  Territorial fractures, ruptures, discontinuities and borders: issues for planners

  The French-British Study Planning Group / Groupe franco-britannique de recherche en aménagement et urbanisme, has worked for 20 years on the building of networks and intellectual bridges between the communities of planning research and practice on both sides of the Channel. Since 2005 it has been formally constituted as a sub-group of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP). The potential retreat of the current United Kingdom from the European Union presents a new context and it is natural that the group should turn its attention to the territorial impacts which could arise as a result. It is also an occasion to reflect more widely on all forms of territorial discontinuities, ruptures and borders, including those at the national, regional and local scales, and which are of concern to planning research and practice.

  The atlas terriers of the Abbey of Herkenrode, in perspective

  Les sources iconographiques sont de la plus haute importance dans nombre de secteurs de la recherche scientifique : histoire, histoire de l'art, architecture, restauration, géographie, étude des paysages... En 2011, les Archives de l’évêché de Liège ont entrepris la restauration et la numérisation des atlas-terriers de l’abbaye des cisterciennes d’Herkenrode, sous Kuringen (Belgique, prov . Limbourg, cant. Hasselt). Cette institution a été fondée en 1182 par Gérard, comte de Looz. Au XVIIe siècle, l’abbesse Anne-Catherine de Lamboy (1653-1675) a confié au géomètre juré Pierre Meijsman le mesurage des biens et la réalisation d’un atlas (en cinq tomes) des propriétés de son abbaye. Le travail a duré de 1669 à 1685. Il a été poursuivi par d’autres géomètres jurés, G. Beckers (1733), G.E. Malo (1777) et Lambert du Bois (1762 et 1785). Le domaine de l’abbaye d’Herkenrode s’étendait sur une petite centaine de localités. Depuis novembre 2012, les atlas sont consultables. Le Studiecentrum Herkenrode et les Archives de l’évêché de Liège collaborent aujourd’hui en vue de développer la recherche sur ces atlas-terriers, notamment en organisant le présent colloque.
