CURE Summer School 2026 at Villa Vigoni
The second CURE Summer School will take place from 21 to 25 September 2026. We want to think “beyond division” and interested in examining cultural practices that aim to work through and dissolve existing divisions, and in those that seek – preventively – to stop division from arising in the first place. The keynote will be delivered by the writer Véronique Tadjo. Applications can be submitted until 25 February 2026. All participants will receive full funding for travel and accommodation.

Entendue dans une acception large, l’information peut être comprise comme un ensemble de nouvelles, de savoirs ou de messages collectés puis portés à la connaissance d’un public. Pour traverser les océans, l’information circule par l’intermédiaire de réseaux divers et variés, via des passeurs et passeuses qui peuvent la transmettre fidèlement, l’altérer ou la falsifier.

The Winter School “Being Citizen. Exploring the Concepts of Patria, Nation and Europe in the Italian Traditions” (9th-13th February 2026) is a project promoted by the University of Trento in partnership with ENS Lyon and KU Leuven. The school aims to offer a one-week advanced training school focused on the Italian philosophical traditions in the Novacella-Abbey, and is open to thirty master’s or PhD students and early-career researchers in philosophy, history, and literature.

European Summer Academy for Young Professionals
The German Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Genshagen Foundation are jointly organising the Summer Academy “Memories of Landscape. On Traces of Violence in Nature” for young professionals aged 25 to 35 from Croatia, France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and the Western Balkan countries, which will take place from 2-5 September 2025 at Genshagen Castle (near Berlin). The Summer Academy addresses the question of how landscapes become memory spaces of human violence – and how we deal today with these silent, often overlooked archives.

The Annual MUBIT Doctoral Workshop in Late- and Post-Ottoman Studies is a two-day workshop in Basel, Switzerland, designed for international doctoral students conducting research on the Near and Middle East. The workshop consists of a two-day, intensive program in which select students work closely with invited experts. Successful completion of the workshop entitles students to 3 ECTS credits. This year, we are thrilled to host Dr. habil. Nora Lafi of the Zentrum Moderner Orient, Berlin, to lead our 12th annual workshop on the topic of “The Ottoman Governance of Diversity.”

La mémoire n’est pas un phénomène qui se déroule uniquement selon un axe individuel et subjectif, comme l’ont démontré au fil du temps plusieurs chercheurs. En mêlant l’individuel et le collectif, mais aussi l’organique et le symbolique, ainsi que le culturel et le technologique, la mémoire, par la chaîne de transmission qu’elle permet, apparaît ainsi comme le fondement du lien avec notre passé (historique aussi bien que mythologique), et la condition de la reconnaissance de soi comme membre d’un groupe qui dépasse l’ici et le maintenant. Le projet de cette école d’été s’inscrit dans ce cadre théorique et vise à en développer quelques aspects concrets grâce à la déclinaison des théories et des pratiques de la mémoire, appliquées particulièrement à différentes facettes impliquées directement ou indirectement : religion ; culture matérielle et archéologie ; médias et technologie ; crises, catastrophes et résilience ; politique ; corps et neurosciences ; rapport nature / culture ; droit ; littérature.

Since 2003, our summer university has positionned itself as a leading platform for reflection on new research in Food Studies. After several thematic editions, this 2024 edition will continue its ambition to provide a resolutely broad overview of these fields of research from a multidisciplinary perspective. Over the last twenty years or so, new themes have emerged and given new impetus to research in food studies. How do they fit together within the various disciplines of humanities and social sciences, from anthropology and history to sociology and literary studies ? How can young researchers position themsleves in relation to the wide-ranging possibilities offered by this field of research ? Leading specialists from different disciplinary backgrounds will address these questions through the prism of their own research.

S’adressant aux doctorant·es de toutes les disciplines souhaitant renforcer leur formation en études genre, le BruLau offre quatre jours de formation interdisciplinaire, interactive et personnalisée avec des enseignant·e⋅s reconnu·e⋅s internationalement. Il offre un encadrement adapté tant aux doctorant·es au début de leur formation qu’à celles et ceux plus avancé·es dans leur démarche de recherche. As Inquisições Ibéricas sempre despertaram o interesse. Quer tenha sido nos autores que com elas coexistiram, quer na literatura, quer na historiografia, as Inquisições ibéricas marcaram indelevelmente os quotidianos das sociedades ibéricas e dos respectivos espaços do império. O Curso de Verão "As Inquisições Ibéricas: Fontes e Desafios" pretende refletir acerca da importância dos tribunais inquisitoriais nas sociedades do seu tempo e compreender as potencialidades do uso da documentação por eles produzida para o estudo dos atores sociais e de fenómenos que, em muitos casos, podem ser analisados de forma conectada. O curso reúne um conjunto alargado de especialistas nos estudos inquisitoriais, cujas intervenções demonstrarão as possibilidades do uso das fontes inquisitoriais. Dar-se-á atenção à necessidade de esta documentação ser usada muito além do estudo isolado das Inquisições, percebendo as suas articulações, enraizamentos locais e impacto em sociedades espalhadas pelo mundo.

By crossing different disciplinary, thematic and cultural approaches, the aim is to endeavor to map violence, to study practices, situations, experiences of violence and their arrangement in topographic, social and mental spaces. The objective is to favour the dialogue between different perspectives of research on violence and more particularly on extreme violence. Be it political violence, state violence, wars, guerrilla wars, revolutions, oppression, massacres, and domestic violence, since it is often -in these contexts- amplified, will also be broached. How are we to observe, define and analyse these violent phenomena? What are the methodological, epistemological and ethical questions specific to these particularly sensitive and fluid objects?

Whose Global History? Perspectives from the Global South and Beyond
This online Summer School seeks to question what Global History is primarily about, who it is written by, and who it is written for. By questioning the epistemic inequalities and exclusionary processes that shape the field, and considering actors, conceptual tools and historical positions that originate from different parts of the world, we aim to outline a global history that is meaningfully shaped by perspectives from the Global South.
