  Ageing and the end of life today

  Deux constats sont encore insuffisamment pris en compte dans la recherche. D'une part, la grande longévité que connaissent bon nombre de populations aujourd’hui oblige à repenser la fin de vie, et notamment à ne plus la réduire aux derniers moments et à la mort. D'autre part, la diversité des parcours de vie conduit à de multiples façons d’être vieux et d’appréhender son futur et la fin de vie. Plusieurs méthodes, approches et connaissances sont requises pour éclairer cette évolution et cette pluralité.

  The perception of scandals and silences change over time. What was once a silence can now be seen as scandalous. The committee invites graduate students from any field to submit proposals on a range of subjects including (but not limited to): To understand and theorise historical and current events, characters, and movements considered scandalous as well as their evolution over time; To analyse and shed light on the silenced, the forgotten and the marginalised in history and historical research; To explore the historiographical and epistemological issues related more broadly to the concepts of scandal and silence, but also disruptive approaches to the humanities.

  Heritages values of 20th century architecture: what recognition?

  Critical review and international forward-looking vision

  The heritage values of 20th century architecture, whether they be cultural, social or technical, remain relatively complex to assess, and thus to share, due to lack of perspective and knowledge. The architectural and urban production of the second half of the 20th century was particularly prolific, sometimes remarkable, even exceptional. The energy, ecological transition, the changing habits and lifestyles are leading to the gradual transformation of this built heritage reaching to the end of its life cycle. Since the 1990-2000’s, a movement for heritage making has developed, which leads to many questions relating to possible and desirable developments of these architectural achievements. This  issue of  In  Situ  seeks  to  take a European or international critical perspective on the architecture of the 20th century and to highlight doctrines and positions adopted, practices and examples of schemes, policies or projects.

  Le programme interlaboratoire de la Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l’homme (MMSH) « Archives de la recherche » 2020-2021 s’intéresse à l’articulation entre archives et données de la recherche en s’attachant concrètement aux problématiques nouvelles révélées par la multiplication de créations de services d’archives au sein des établissements d’enseignement supérieur et de recherche. Le séminaire se donne ainsi pour objet de réfléchir aux questions de conservation, d’exploitation scientifique, de mutualisation de collection et de valorisation des fonds d’archives de la recherche déposées au sein des unités de recherche et de la médiathèque de la MMSH. Il abordera également, sans les opposer et de façon réflexive, les pratiques actuelles, de la « culture de l’archive » et de la « culture de la donnée ».

  The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference

  The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

  Mental maps": between memory transcription and symbolic projection

  TRANSCRIPT

  The notion of "mental maps" will therefore be considered according to two different meanings and uses: 1) the internal representation of a space travelled through (cognitive map) and 2) the representation of a set of entities or concepts (mind map). The terms "memory transcription" can be understood as the translation and recording on a graphic support of elements present in the mind. The terms of "symbolic projection" are conceived as the fact of externalizing by the means of signs or symbols on a graphic support, the two types of representation: the representation of a traversed space or the representation of a set of entities or concepts. The points of contact, crossover, reversal, between what could be called "representation of space" and "space of representation" are little explored. How can we better apprehend the complex notion of "mental map"? The question of memory transcription? Of the "symbolic projection"? Can we identify meeting points between these two polarities and if possible a continuum?

  Limits of humanity, machines without limits?

  The contemporary and robotic scene: exchanges and collaborations

  Il convient de constater qu’aujourd’hui de nombreux artistes introduisent des solutions robotiques dans leurs créations et interrogent ainsi plusieurs visions esthétiques et concepts trans- et posthumanistes. La scène du XXI^e siècle semble être à la pointe des développements actuels de la robotique, comme l’indique le nombre croissant des nouvelles productions dans ce domaine. Pour les roboticiens, cela se traduit par le développement de comportements sociocognitifs cohérents qui produisent chez les spectateurs une illusion de vie, un sentiment d'être en présence de créatures intelligentes et socialement conscientes. Dans les mêmes termes, la scène peut être considérée comme un espace privilégié pour l'étude des comportements humains, où différentes technologies peuvent être déployées pour capturer et modéliser les contingences sensorimotrices humaines. En conséquence, la scène devient un scénario semi-structuré idéal pour le développement de métriques, modèles, techniques et algorithmes capables de décrire l'interaction entre les humains et entre les humains et les robots socialement intelligents.

  Le 17 janvier 2020, la journée d’étude organisée à l’université Paris Nanterre, intitulée La marginalité comme modèle – Étude critique transdisciplinaire d'un paradigme des marges, réunissant des jeunes chercheur·se·s de diverses disciplines, a convaincu ses participant·e·s qu’un espace était disponible pour l’étude approfondie de ce « paradigme des marges » dans les sciences humaines et sociales. Les exposés des participant·e·s à cette première journée d’étude, jeunes chercheur·se·s en anthropologie, géographie, littérature, histoire et mathématiques, ont permis de dégager un certain nombre de pistes de recherches que nous voudrions explorer dans un séminaire mensuel, dont les deux fondements demeureront l’ouverture disciplinaire et le recul critique et méthodologique sur l’objet de recherche.

Historiquement, elle a connu des réalités et des perceptions bien différentes d'un monde à l'autre, d'une période à l'autre. Le colloque se fixe pour but d'interroger ce différentes réalités dans le temps et dans l'espace, mais aussi d'explorer cette notion dans l'imaginaire des sociétés.   Qui sont les futurs intervenants sociaux et les futures intervenantes sociales ? Dans quelles couches de la population se recrutent-ils et se recrutent-elles ? Quelles sont leurs motivations lors de leur entrée en formation ? Celles-ci sont-elles transformées ou confirmées par la formation dont ils et elles bénéficient ? Et dans chacun de ces deux cas, pourquoi et comment ? Et donc, peut-on caractériser finement le processus de formation qu’ils et elles rencontrent et peut-on répondre à la triple question : qu’est-ce que former un ou une intervenant·e social·e et s’il s’agit d’un processus, comment le définir et comment le caractériser ? Ou, pour le dire autrement, l’élaboration d’une identité professionnelle se fait-elle, dans ce secteur d’activités, au prix d’une modification de l’identité personnelle et, si tel est le cas, cette modification est-elle imposée ou subie et à travers quels mécanismes se met-elle en place ?

  Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Christian Initiation from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages

  On the occasion of this meeting dedicated to baptism and baptisteries, we intend to highlight the spatialization of baptismal rituals and their evolution between Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, by comparing different geographical areas within the boundaries of the Roman Empire and its neighbouring regions. Through the dialogue between written sources and archaeology, we would like to investigate whether baptismal practices could assert regional or confessional Christian identities.
