  Picturing the margins

  Peripheries, Minorities and Taboos in the films of Marcel Łoziński, Pál Schiffer and Želimir Žilnik

  The international conference bears a transdisciplinary outlook as it cross-references a variety of scientific fields (history of cinema, aesthetics, philosophy, history, political science, anthropology, sociology, etc.). A film retrospective of documentary films will be held at the Cinémathèque du documentaire (Centre Pompidou, Paris), as well as screenings followed by debates and panel discussions at Inalco in the presence of the filmmakers Marcel Łoziński and Želimir Žilnik.

Le deuxième volet concerne un appel commun entre la MSH Paris Nord et le campus Condorcet « Campus universitaires et territoires ». Enfin, le troisième volet est un appel commun entre la MSH Paris Nord et la Plaine Commune intitulé « Fabriquer la ville avec l’art et la culture ? ».

  Blank spaces: concepts and practices

  Le blanc est un concept majeur dans la réflexion sur les relations entre écriture et figure. Il renvoie, sans s’y réduire, au support sur lequel s’inscrivent le texte et l'image dans l’espace du livre, de l’estampe, de la peinture, de la paroi ou du mur. Souvent théorisé en Occident comme un vide, un manque qui s’oppose à la matérialité de la figure ou du signe écrit, il est pourtant susceptible d’assumer un rôle énonciatif, sémantique et plastique dont les artistes et les écrivains se sont souvent emparés, et qui reste à interroger. Ce colloque se donne pour but d’explorer la richesse conceptuelle de la notion de blanc, et la multiplicité des enjeux qu’elle ouvre dans l’étude des formes mixtes associant figure et support.

  Dans le cadre d’un partenariat entre le Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (Mucem) à Marseille et l’institut Sociétés en Mutation en Méditerranée (SoMuM) à Aix-en-Provence, il est proposé le recrutement d’un·e chercheur·seuse postdoctorant·e à compter du 1er octobre 2020. Le ou la postdoctorant·e mènera un projet de recherche sur le thème « Vivre en temps de crise. Une approche anthropologique par les objets », en lien avec un axe scientifique de l’institut SoMuM ainsi qu’une enquête collecte du Mucem. L’appel à candidatures est ouvert à toutes les disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales représentées dans SoMuM.

  Ce colloque souhaite explorer l'actuel écosystème transmédiatique afin de privilégier l'analyse des modalités de création, de production, de diffusion et de réception dans de multiples médias d'œuvres de fiction ayant en partage la représentation de la criminalité organisée. En effet, sans négliger les apports critiques déjà disponibles, il ne s'agit pas ici de se consacrer à des problématiques générales, de privilégier le débat sur les nouveaux usages transmédiatiques des histoires ou, comme cela a été fait à de nombreuses reprises dans la dernière décennie, sur la définition même de transmédialité. Il s'agit plutôt de tester les acquis et de faire avancer la réflexion in vivo.

  Language and Performance: Moving across Discourses and Practices in a Globalized World

  European Journal of Theatre and Performance

  The European Journal of Theatre and Performance is inviting submissions for its next issue. Against the backdrop of a deeply diversified and often divided global stage, this issue wants to reconsider the fairly strenuous debate on the relationship between language and performance, which has surfaced repeatedly yet in various guises in the field of the performing arts. The editors more specifically invite contributions that critically inquire into how language either enables or impedes the creation and development of performance works, the dissemination of scholarly research, or the reconciliation of local traditions with international tendencies in both the arts and academia. The overarching aim is to shed new light on the intricate connections between language and performance by focusing on the various ways in which performance always operates on the microlevel of concrete practices as well as in dialogue with the macrolevel of larger sociopolitical and cultural contexts.

  Tracing the city: city symphonies in reverse and the cinematic apparatus

  « La Furia Umana », numéro 40/2021

  What are city symphonies reflecting in their contemporary cinematic versions?  How are filmic dispositifscapturing and documenting the city as an entity which is both subjective and intersubjective? As Richard Koeck suggests, in his essay Cine-spaces : Cinematic spaces in architecture and cities (2012), it is perhaps from the vantage point of the of the simulacrum that we must understand cinema's inscription within the post-modern city. Indeed, what if we began to think about the city as a visual system based on movements, lights and bodies – one we could explore in a cinematic, cinetic or kinesthesit way? By using film as a lens through which to see urban spaces and places, it would be less a question of showing the placement of architecture, but of seeing how much post-modern architecture, for instance, is a cinematic phenomenon, an urban décor in motion (Las Vegas, Dubai, Macao…).

  Session at The Renaissance Society of America Annual Meeting 2021

  This panel aims to bring together coordinators of digital projects - completed or in progress - around the lexicon and the scientific edition of texts of artistic or technical literature, with researchers who have adopted this terminological approach to analyze in an innovative way well known or unpublished texts, related to the production, the practice of the arts and interpretative theories derived from practice and which marked the history of taste. The papers will aim to provoke discussions about the method, contributions and perspectives of the lexicographic approach in the artistic field, in an interdisciplinary logic, in order to federate language historians, digital humanities specialists and art historians.

  After a first edition around the theme "Education, pedagogy and training" held on March 5, 2020, we are pleased to announce that a second edition of the study day, "Circulation of knowledge around the Baltic Sea Region from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century" will be held. It will be held in Toulouse on Thursday 4 March 2021 and will be based on the theme : "Culture of power, power of culture. "This day is part of a desire to meet around a geographical area, the Baltic Sea Region (Northern Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden) in order to exchange between researchers and to highlight their work. It is aimed at both young Masters and more experienced researchers.

  Twenty years after the 9/11 attacks, the Universities of Toulouse (CAS) and Montpellier (EMMA) in the South of France are joining forces to organize an international interdisciplinary conference on these events. Its aim is to analyze, not only the events and their short-term consequences with a two-decade hindsight, but also the many ways in which those events have been perceived, represented, commented upon, co-opted or rewritten along the years. It also invites reflections upon the way in which some of these responses, representations or co-optations have been in their turn received, commented upon and used in this 20-year period.

  Au croisement de l’histoire de l’art et de celle des sens, nous proposons d’observer l’articulation entre la perception visuelle et celle des sens bas dans le lieu par excellence de l’évaluation et de la mise en récit de l’expérience esthétique qu’est la critique d’art. En nous attachant à la période allant de sa naissance à la fin de l’entre-deux-guerres, les évocations des sens bas pourront être saisies depuis les premiers débats publics sur l’art exposé (La Font de Saint-Yenne, Réflexions..., 1747) jusqu’à l’époque où les pratiques artistiques faisant délibérément appel à d’autres sens que la vue sont encore peu développées.
