  Fieldwork grants in South East Asia, 2018

  L’Irasec met à concours chaque année deux bourses d’aide à la recherche sur le terrain. Ces bourses s’adressent en priorité à des doctorant·e·s et à des post-doctorant·e·s français ou étrangers (inscrits dans une université française pour les doctorant·e·s ou associé à un laboratoire de recherche français pour les post-doctorant·e·s) poursuivant des recherches sur l’Asie du Sud-Est contemporaine. Elles sont destinées à mener des enquêtes de terrain sur la thématique du doctorat, approfondir des recherches déjà engagées en thèse ou entamer un nouveau terrain post-doctoral. Les problématiques doivent apporter une perspective originale et novatrice sur l’Asie du Sud-Est, relevant des champs disciplinaires suivants : sciences politiques, sciences économiques, sciences sociales (anthropologie, sociologie, géographie, droit, histoire contemporaine).

  An Environmental History of the Great War

  We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.

  Of the visible and invisible in the manufacture of the city and urban studies

  Epistemological and critical perspectives

  Cet appel à textes de la revue Territoire en mouvement s’appuie sur plusieurs hypothèses. Tout d’abord, bien des objets ou processus invisibles pourraient encore être mis en lumière pour ce qu’ils contribuent à la fabrique et au fonctionnement de la ville. D’autre part, considérant que ce qui est visible ou invisible ne l’est pas de fait, mais résulte de choix (in)conscients, la dualité visible/invisible comme clé de lecture permettrait d’interroger les processus de visibilisation et d’invisibilisation, et donc les rapports de forces à l’œuvre entre objets ou acteurs (institutionnels ou profanes). Cette perspective analytique est à même de mettre en lumière les valeurs qui concourent aujourd’hui, d’une part à la fabrique de la ville et d’autre part, à la production de la recherche urbaine de l’autre.

  Urban mobility. Practices, careers and contexts from the 17th century to the present day

  Organisé dans le cadre du programme de recherche Settling in motion et du laboratoire international associé franco-italien MediterraPolis, ce colloque interdisciplinaire a pour objet la mobilité intra-urbaine, de l’époque moderne à nos jours (mobilité résidentielle et déplacements quotidiens, de type pendulaire ou non). L’objectif du colloque est d’appréhender la mobilité en ville dans ses relations aux dynamiques sociales et urbaines, avec une approche centrée à la fois sur les individus et leurs pratiques de mobilité (relations avec le cycle de vie et la biographie) et sur le contexte spatial et historique. Le dialogue entre différentes disciplines scientifiques permettra de saisir des continuités et des ruptures au-delà de la périodisation classique pré-post Révolution industrielle.

Parce qu’il se déploie dans l’espace, parce qu’il mobilise des ressources urbaines, le street art mérite d’être appréhendé comme un objet ou un prisme d’étude de la géographie, capable de mettre en évidence la dimension spatiale de la pratique artistique aussi bien que les processus de fabrication des villes contemporaines par l’art et consécutivement par le tourisme. Le numéro 44 d’EchoGéo propose ainsi d’explorer la question du lien entre le street art et ses valorisations.

We want to gain a better understanding of the impact and consequences of inequality and uncertainty on the urban arena as much as the responses to current challenges in terms of  both informal and institutional practices.

  Home as a place for anti-Jewish persecution in European cities, 1933-1945

  Anti-Jewish persecution didn’t only happen in specifically designed or transformed spaces such as camps and ghettos. It invaded spaces of everyday life in European cities: public spaces, work places and private spaces such as homes. In this landscape not only Jews and agents of persecution appear but also their immediate residential environment: concierges, neighbors, nannies, landlords, property managers, sub-tenants, local administrations, etc. These figures have an essential place in the memories of Jewish survivors. Though, so far, scholars have hardly addressed their role. The spatial turn that occurred during the last fifteen years in Anglophone Holocaust studies focused on the symbolic places of genocide. It mostly neglected apartment blocks and ordinary cities as spaces of persecution. This conference thus intends to focus on urban housing as a place for anti-Jewish persecution.

  Acting in the city - art and politics in the urban space 3: day-to-day

  Le colloque « Agir dans la ville. Art et politique dans l'espace urbain 3 : du quotidien » entend dégager les formes de la manifestation quotidienne du pouvoir, entendu ici dans son acception la plus large, à travers les actes de résistance qu’il suscite au et dans le quotidien. Autrement dit, il s'agira d'étudier les reconfigurations que l'exercice quotidien du pouvoir impose aux modes ou aux pratiques de résistance, à même ce quotidien ou dans ses marges. Si l'exercice du pouvoir repose sur le quadrillage millimétrique des espaces de la vie quotidienne, celui-ci implique nécessairement des tactiques de résistance, des ruses, des pratiques « braconnières » (de Certeau) se développant à même les espaces communs ou, suivant le mot de Gilles Deleuze, une géographie des lignes de fuite.

  The impact of the Modern Movement and modernisation processes on rural landscapes in Europe and beyond is a widespread but little known, recognised or understood phenomenon which still exerts effects today. Within the third joint research programme of HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) dedicated to “The uses of the past” which started in 2016, this subject is now being studied through several lenses within the MODSCAPES project. MODSCAPES welcomes proposals (full sessions, papers, trainnig/workshop) to its mid-event event, an international conference dedicated to Modernism, modernisation and the rural landscape.

  Cette manifestation est dédié à l’architecture domestique et résidentielle protégée. Ces espaces bâtis seront questionnés sous différents angles : l’historique de la protection, la définition du corpus concerné (distinction entre monument et maison), l’échelle de la protection de l’architecture domestique et résidentielle (rapport entre le contenant, le contenu et le contexte), ses modalités de protection et de prescription au regard des outils anciens et contemporains, la nature de l’intervention sur ce bâti (entretien, projet de conservation-restauration). Ces différentes approches sont sous-tendues par des usages, des contextes historiques (notamment l’histoire urbaine), des critères socio-économiques et culturels.

  Depuis 2010, l’Association pour la promotion de l'enseignement et de la recherche en aménagement et urbanisme (APERAU) organise des rencontres doctorales destinées à mettre en exergue les recherches en cours ou finalisées (à Brest en 2010, Constantine et Aix-en-Provence en 2011, Lausanne en 2012, Aix-en-Provence en 2013, Rennes en 2015, Bruxelles en 2016, Aix-en-Provence en 2017).   Nowadays, new debates on post-growth economy are at stake, notably in reaction to the financial crises; in France, new forms of social and solidary economy (SSE) are emerging, challenging the neoliberal economic model. Meanwhile in the UK, the “transition movement” initiated by Rob Hopkins has increased in power through engaged citizen initiatives. These pave the way for a collective reflexion on post-growth We intend to contribute with this work to the exploration of links between civic initiatives and the new development modes they give shape to. This call for papers intends to contribute to the debate, while proposing a specific field of investigation: rural territories.

  Cathedrals and Mosques: Building Urban Memories and Landscapes in Southern Europe (12th - 14th centuries)

  This international conference will discuss interdisciplinary questions regarding the importance of cathedrals and mosques in the definition of memory and urban landscape in the medieval Mediterranean from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries. Our research aims at analysing the role these two buildings played in configuring the urban fabric of the Mediterranean world. One of our primary objectives is to understand how these buildings defined medieval landscape and urban space. How did they modify and condition the social and functional organisation of their urban surroundings? What architectural features contributed to their place in civic memory (decoration, architectural style and building techniques)? We are interested in the place they occupy in their cities’ urban planning and topography.

  Ce numéro de la revue Territoire en Mouvement propose de s’intéresser à ces villes de l’Est de la Méditerranée, à leur passé récent, à leurs difficultés et atouts actuels et à leur avenir, sous forme d’études de cas ou au contraire en développant des comparaisons ou des généralisations. Les concepts et schémas théoriques mobilisés pourront couvrir un éventail intellectuel très large, allant de la grille d’analyse des inégalités environnementales – pour les thématiques croisant social et environnement – à la théorie des capabilités d’Amartya Sen – pour les difficultés d’accès à certains lieux et biens –, en passant par l’écologie urbaine initiée par l’École de Chicago et bien d’autres cadres théoriques.

  Geomedia and the City

  Geomedia is an emerging concept that has been deployed to capture a particular technological condition, associated with recent rapid developments in digital technology. As such, it signals to the dialectics of locative media and the mediations of localities. However, the concept of geomedia carries deeper/wider ontological and epistemological registers that transcend the simple twining of geography and media. In this wider sense, geomedia gestures to the expanding interdisciplinary terrain at the crossroads of media studies and geography, where various ontologies and epistemologies of space/time, flows/mobilities and mediation/ mediatization come together. The aim of this special issue is to explore the urban as a key terrain where these ontologies and epistemologies are articulated.

  The Vodun/Orisha pantheon - an answer to the world issues of tomorrow

  Porto-Novo, Capitale du Bénin a été pendant trois siècles et jusqu'a l'arrivée du colonisateur français en 1894, le cœur du royaume de Xogbonou. Ce passé a laissé dans le ville les traces matérielles plus ou moins conservées et qui donnent à cette ville une attractivité singulière. Le colloque scientifique du Festival international de Porto-Novo est un moment de réflexion sur son histoire et les grands enjeux du développement. Le présent appel à communications se définit donc comme une contribution à une meilleure connaissances des enjeux mondiaux d'aujourd'hui et de demain, mais aussi comme l'opportunité d'une large réflexion sur le panthéon Vodùn / Orisha ainsi que leur réponse aux questionnement du monde.
