Aquinomix - Thomas Aquinas' economic thought: an interdisciplinary approach

To mark the eighth centenary of the birth of Thomas Aquinas, the Centre d'études du Saulchoir, a multi-disciplinary research centre run by the Dominicans of the Province of France, and the PHARE research centre at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, which specialises in the history of economic thought, in partnership with the Commissio Leonina, in charge of the critical edition of the works of Thomas Aquinas, and the Société thomiste, intend to offer this conference as an opportunity for an interdisciplinary encounter centred on the economic thought of Aquinas. Honouring an interdisciplinary approach to the economic thought of Thomas Aquinas, the conference will address the historical dimension of the texts and their context, the philosophical and theological dimension, the dimension specific to economic analysis and the practical dimension.

Towards a history of the economies of sub-Saharan Africa, from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century

Revue « Afriques. Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire »

In this issue, we wish to focus on historical approaches - in the broadest sense of the term - which aim to understand economic mechanisms in relation to political, cultural and social phenomena within African societies and in the context of their times, without necessarily addressing their potential links with the present. We wish authors to focus on economic processes that were internal to societies, including interactions with external institutions (and especially imperial institutions), provided that these interactions shed light on the workings of African societies. Our goal is also to consider the documentary challenges facing historians.

La revue GéoProximitéS, revue de géographie et sciences sociales à comité de lecture, lance un appel à articles sur le thème « Industrie, proximité, territoires ». Cette question de la proximité et de l’industrie au sein de territoires spécifiques, s’inscrit non seulement dans une profondeur historique longue, mais se renouvelle aujourd’hui autour de thématiques porteuses telles que le Systèmes Productifs Locaux (SPL), les circuits courts ou encore les mises en place de filières plus locales où la proximité est vue comme un avantage décisif, notamment en matière environnementale sinon économique, voire culturelle. Ainsi la proximité en lien avec l’industrie peut-elle être entendue non seulement comme pragmatiquement spatiale, mais aussi autour de questions économiques ou de questions culturelles et sociales.

Acteurs, dispositifs et publics concernés dans les politiques d’emploi et d’insertion professionnelle

Ces journées d’études visent à réunir des chercheuses et des chercheurs dont les travaux portent, d’une part, sur les dispositifs et les acteurs de l’insertion professionnelle et des politiques de l’emploi (visant spécifiquement, ou non, les personnes handicapées ou les personnes concernées par des problèmes de santé), et d’autre part, sur les publics en situation de handicap ou de maladie chronique qui y ont recours ou y sont orientés. Elles visent ainsi à faire dialoguer les travaux portant sur les deux côtés du guichet, et permettront de documenter tant les parcours des personnes concernées, que les pratiques des professionnel·les à leur égard.

Working Group on ‘Risk, Health, and State Socialism: Central and Eastern Europe, 1950s-1980s’

While much of this historiography has focused on liberal democracies, less attention has been given to how concepts of risk operated in state socialist contexts. Building on recent studies in the history of medicine and health, we invite scholars to join a working group examining risk, health, and medicine under state socialism in Central and Eastern Europe. To what extent did state socialist regimes recognize certain health and medical issues as ‘governable’ through risk? What kinds of practices and ideas emerged in response? And were there differences or similarities between state socialist and liberal democratic models of risk in healthcare and medicine? Our aim is to take an exploratory approach to discuss whether, and in what contexts, the concept of risk can be applied to state socialism, and to examine the risk-related practices, ideas, and technologies observed in healthcare and medicine in state socialism.

The study of economic knowledge and its political influence has largely focused on central sites of power and on its academic production. This conference seeks to broaden that perspective by examining marginalized economic knowledge and the dynamics of its (de-)marginalization. It will specifically address the development of lay or relegated economic theories and practices, considering their logic of legitimation, the actors, spaces, and actions that generate them, and their relative autonomy. The conference will concentrate on the long twentieth century and welcomes proposals from all disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.

Revue « Communications » (2026)

Qu’est-ce qu’un hybride ? Au sens propre, ce terme désigne un être biologique né de deux individus appartenant à des espèces distinctes. Par métaphore, il s’applique aujourd’hui à de multiples domaines culturels et sociaux. Dans ce volume, nous nous proposons d’interroger la signification première de ce concept, en explorant ses usages en biologie et ses retombées en paléontologie humaine et en préhistoire. On interrogera également ses utilisations en anthropologie. Enfin, nous pourrons relier ces interrogations aux tendances modernes à la valorisation esthétique de l’hybridité, dans le champ artistique, en particulier muséal. Nous attendons spécifiquement pour cet appel des propositions portant sur l’histoire des savoirs et des concepts scientifiques en rapport avec la notion d’hybridation, ou encore sur ses usages dans les pratiques de l’agronomie.
