoted, disseminated and standardised.The conference brings together scholars interested in working on the history of humanitarian knowledge from a gender perspective. The interventions deal with stories of flesh and blood, which put women’s and men’s humanitarian experiences at their centre, in order to inscribe their local practices within a global history of compassion from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.

Elles réuniront des universitaires investi·e·s dans les études de genre et les études féministes, travaillant sur et depuis différentes sociétés méditerranéennes et ayant le désir de mettre en perspectives leurs travaux.

  A Century of ILO action, 1919-2019

  The International Labour Organization (ILO) is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary. For historians, sociologists, political scientists, lawyers, economists, and anthropologists working on the ILO, this is a unique occasion to re-examine its origins, assess its experience over the century, and reflect upon its future and its (challenged) influence today. This symposium aims to assess the academic knowledge currently available on the ILO. It will also include testimonies from different actors involved in the work of the ILO (directly or indirectly), in order to debate on the future of the organization. The scientific committee welcomes communications about other organizations whose activities are related to the missions of the ILO’s mandate. The symposium covers the period from 1919 to the present.

  The European actors of the "People's spring" 1848

  170th anniversary international conference

  Après le colloque du cent cinquantième anniversaire de 1848 organisé par la Société de 1848 et des révolutions du XIX^e siècle qui a marqué un important jalon historiographique, il a paru important, exactement vingt ans plus tard, de porter un nouveau regard sur cet événement majeur du XIX^e siècle, et cela en répondant d’abord au souhait maintes fois formulé par Maurice Agulhon d’en mieux connaître les acteurs, au moment précis où le Dictionnaire des dirigeants français de 1848 du Centre d’histoire du XIX^e siècle de Sorbonne Université et de Panthéon-Sorbonne, publié sous son patronage, constitue une nouvelle étape qui permet d’aller plus loin ; mais il s’agit aussi d’élargir la focale pour s’intéresser cette fois à l’ensemble du printemps des peuples. La question centrale de ces journées est ainsi : Qu’est-ce qu’être un acteur du printemps des peuples 1848 ?

  À la croisée d’interrogations touchant la sociologie de l’action publique, des rôles et des comportements politiques, ce colloque a pour ambition de faire le point sur le rapport du personnel politique à la démocratie et la participation citoyenne. Quel est le rapport des élu·e·s à la démocratie et à la participation citoyenne ? Comment perçoivent-ils leurs rôles de représentants, leurs statuts et leurs marges de manœuvre politiques ? Comment appréhendent-ils le rôle des citoyens en démocratie et les compétences qui leurs sont associées ? En quoi ces enjeux délimitent-ils différents profils d’élus et différentes trajectoires politiques ? Quels sont les rapports des élus et des organisations partisanes aux réformes institutionnelles démocratiques ou à la problématique et la « cause » de la démocratisation de la démocratie ? Telles sont les questions qui seront au centre de ce colloque.

  Frontiers and Border Regions

  La notion de limite d’État est présente dès l’Antiquité. En effet, l’Empire romain est bordé, à partir du I^er siècle, par un limes, ligne de postes fortifiés permettant de contrôler et de repousser les populations « barbares » vivant de l’autre côté. Par endroit, il s’agit d’une ligne continue. Ainsi, entre 122 et 127, l’empereur Hadrien fait édifier un mur de 117 kilomètres entre l’Angleterre et l’Ecosse actuelles. Au VI^e siècle, l’historien byzantin Procope de Césarée distingue bien la romaion gè (terre des Romains) et les autres régions situées au-delà. Le mot « frontières » apparaît en français au XIII^e siècle. Il dérive du terme militaire « front » désignant la zone de contact avec une armée ennemie. L’acception actuelle se fixe progressivement à partir du XIV^e siècle, à mesure que les pouvoirs étatiques se renforcent et qu’ils soumettent les territoires dépendant d’eux à des lois et à des impôts. Le progrès des techniques cartographiques et les travaux des ingénieurs topographes qui se développent à l’époque moderne permettent aux dirigeants de mieux définir les limites de leurs territoires et de mieux les contrôler. Cependant la fixation des frontières n’est pas uniforme dans le temps et, au XX^e siècle, certains pays, en proie à des difficultés politiques ou économiques, n’ont pas encore exactement précisé l’emplacement de leurs confins.
