  Théorie et histoire à l'ère d'Alphonse X

  Ce colloque se propose de dévoiler les conceptions sur l'histoire qu'expriment les textes alphonsins, leurs modèles, leur originalité et leur influence, en projetant leur étude d'un point de vue comparatif, qui confronte les conceptions historiques à d'autres traditions (par exemple, la loi) et d'autres contextes. Il s'agit entre autres d'examiner la différence entre histoire particulière et histoire universelle et la tradition des deux concepts : le passage de l'histoire particulières aux chroniques particulières ; les relations entre l'organisation du récit historique et l'idée de translatio imperii ; la fonction et les implications de la chronologie ; ce qu'implique l'usage d'une langue romane dans l'écriture historique ; la formulation alphonsine de la théorie des Six Âges du Monde et la persistance et la fonction de ce sujet juqu'à 1350.

  The question of the emancipation of women in Italy (1815-1930)

  Le colloque sera centré sur les discours produits au XIX^e siècle et au début du XX^e siècle sur l’émancipation des femmes en Italie dans toute leur variété et leur complexité, y compris les discours opposés à l’indépendance féminine. On prêtera une attention précise aux multiples déclinaisons du féminisme en Italie (les revendications des écrivaines, des « émancipationnistes »-emancipatrici, ainsi que des défenseurs des droits des femmes) au-delà de la tendance hagiographique qui a consisté à présenter des biographies élogieuses et idéalisées des femmes d’action du Risorgimento, ainsi que des interprétations historiographiques qui ont souvent réduit les positions féministes aux revendications suffragistes. Les récentes recherches en histoire culturelle, qui ont considérablement élargi l’approche de l’histoire des femmes au cours de la période de la construction de la nation italienne, seront ici mobilisées pour faire émerger des lectures originales et présenter des pensées méconnues.

  Antiracism in France: issues, metamorphoses and controversies through the prism of the death of George Floyd

  "Cahiers de la LCD" journal, issue 15

  Avec le décès de George Floyd, les problématiques sociales et politiques liées au racisme ont relancé avec acuité le débat politique et intellectuel sur l’antiracisme, ses orientations et sa prise en charge par les politiques publiques. Telle une piqûre de rappel sur sa brûlante actualité, les circonstances et images médiatisées de sa mort ont provoqué une vague d’indignation et de protestation contre le racisme et les violences policières. En France, plus qu’une énième condamnation d’actes racistes, ces mobilisations ont connu un fort retentissement. Bien qu’elles prolongent, d’une part, des luttes plus anciennes, et doivent, d’autre part, en partie au moins être réinscrites dans un élan mondial de solidarité à l’égard du « Black Lives Matter », ces mobilisations françaises offrent l’occasion d’interroger dans ce dossier, la pensée et l’action antiraciste portées dans certains milieux, académiques, militants, médiatiques, etc.

  Warfare, Welfare, and Transformation of European Society in the 20th Century

  The workshop aims to study the transformative impact of 20^th century wars on European societies. The first research avenue emphasises a perspective “from below”, by focusing on the relations between society and State policy. A second strand aims to deconstruct the traditional view centred on the Nation-State, by analysing the phenomena of mobilisation, demobilisation and transformation according to infra-state (at micro and meso levels) as well as supra-state scales. The workshop shifts focus on social actors and “sectional interests” (e.g. unions, employers’ organisations, voluntary sector), and aims to discuss the impact of the war from a transnational and entangled point of view. As it calls into question the natural primacy of the scale of analysis of the nation-state, it questions the caesura between wartimes and post-war times to consider the processes of war exit (sortie de guerre) and those of social translation beyond the end of the fighting.

  The aim of this special number is therefore to bring together articles analysing the growth of Black Lives Matter (BLM) to a transnational movement. Contributions should show awareness of the concrete modes of circulation and appropriation, and to the repercussions of campaigns linked to BLM, but also of the historical and political ruptures and continuities implied and explained by them. Contributions bearing on the role of new information and communications technologies (NITC) and social networks, especially in the spreading of images (videos of police violence, artworks etc), and their role in the transnational development of the movement will be given close attention.

  Artistic Neighbourhoods between Tension and Cooperation

  The Artistic Space of Central and Eastern Europe in its Interactions with the USSR in the Interwar Period

  In the Interwar period the Soviet administration conceived a new type of cultural diplomacy with the aim of attaining political, diplomatic and propagandist ends. Historians have been mainly interested in cultural experiences and exchanges with Western Europe or/and with the United States, while neighbouring countries are often excluded from studies of these circulations. The workshop, which will take place on June 1, 2021 aims to revisit the artistic and cultural history of the interwar period from the perspective of relations between the USSR and Central and Eastern Europe, through the study of the international career of artists and works of art in the broad sense of the term (painting, sculpture and specifically graphic art productions). The goal of this workshop is to bring together young specialists (doctoral students and early-career researchers) in history of art, cultural and political history and visual studies around this complex, rich and little-studied topic.

  En début d’année prochaine, l’École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Strasbourg fêtera le centenaire de sa création. À cette occasion, une exposition intitulée « L’école d’architecture de Strasbourg (1921-2021) : une douce modernité en Alsace ? » se tiendra aux Archives de la Ville et de l’Eurométropole. Elle interrogera l’héritage (bâti et culturel) des protagonistes de cette école sur le territoire régional au cours du siècle écoulé par un éclairage inédit de ce patrimoine architectural riche, méconnu et peu valorisé. Cette exposition fera l'objet d’un catalogue augmenté de contributions relatives au contexte de la formation et de la production des architectes à Strasbourg depuis 1921, faisant émerger les spécificités du territoire alsacien.

  L'atelier jeunes chercheurs Pratiques des langues en contexte transnational s'inscrit dans le cycle de trois ateliers jeunes chercheurs (2021-2023) consacré aux pratiques transnationales émancipatrices et organisés successivement à Berlin, Bonn et Paris. Cet atelier est consacré au statut des langues et aux pratiques linguistiques dans les mouvements et/ou groupes transnationaux se revendiquant d'une éthique égalitaire, en s'appuyant notamment sur l'expérience de l'esperanto. Les langues d'échange des communautés en migration ou en diaspora offrent aussi un terrain particulièrement riche pour l'analyse de ces circulations et usages linguistiques à l'échelle mondiale, qui échappent à une autorité linguistique centralisée.

  Le cinquante-cinquième anniversaire du premier prix Goncourt attribué à une femme remet en lumière l’œuvre littéraire d’Elsa Triolet (1896-1970), dont on sait qu’elle continue à souffrir, tout particulièrement en France, du « mythe d’Elsa » mal compris et de l’atmosphère de l’après-guerre : « Les gens trouvaient bien des qualités à ma littérature et, pour tout dire, on me courait après […] Mais au fur et à mesure que la Libération perdait ses belles couleurs, ma littérature, et moi-même, semblions perdre nos qualités » écrit-elle dans la « Préface à la clandestinité » (Œuvres romanesques croisées, t.V, p. 27). Malgré les études qui lui ont été consacrées, cette œuvre reste encore dans l’ombre et sujette à préjugés.

  Language in the Global History of Knowledge

  This workshop discusses various ways in which language and the study of language figured in the global history of knowledge, from the 16^th to the early 20^th century. In the expanding network of mercantile, missionary, and colonial relations, language was both a vessel and a barrier for the transmission of knowledge. Moreover, languages became an object of knowledge and theory-formation in themselves, in ways that diverged from how their speakers knew their language and their world. Our aim is to address the interrelations between these different kinds of knowledge. The emergence of the language sciences has to be understood both in relation to traditions of textual scholarship within different cultures, and to developments in other fields of science (broadly understood).

  Nations & Empires

  Recent research on the relationship between nations and empires have emphasized the need to rethink not only the very nature of this relationship, but also some of the standard paradigms in studies on nation-building, nationalism and the modern nation-state, from the late Middle Ages to the modern era. Scholarship on the late medieval and early modern period has drawn attention to early, avant la lettre occurrences of these phenomena, dating back as early as the 15^thcentury. Meanwhile, historians of the modern period hold that there was no clear transition from empire to nation-state: in fact, imperial and national narratives and practices often resemble each other (Judson 2006, Schenk 2013). Eventually, the concept of nation often comes entangled with notions of “race,” “religion,” “ethnicity” and “class,” as well as with other markers of collective identifications in the early modern and modern period (Berger and Lorenz 2008). The international conference “Nations and empires” aims to explore these relationships in all their conceptual and phenomenological complexity, through example from Europe, Africa, and the Americas during the early modern and modern periods.
