  AFIELD mentorship program (2019)

  For the first time AFIELD launches an open call to support 3 individuals engaged in social and artistic experimentation. They will be granted seed funding to develop their initiatives and advice from a mentor chosen with them within the AFIELD network, for a period of 18 months. Initiated in 2014 by Council and supported by Tsadik Foundation, AFIELD is a network, a fellowship and an advocacy program for social initiatives from arts and culture. Each year the program supports artists, researchers or activists committed to a long-term social initiative by identifying 2 fellows and 3 mentees.

  Le septième symposium scientifique de l'université de la Manouba interroge le binôme masculin / féminin. Comme lors des éditions précédentes, ce thème sera abordé avec le maximum d’ouvertures et de possibilités de comparaison pour dégager, en fonction des terrains, des études et des acquis enregistrés, à la fois les théories, les lois, les travaux et les pistes de recherche qu’inspirent les dichotomies « masculi n/ féminin » autant que « homme / femme » et « masculinité / féminité ». La nature de ces dichotomies et les différentes conséquences qu’elles induisent restent à replacer dans les divers contextes d’observation et d’énonciation. Toutes les disciplines apporteront des éclairages qui aideront à décloisonner les champs du savoir et contribueront à restituer la pluralité des regards afin de concrétiser la transdisciplinarité autour de ce thème.

  Textiles - a garden of Eden?

  Jusqu'à la révolution industrielle, le textile est lié à la nature pour ses matériaux et son iconographie. L'art des jardins dialogue avec celui des textiles et les deux se réinventent mutuellement. Cette influence peut être réaliste, imaginaire ou symbolique. Si les végétaux sont généralement représentés sur des surfaces planes, ils sont parfois réalisés en trois dimensions, en ameublement comme dans l'habillement. Qu'en est-il de nos jours ? Cet art en voie de disparition est encore pratiqué seulement par quelques artisans au savoir-faire précieux. Le monde contemporain a pris conscience des dangers d'une industrie textile très polluante. Comment les acteurs peuvent-ils concilier environnement, éthique et esthétique dans la production et la création ?

  The construction of reality in the post-truth age

  We invite papers for the 25th issue of the intersdiciplinary academic journal Interstudia, based at the Faculty of Letters, Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau, Romania. The proposed topic for this issue is "The construction of reality in the post-truth age". We will accept articles written in English, French, Italian and Spanish whose main points of interest will be related to ideas deriving from these following themes for reflection: the role of language in the construction of post-truth, the manipulation of emotion in the media, ethics and post-truth, the role of humanities in the preservation of human values, truth versus opinion in the post-truth society, the relation among data, information and knowledge, ICT and post-truth, the role of numerical devices in the propagation of post-truth attitudes. These are only suggested topics, and should not be considered exhaustive. authors should be free in choosing their topic of research within the frame offered by the general title.

  Norms, constraints, and margins of freedom

  Film industry in the Arab world remains generally underdeveloped. Arab countries still depend on international film support funds, mainly European. This puts Arab producers, scriptwriters and filmmakers in a subaltern position in relation to European producers and funders, whose expectations in terms of content and narrative forms end up strongly impacting the film creation process. On the other hand, margins of freedom and resistance can be created within this system. This conference aims at addressing the complex relation between Arab cinemas and international film support funds.

  L’apartheid des arts apatrides ?

  Comment l’artiste en exil fait—il rimer migration avec création ? Qu’elle soit choisie ou subie, la migration engendre différentes émotions. Le migrant, l’exilé, peut décider de les traduire sous une forme artistique : joie, surprise, mal-être, colère. Aussi le papier, le son, la matière en général deviennent-ils une forme d’exutoire à la démarche et à la souffrance migratoire. C’est l’occasion pour le public de l’exilé d’accéder aux différents regards qu’il porte sur son pays de départ et son pays d’accueil, des visions qui modèlent l’horizon d’attente, donc la pertinence, la pérennité et l’intégration de l’œuvre dans le monde des arts. Ainsi l’exil qu’il soit vecteur de création ou qu’il la réduise à néant, donne lieu à une nouvelle forme d’art : l’art de l’exil, pour apprendre à voir et montrer l’invisible.

  Si les animaux habitent l’imaginaire des hommes, ils peuplent également leurs musées, éco-musées et monuments historiques, tantôt considérés comme des créatures « nuisibles », tantôt valorisés comme objets de collection ou supports de création artistique. Tandis que les trophées de chasse, momies et autres spécimens naturalisés ont suscité des études variées, aussi bien du point de vue de la conservation préventive que de la muséologie ou de l’anthropologie, la présence d’animaux vivants dans le cadre de lieux patrimoniaux a souvent été approchée sous l’angle unique de la nuisance, et ce au détriment d'une analyse plus vaste de leur cohabitation avec les visiteurs et les professionnels du patrimoine.

  Cette manifestation scientifique s’inscrit dans le cadre du projet « Patrimoines et territoires : mémoire du travail en Roannais ». Nous proposons de questionner les liens qui s’établissent entre patrimoines et territoires : en quoi le patrimoine est-il un moyen de valorisation et de définition du territoire comme espace approprié, utilisé et délimité ? Si le processus de patrimonialisation peut concourir à valoriser son objet, voire lui donner une dimension symbolique, il peut également en faire un levier constructif et une ressource pour le territoire. Le patrimoine n’est pas uniquement un legs du passé. Il peut devenir moteur pour l’avenir et fournir matière à penser l’évolution. Plus globalement, l’étude de processus de patrimonialisation mais aussi de certains objets patrimoniaux, peut contribuer à l’approche des identités territoriales.

  Crossing French Metropolises: Exiled Artists and Intellectuals during the 20th century

  Following “Arrival Cities: Migrating Artists and New Metropolitan Topographies”, the first conference of the ERC research project Relocating Modernism: Global Metropolises, Modern Art and Exile (METROMOD) held at the LMU Munich in November/December 2018, a workshop will be organized at the German Center for Art History (DFK Paris), on 4 July 2019. Building on common interests of the DFK Paris and METROMOD—such as movements of artists, ideas and productions—this workshop will focus on the temporary exile of artists and intellectuals in French cities throughout the twentieth century, which was marked by (e)migration waves. Located at the crossroads of disciplines such as Art History, Exile Studies, History of Sociology, Architecture and Urban Studies, this topic calls for a transdisciplinary approach.

  The undisciplined discipline: the challenges of Pop Cultural Studies

  This call for paper is for a workshop which it itself included in this year's international symposium of the AFEA (Franch Association of American Studies) which will happen in Nantes, France from May 22 nd to the 24th. This year's main theme of the conference is "discipline/indiscipline." (event for which you can find more information here: http://www.afea.fr/-2019-AFEA-Conference-Discplines-Indiscipline-.html) This workshop intends to address and explore further this binary dichotomy through the prism of cultural studies, interrogating more precisely if the emergence of pop cultural studies is truly something to advocate for. Communications can tackle this issue from a more theoretical standpoint, but they can also deal with more precise case studies which would illustrate how pop culture and cultural studies are both defying disciplinary classifications. Communications can be either in French or in English.
