“Bad Kind”: The dark energy of the literary system
La question de la valeur littéraire a longtemps été au cœur des débats esthétiques, et même si depuis l’instauration de l’autonomie littéraire aux XVIIe-XVIIIe siècles, le discours théorique s’est attaché à remplacer les notions de « beau » et de « bien » par des notions en apparence plus objectives telles que l’originalité, le style ou l’intention artistique, il paraît évident aujourd’hui qu’on n’est pas parvenu à séparer la beauté des logiques pragmatiques, éthiques ou idéologiques qui sous-tendent l’étude des œuvres d’art. Il se révèle donc aussi difficile d’évacuer définitivement le concept de valeur littéraire que d’aborder de front le problème de sa définition. C’est à cette aporie que nous tenterons de réfléchir en abordant, sans parti pris, la question du « mauvais » en littérature.

"Blue and white" - Chinese-style
Porcelain and earthenware - between visual sources and material realities (16th-18th century)
La production de « bleu et blanc » chinois ou « d’inspiration chinoise » constitue un objet d’étude significatif. Ces fameuses porcelaines, fabriquées notamment à Jingdezhen (Jiangxi) durant l’époque Yuan, ont commencé à circuler au sein des cours européennes à l’aube du XVIe siècle. C’est seulement au cours du XVIIe siècle qu’elles furent l’objet d’un engouement plus large donnant lieu à la fabrication de copies sous la forme de céramiques de diverses qualités. De cette nouvelle « mode » sont nés des substituts inspirés des modèles chinois, accessibles aux bourses les plus modestes. Ainsi est apparu l’épiphénomène des faïences dites « au goût de la Chine ».

The development of art history as a discipline during the 19th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19th century.

1st East and West Conference on Translation Studies
This conference aims to provide a biannual forum for East and West dialogue on Translation Studies. This inaugural edition will be dedicated to “Translation History Matters” and welcomes contributions addressing issues related (though not circumscribed) to translation history, historiography and metahistoriography. Centred on translation understood as an intentional phenomenon of human and mostly intercultural communication, this conference aims to focus on the role played by translation in Eastern and Western cultural practices and encounters through history as well as on the role of history to understand both translation and translation studies. By bringing together Eastern and Western views on a multitude of translation history matters, this conference aims to stress why, how and for which purposes translation history matters.

Spaces of German colonial experience: exchanges, transfers and circulations (1850-1950)
En s’ouvrant aux démarches de l’histoire globale et transnationale, la recherche historique sur l’expansionnisme allemand a connu, au début des années 2000, un profond renouvellement : après avoir été longtemps marqué par une spécialisation géographique étroite et un certain eurocentrisme, ce champ historiographique se caractérise désormais par des tentatives de plus en plus nombreuses visant à restituer, dans un cadre spatial élargi, le jeu complexe des interrelations entre les différentes scènes de l’impérialisme allemand. Profitant de l’impulsion donnée par une série d‘études pionnières, l’atelier que nous proposons invite doctorants et post-doctorants à présenter leurs propres travaux sur ces thématiques.
