  Body, sport and nudity

  Il s'agit de cerner la dimension contemporaine d'un projet d'appropriation et de production du corps par la rationalité, qui est aussi projet de construction identitaire. Dans ce sens, le rapport au corps, les manières de le montrer et de le dévoiler, mais également de le couvrir et de le cacher, constitue un sujet remarquable pour l'analyse sociologique, anthropologique, géographique, économique, etc. Dans ce colloque, il s'agira de mettre en relief les comportements qui consistent à montrer son corps ou, au contraire, à le dissimuler. Les deux thèmes proposés ci-dessous ne sont que des suggestions et des exemples des sujets qui pourront être abordés, et ne sont en rien limitatives aux propositions attendues.

  De Gruyter's

  De Gruyter and the team of the Art Market Dictionary (AMD) are currently looking for authors interested in contributing to their encyclopedia project. The AMD is the first reference work providing encompassing information on commercial art galleries, dealers, auction houses, fairs and advisers in Europe, the USA and Canada in the 20th and 21st centuries. Due to appear in 2020, it will be published in print and as an online searchable database. It is edited by Johannes Nathan and supported by a number of specialized institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, or the Archives of American Art.

Ce colloque vise à explorer les possibilités qu’offrent les différents instruments de la politique fiscale pour répondre aux défis actuels de la justice sociale. À cette fin, le colloque invite les contributions qui portent sur ces instruments, leurs modalités et leur faisabilité. Cela peut concerner l’impôt progressif, ses justifications et ses réformes, les débats autour de l’impôt sur les successions, la nécessité ou la réalisabilité d’un impôt sur le capital, ou porter encore sur toute autre forme d’impôt sur la richesse, inédite ou non.

During periods of transition warfare had a crucial role in medieval societies. Following previous meetings in Leeds (2016), Lisbon (2017) and Brussels (2018) the 2019 Medieval Culture and War Conference will be held in Athens in the Faculty of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The conference will focus on ‘Transformation, Renovation, and Continuity’.

  The Routes of Medieval Africa

  11th-17th centuries

  This symposium will take stock of the theoretical ambition of this programme, relative to the disciplinary tools available to us today, to disclose, to distinguish and above all to ponder the historical connections established. If the plants, epidemics, commercial goods or written materials are proof of often-forgotten connections, they inform us only indirectly on the intensity and consequences of these economic, political and cultural connections for the societies of Southern, Eastern or Western Africa. Starting from this observation, the historians, archaeologists, linguists, and philologists involved in this release will reflect on multidisciplinary models that go beyond the observation of a connection and switch towards a more integrative concept of “route,” understood, in the broader sense, as a connection in progress. I this respect, the third and final objective of this symposium will stimulate further reflection on the routes that crisscrossed medieval Africa, and the practices, mobilities, and representations that they created.

  L’objectif de la conférence sera d’analyser les traits caractéristiques propres à l’industrialisation française du XIX^e siècle et de comprendre comment ceux-ci la différencient des pays qui s’inscrivent dans ce même processus à la même époque. Plutôt que de prendre – comme il en est coutume – pour seule référence le cas anglais, une attention toute particulière sera portée à la comparaison entre la France et d’autres pays d’Europe continentale, en particulier l’Allemagne. Une dimension importante des trajectoires nationales d’industrialisation est leur inscription dans un contexte international et transnational : dans le cas de la France, le rôle de l’Empire colonial est indéniable.

  Dans une région profondément bouleversée par la Grande Guerre, où le retour à une vie normale s'est fait en surmontant d'innombrables difficultés, la Société historique de Soissons organise un colloque consacré à l'étude de cette reconstruction. L'étude ne se limite pas strictement au département de l'Aisne, mais s'étend aux départements limitrophes. Ce sujet comprend notamment le rôle de l'État, les initiatives privées, notamment l'action des coopératives de reconstruction. Parmi les nombreux angles d'étude possibles, on peut citer les aspects humains, sociaux, économiques, financiers, architecturaux et patrimoniaux. Les questions démographiques, la santé et l'hygiène seront aussi au coeur du colloque.

  Les finances de la défense ont longtemps été considérées comme en marge des finances publiques. Leur étude offre cependant un point de vue décalé, éclairant et instructif sur l’ensemble du système financier. Le thème de ce colloque propose d’analyser ce qui constitue, en droit et en pratique, cette spécificité financière. Il se veut volontairement interdisciplinaire, proposant des sessions à chaque fois composées d’historiens et de juristes. Il souhaite également replacer dans une perspective historique nombre de sujets juridiques d’actualité. La défense est entendue au sens large, comprenant ainsi, par exemple, les industries d’armement ; la sécurité quant à elle inclut ici les missions de la gendarmerie, de la police nationale mais aussi des douanes.

  Craftsmen and metalworking in medieval cities: 35 years later

  In honour of Professor Paul Benoit

  The symposium addresses themetallurgies of iron, copper, tin, lead and precious metals, which produced a wide variety of objects necessary for urban life at the end of the Middle Ages. The nature, volume and possible standardization of production may be studied, as well as the needs of the city, the practices and techniques of craftsmen, their knowledge and know-how. The relationships between the crafts and between the craftsmen themselves might be examined, including dependency links, pluriactivity, networks of sociability or local relationships in urban areas. The identity and regulation of these crafts, their integration into urban society, their relationship with the surrounding rural areas and with other cities may also be revisited. The symposium will be interdisciplinary in nature, promoting dialogue between historians, archaeologists and archaeometry, without excluding anthropological approaches to learning and knowledge

  This international workshop proposes a collective work at the crossroads of the different economic, political, family, military and cultural networks which constituted the changing and complex context of the life of Ambrogio Spinola, a man of immense fortune and unknown military qualities. His framework? Italy, Flanders, Spain. Scholars with different, although complementary, historiographical approaches will gather around Spinola, aiming to publish a collective biography in 2020. This biography will be the result of an interdisciplinary work, mixing the knowledge of historians of the military, diplomacy, aristocracy or economics, but also using the history of news (creation and circulation), written and pictorial culture, or gender history.
