Les fonds photographiques
En précurseur du musée imaginaire de Malraux, Jacques Doucet jeta dès la fondation de la bibliothèque d’art et d’archéologie (BAA) les bases d’une vaste collection de photographies illustrant tous les domaines de l’art mondial. L’ensemble portant sur l’Extrême-Orient, complémentaire du fonds de livres et d’estampes, est exceptionnel par son ampleur comme par sa qualité, car il a été rassemblé grâce à un réseau de savants, de voyageurs et d’amateurs, dont de grands noms de l’orientalisme. Il n’a encore jamais fait l’objet d’une étude systématique. Pour mieux le connaître cette journée d’étude le comparera à des collections contemporaines de même nature, conservées en France ou à l’étranger, pour évaluer avec précision son contenu, établir ses modalités de constitution en reconstituant le réseau des « extrême-orientalistes » liés à la BAA.

Rethinking Knowledge, Reshaping the University
17th Annual and International Colloquium of the Society of Activities and Research on the Indian World
University is one of the places (among others) of training, production and transmission of knowledge. If the goal of training is to participate in the process of social transformation, universities are one of the "unconditional" spaces (in the words of Derrida) to exchange with one's contemporaries. University remains a place where people mix, where people meet and where hospitality as a value still holds true to some extent. These attributes can also make it a place that can generate power struggles by holding up a mirror to society.This conference will address some issues regarding the future of higher studies in India, and in the Global South: How to continue to "produce" and share knowledge in the face of endless liberalization? What choices, what paths, what research projects can be on offer in the training programs at universities in the 21st century? How can we rethink knowledge and reshape the university? How can we reinvent the missions of academic transmission and research to meet the challenges of our time and anticipate those of the next generations?

What do we picture when we evoke India? For its 20 th annual Workshop, The “Association des jeunes études indiennes” (AJEI) invites young researchers to share their knowledge and to propose a critical approach of the concept of ‘Images’ in the subcontinent: To what extent do images reflect the many realities and representations of India and how does the Indian imagery affect scholarly, artistic and touristic as well as political perceptions, from a western and an Indian point of view? The Workshop is aimed to develop a cross-disciplinary dialogue in social sciences for a better understanding of the multiple roles that Images have been playing from antiquity to nowadays in the perceptions and the foundations of culture and identities in Indian society. The aim is also to open some reflexive discussions on the use and construction of images.

Ce numéro de Géographie et cultures porte sur l’iconographie de l’Inde dans le contexte de la mondialisation. Our aim is to explore various facets of 19th and 20th century historical research about ancient mathematical sciences, especially those attested to by sources written in Chinese, the languages of the Indian subcontinent and cuneiform script.

Le séminaire annuel Jeunes Chercheurs de l’AJEI (Association Jeunes Études Indiennes) a pour objectifs la mise en relation de jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur l'Asie du Sud, qu'ils soient étudiants en master, doctorants ou post-doctorants, ainsi que la rencontre avec des chercheurs plus confirmés, autour de diverses thématiques. Cette année, pour la quatorzième édition, l'AJEI poursuit sa réflexion avec le thème « Normes, textes et pratiques en Asie du Sud », envisagé dans un cadre pluridisciplinaire, et qui pourra concerner à la fois les chercheurs s’intéressant à l’Asie du Sud contemporaine, et les spécialistes du monde indien « ancien ».

En prenant appui notamment sur son ouvrage Cognitive Variations (2007), nous souhaitons interroger le problème de la coexistence de causalités autour d’un même événement, en mettant en perspective des pratiques rituelles saisies en contexte divinatoire et des savoirs prédictifs constitués en corpus de connaissances.

The seminar will address the following issues regarding scientific sources: how textual sources bear witness to the social groups that produced them; How textual sources testify to knowledge; history of compilations How actors structure their texts and knowledge into parts; how textual sources reflect the material environment in which they were produced.

Actualité et pluridisciplinarité des recherches sur l'évolution de l'homme en Asie continentale
Au cours de ce séminaire, quatorze spécialistes (paléo-anthropologues, généticiens, paléontologues, préhistoriens, géo-chronologues) croiseront leurs données pour reconstituer deux millions d'années de peuplements humains en Asie continentale, de la Turquie à la Corée du Sud en passant par la Chine, l'Inde et les pays de la péninsule indochinoise. L'abondance des découvertes et l'intensité des études dans cette partie du monde, ainsi que les progrès méthodologiques récents, ont en effet considérablement renouvelé ce champ de recherche.
