Life between construction and destruction: Forms, rules and norms
Aside from the biological processes to which it is subjected from birth to death, human existence is characterized by the permanent effort all individuals and groups make to influence and control these processes, in order to live together. Whether occurring during a rite of passage or whether part of the interactions of everyday life, this construction invites us to question the various manners forms are made – be them “Life Forms” or “Forms of Life” – by carefully looking at the diversity of processes through which norms and rules become established .

Thinking and writing the history of psychoanalysis and the humanities
The work of John Forrester
John Forrester (1949-2015) fut l’historien de la psychanalyse le plus marquant de sa génération. Depuis sa thèse sur les rapports entre les sciences du langage et la psychanalyse il s’attacha à inscrire celle-ci pleinement dans l’histoire des sciences. Des rencontres décisives avec Thomas Kuhn, Michel Foucault et Jacques Lacan scandaient son parcours et inspiraient sa manière inimitable de faire dialoguer dans ses travaux et dans son enseignement plusieurs approches et traditions intellectuelles. Professeur au département d’histoire et de philosophie des sciences à l’université de Cambridge, sa renommée était internationale, la plupart de ses travaux étant traduit dans une dizaine des langues. Ce colloque est un hommage au travail de John Forrester : il présente les acquis et les ouvertures d’une œuvre qui nous invite à penser et à écrire l’histoire de la psychanalyse et des sciences humaines d’une nouvelle manière.

Since its birth, logic has been concerned with the study of correct reasonings or, more specifically, of proofs. A proof should have the epistemic power to provide us with justification for the judgement or assertion which it ends with. This power is, from a different point of view, the power to compel one to accept the conclusion of the proof. Which forms of reasoning can be said to have such power? And above all, how can they exert an epistemic compulsion? According to Descartes, a correct reasoning is nothing but a chain of valid inferences. The epistemic power of proofs should therefore depend on the epistemic power of valid inferences. The problem then becomes: what is an inference? And why valid inferences have an epistemic force? These question, far from being psychological in nature, involve epistemology, logic and mathematics.

Form und Leben. Morphologie als Paradigma zwischen Philosophie und Wissenschaft
Tagung des DFG-Netzwerks “Morphologie als Paradigma” in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZfL Berlin
Die Tagung eröffnet die Forschung zum Begriff der Morphologie im Rahmen des DFG-Netzwerks »Morphologie als Paradigma«. Im Horizont der namensgebenden These werden hier zur ersten Orientierung kultur- und naturphilosophische sowie poetologische und lebenswissenschaftliche Verwendungen von morphologischen Modellen ins Gespräch gebracht. Dabei soll zum einen der Modellfunktion der Morphologie bei Ernst Cassirer, zum anderen der Frage nach Parallelen bis in die moderne funktionsbiologische Disziplin Raum gegeben werden. Letztlich steht damit in kritischer Auseinandersetzung auch zur Debatte, ob hier möglicherweise ein Ansatzpunkt zur Redefinition der Aufgaben und Methoden der Kulturphilosophie liegt.

Ecology - a political history - from local to global
Du local au global
L‘écologie politique en histoire contemporaine apparaît comme un domaine global par excellence. Qu’il s’agisse de la pollution des eaux ou de la menace radioactive, du dépérissement des forêts ou des marées noires : nombreuses sont les préoccupations environnementales qui se situent sur une échelle supranationale, entraînant l’émergence de mouvements sociaux qui eux-mêmes s’organisent par-delà les frontières. De la même façon, les organisations environnementales internationales, ou encore l’opinion publique mondiale, ont aujourd’hui un impact à l’échelle du globe. Pourtant, nombre de questions et de contestations associées aux défis environnementaux trouvent leurs origines dans un contexte régional, voire local, qui dépasse fréquemment le cadre strict de l’État-nation. La formation des mouvements environnementaux précoces au début du XXe siècle, ou la genèse d’une conscience écologique à partir des années 1970, en sont de bons exemples. Notre journée d’études vise à analyser l’écologie politique en période contemporaine dans une perspective qui cherche le « local » dans le « global » et vice versa.

The International Festival of African psychology is a huge scientific and cultural interdisciplinary event. This annual activity will be held on this topic: how specific culture and knowledge shape the psychology of African descendants. The aim of this festival is to advocate and bring awareness to the population, so that this approach could be integrated in a global theoretical frame when it comes to conceptualize psychological phenomenon and mental cares. This festival is brought to you by SITWOMAFRIKA, a Research Institute on Trauma Related to Slavery Experience & African Psychology in collaboration with the Institute of Research and African Studies in Haiti at the State University of Haiti (IERAH/ISERSS), and the Psychosocial Department at « Zanmi Lasante »/Partners in Health. This year, we will organize a series of three scientific, artistic, and cultural days activities from May 27 to 29 to shed light and elaborate on today psychological and psychopathological effect of trauma related to past slavery . As a consequence of this event, a discipline of psychology rooted in African philosophy or African centered would be able to (re) emerged.

Powers of Imagination. Historical Approach
The concept of imagination is today seen as as a legitimate object of study, having long been discredited by scientific research. However, in modern and contemporary literature, imagination is generally considered in a negative way, as a mental faculty that can cause disease, error, illusion or sin. By cons, its role was very important, because the imagination formed the necessary link between body and soul. So that was the preferred place to act to perform bodily healing as well as spiritual. We would go against this idea of imagination by studying intellectual tradition and alternative and misunderstood practice. Since the XIIth and XIIIth centuries until the early XIXth century, thinkers and practitioners from a diverse set of disciplines, expressing themselves from different institutional positions, supported the idea that imagination has great powers on the body and on the body and mind of others.

This monthly seminar will aim to invite researchers to come and present their work in progress or recently published that address the "Arab mathematics", understood in a broad sense to be studied not only mathematics itself, but science "mathematized" of the era, such as astronomy, optics and static; Furthermore, we do not restrict themselves to only written in Arabic mathematics, but we can address their writings in other languages extensions, like Latin, Hebrew and Farsi. Les organismes vivants recèlent de nombreux éléments modifiables, reproductibles et conservables, qui sont les supports de pratiques scientifiques, médicales, agricoles, industrielles. Les « ressources biologiques » jouent, et sont appelées à jouer, un rôle croissant au sein d’une « bio-économie » qui se développe autour de l’usage de matériaux de diverses origines (humaines, animales, végétales, microbiennes). Dans ce contexte, il convient d’être attentif au fait que ces ressources sont moins des entités toutes faites que des produits élaborés par l’activité humaine en vue de finalités variant selon les contextes culturels et économiques. En portant l’attention sur les biobanques, nous souhaitons explorer la diversité des modalités de reconfiguration du vivant qui sont à l’œuvre dans ces pratiques de production et de mise en circulation.

Why living matter is worth its conceptual and synthetic challenge?
The emergence of life on Earth has long been a major field of questioning for humans. Indeed living matter has always appeared highly singular against the background of “inert” matter so as (i) to interrogate its emergence and (ii) to attempt to convey its original features to inanimate objects. In the course of the XXth century, both latter perspectives have started to be interrogated at the cellular level with a continuously increasing content of information about the molecular components of living cells as well as about their interactions and reactivity. Two different perspectives have been adopted, focusing either on the formation of cell components, or on the onset of cell dynamic organization.

Policies and expedients of a new visual epistemology in nature sciences (1740-1840)
L'épistémologie visuelle subit, au XVIIIe siècle, de nombreux bouleversements. Dans l'espace des sciences de la nature, le perfectionnement de la microscopie et l’intérêt croissant pour les micro-organismes, notamment, conduit les savants à se pencher sur des objets invisibles à l’œil nu, dont l’identification peut s’avérer extrêmement complexe : comment décrire ce qui a été vu ? Comment diriger la vision d’autres observateurs vers les mêmes objets ? Les échanges sur le type de matériel à utiliser, les préparations à effectuer, témoignent d’une prise de conscience progressive de la complexité de l’acte d’observation ; celui-ci résulte toujours d’une forme d’apprentissage, déterminé non seulement par les circonstances concrètes de l’observation, mais également par la mise en place d’un langage, qui participe activement du processus de reconnaissance.

Although contact points exist between the fields of live performance and life sciences, misunderstandings can build on each other: how to put in place experience protocols for artists and researchers allowing them to study the implicit knowledge of performers ? What understanding do neuroscientists have of the potential variability of the results of one study involving actors from different acting schools ?
