Journées d’étude sur la lutte contre les épidémies et la prévention en santé publique
The National Archives presented in Paris the exhibition Facing epidemics, from the Black Death to the present day from October 12, 2022 to February 6, 2023. In continuation of this, the National Archives and the Ministry of Health and Prevention are organizing two days of study to draw up an inventory of research on the fight against epidemics throughout history and the contributions of research in the humanities and social sciences to the implementation of prevention policies. A first day will be an opportunity to question the contribution of historians to the knowledge of the response of societies to major epidemics over the long term. The second day will focus on prevention policies, through debates on defining their scope and how research can enrich public health policies.

Les fonds photographiques
En précurseur du musée imaginaire de Malraux, Jacques Doucet jeta dès la fondation de la bibliothèque d’art et d’archéologie (BAA) les bases d’une vaste collection de photographies illustrant tous les domaines de l’art mondial. L’ensemble portant sur l’Extrême-Orient, complémentaire du fonds de livres et d’estampes, est exceptionnel par son ampleur comme par sa qualité, car il a été rassemblé grâce à un réseau de savants, de voyageurs et d’amateurs, dont de grands noms de l’orientalisme. Il n’a encore jamais fait l’objet d’une étude systématique. Pour mieux le connaître cette journée d’étude le comparera à des collections contemporaines de même nature, conservées en France ou à l’étranger, pour évaluer avec précision son contenu, établir ses modalités de constitution en reconstituant le réseau des « extrême-orientalistes » liés à la BAA.

Archiving Fashion Conference: Mapping Fashion Collections
Following the “Archiving Fashion Workshop” held at The American University in Paris in June 2022, The Fashion Institute of Technology-State University of New York will host an international academic conference, “Archiving Fashion: Mapping Fashion Collections,” on November 11th, 2023 in New York City. This conference will gather scholars, researchers, archivists, librarians, faculty, students, and professionals for a one-day event (with optional second day of programming for speakers) to discuss the present and future of fashion and textiles, and related material, in archives. Papers considering the impact on access to archives and libraries during the Covid-19 pandemic and the various institutional responses to it, as well as other topics, are welcome.

The Art Museum in the Digital Age
The Belvedere Research Center is continuing its conference series on the digital transformation of art museums with its fifth event on the topic. While the 2022 conference challenged binary concepts such as analog/ digital, this year’s event critically examines the imagined cultural metaverse. In four thematic online sessions and an on-site workshop, the lectures deal with the immersive experiences of virtuality and reality, cultural heritage data, value discourse surrounding the metaverse and NFTs, and self-perception and the social role of museums.

The journal Perspective : actualité en histoire de l'art will explore, in its 2024 – 1 issue, the question of autonomy in art. In addition to contributions focusing on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which seem to be the periods most concerned, the journal in this issue coordinated with Maxime Boidy (Université Gustave-Eiffel) would like specialists in the history of modern art, the Renaissance, Middle Ages, and Antiquity, to explore the prehistory of this notion, anywhere the political order, religious structures, and cultural and social dynamics have shaped or anticipated its contemporary definitions.

For this sixth thematic dossier, the online journal Design, Arts, Media is launching a call for contributions on the relationship between women and science. How to confront, reread and question the role of women at the crossroads of historiographies in science, art and design? Without reducing the roles devolved to creation and research, but on the contrary by looking at the friction, confrontations, nuances, paradoxes and demarcations between practices and knowledge, how can we think about histories together, but also their specificities? What are the new critical stakes for thinking the role of women as creators of knowledge? Particularly sensitive to the place of women in the theorization of design and media, this issue wishes to welcome contributions in visual and cultural history, sociology, philosophy, anthropology of humanities and social sciences, art, design and architecture, since the beginning of the twentieth century.

Parcours de recherches, terrains, écritures
Le principe du séminaire est de faire intervenir deux chercheur·es pour présenter leurs méthodes d’enquêtes, de terrain, d’écriture(s). Il est question ainsi de revenir sur les conditions de production des savoirs, à partir de retours d’expérience très concrets qui mettent en lumière, à chaque étape, les échafaudages du travail de recherche. Il est par ricochet proposé de montrer comment les concepts produits par nos études sur les mondes africains et les diasporas s’actualisent en fonction des reconfigurations des sociétés, comment les méthodologies doivent s’adapter en fonction des terrains et comment le fait de renouveler les approches contribue à d’autres intelligibilités.

“Civilisations” journal (vol. 72, 2023)
We are looking for contributions that explore the technical, methodological, social, political, scientific and ethical aspects arising from the use of photography in anthropological research, as well as reflections on the questions raised by the “persistence of images” (Le Gall 2014) that go beyond the contexts of academic production. This issue seeks to explore the relation between the anthropological desire to understand humankind, and the practice of photography and will feature articles focusing on the photographic process from four different angles, which may be interpreted quite broadly: 1-The anthropologist-photographer, 2-The anthropologist and photographies, 3-Photographic anthropology, 4-Anthropology in photographs.

La « communication » est enseignée à des non-spécialistes dans différentes formations de l’enseignement supérieur. À la diversité des disciplines mobilisées se superpose une diversité de statuts et d’origines disciplinaires. Et bien souvent, nombre d’enseignant·e·s, bien que chercheur·se·s (titulaires ou associé·e·s), déconnectent leurs recherches de leur enseignement. Ces constats préliminaires nous conduisent à nous interroger sur les modalités du dialogue entre enseignement et recherche que permet le cours de communication : comment ce cours se nourrit-il de la recherche en lettres, arts et sciences humaines et sociales (LASHS) ?

Ce numéro des Carnets de géographes intitulé « Temporalités des expériences de recherche en géographie » souhaite explorer la place que l’on accorde à l’expérience du temps dans la manière dont se construisent nos catégories et savoirs géographiques. Il s’inscrit dans la continuité des travaux de sciences sociales réfutant l’idée d’une extériorité du chercheur à sa recherche en plaçant la focale sur le temps de l’expérience, le temps vécu, matérialisé. Il s’agit donc de mettre en dialogue la littérature sur la production de savoirs situés et les travaux qui explorent ce que le temps de l’expérience de recherche fait à la géographie.

L’interdisciplinarité à l’épreuve des sciences transformatives
Journée d'étude de l'association « Natures sciences sociétés dialogues »
Cette journée d’étude vise à questionner les incidences du recours à des pratiques de recherche-action s’inscrivant dans la perspective des sciences transformatives, dans la mesure où elles réaffirment l’importance du lien entre sciences et sociétés. Quelles méthodes déployer pour conduire ces recherches (recherche action, recherche intervention, sciences citoyennes, …) accordant une place importante aux relations entre sciences et sociétés ? Quelle place accorder aux démarches inter, voire transdisciplinaires ? Comment évaluer les résultats des travaux et quels enjeux de pouvoir (entre disciplines, entre acteurs scientifiques et société civile) sont sous-jacents ? Ces différents aspects seront abordés à travers trois conférences plénières le matin et trois ateliers de réflexion collective l’après-midi, où chacun pourra, en s’appuyant sur ses idées et son expérience, contribuer au débat.
